Chapter Text
Buck was being lectured by Captain Gerrard, the noise from the workers sawing nearby and Gerrard saying he was a liability left the younger man angry, and hurt. It couldn't have been more of a perfect timing as Buck shoved Vincent to the floor, his head landing with a thud, a saw blade hurling past the older man, imbedding itself into the shiny bumper of the fire truck. As soon as Gerrard hit the floor he was out cold, a small concussion maybe. It was all a blur for Buck. He gasped as he watched his own actions happen, guilt rushed to his features instantly. He watched as Chimney and Hen assess the old man on the ground who was now awake and getting the situation explained to him. Buck felt Eddie come to him before he felt the man's grasp on his shoulder. "Well done Buck! You saved him." The Latino gave Buck a toothy grin. Clearly happy the grumpy captain will be gone for a day or two.
"But- I meant to hurt him Eddie-" The Hispanic cut Buck's overthinking.. or the truth to a quick halt. "Man don't even worry about it. He will love you for this" Eddie patted the slightly shorter male on the shoulder. As the ambulance with the Captain in the back slowlt puller out of the 118 station Hen and Chim looked at each other devilish almost.. "Dance off!!" They yelled in sync, as if they shared minds. The whole station began to twist and turn, jumping or doing famous Tiktok dances. Of course Buck didn't know what to do so he backed up into the loft quietly not to disturb their happy moment to ring the only person who belonged in Gerrard's current role. Bobby.
One ring is all it took for Bobby to pick the phone up to the distressed Buck. "Hey kid!" Bobby was cheerful, almost too happy off the clock, which confused the already distressed Buck, but he didn't care he needed to tell the already patient Bobby. "Hey Bobby I just hurt Gerrard-" Bobby's breathing slightly changed almost like a choke. "What?! What happened Buck?" Buck started explaining the whole situation on how he was over-stimulated. Bobby knew Buck got like that and wouldn't yell but explain calmly. But it wasn't Bobby who was here.. "Its going to be okay Buck, you saved him!" Buck breathed. "I hate to like be weird or something b-but could I come over after my shift.. I need to see you I-" Buck wanted to explain but no words came out. "Oh Buck there is no need to explain to come over to my place, 'Thena is out with May all day! Of course you can." Buck let out a breath of relief he didn't know he was holding in. "Thank you Bobby.." Bobby chuckled. "No need to thank me kid." The familiar sound of the fire alarm rang through the entire building. "Looks like you gotta go kid, be save and see you later!" Buck managed a quick bye before hanging up and running for his uniform
The call was a multi-car pile up on a busy road, so they worked in sync, Chimney filling in for Gerrard as he was injured on purpose. But its like Bobby never took time off, its like Chimney knew everyone more than Gerrard.
The rest of Buck's shift actually went by quite smoothly, quiet calls and a lot of celebrations his way from everyone, sure Buck loved the attention he was getting but it got to a point. "Do you guys think Vincent is going to come in here with a box of chocolate for our dear friend Buckaroo when he is cleared?" Everyone around the dining table laughed at Hen's suggestion at what Gerrard might bring with him as a thanks to Bucks heroism. "It wasn't that deep Hen! All I did is push the man!!" Buck was defensive over his actions he was no hero. He wanted to push him.. "Buck it IS that deep! You saved us from his torture!" Buck scoffed at Chimney before getting up and going to the locker room as end of shift was nearing.
Buck changed as quick as he could, he needed Bobby's comfort. Slipping on his civilian clothes and rushing towards his beloved Jeep and driving straight to Athena and Bobby's house. The drive wasn't that long, Buck may or may not have sped just a little bit. He needed this, he told Bobby everything and now that he couldn't just take him to his office and complain or ask things it was a lot harder on him than anyone in the station, Buck was Bobby's son. Bobby was Buck's father. End of right? But Evan couldn't imagine his world without Bobby in it. He was too dependant on the older man it could seem like Buck was a nepo baby, but it wasn't the case. They made the family not from blood but from friendship.
Buck frantically climbed out of his car not bothering to lock it and knocked on the door like he was being chased. Bobby was quick to open the door and step out of the way to allow his child to enter. It was silent at first, Bobby and Buck unsure of what to say but the awkwardness was quickly subdued by Bobby embracing the younger in his grasp for a tight hug. "Bobby you need to come back! I don't want to see Captain Gerrard after tomorrow-" Bobby chuckled. "Not yet Buck, I'm taking time for myself, that's important okay?" Buck sighed, his attempt was futile. Pointless even, it was shut down quicker then the second tower falling. "But can I still see you- Like every day?" Bobby actually stared at Buck clearly thinking about the question before nodding. "If that's what keeps you sane with my departure for a while then yes." Bobby rubbed his shoulder before taking him to the sofa and putting on some random baking show. "Tea?" Buck nodded, attention on the tv in front of him.
Bobby came back quickly with a warm brew for his son. "Careful now Buck, it is still hot." Bobby warned, Buck always listened to an extent. "Thank you d-Bobby." Buck smiled as his eyes followed Bobby across the room towards the smaller sofa. "You scared im gonna bite you now cap?" Bobby let out a laugh before getting back up and sitting by Buck. "Happy now kid?" Buck nods. "Very." The night came quicker than the pair expected, of course Buck had long since finished his tea and the mug sat on the coffee table in front of them, Evan found himself curled on the sofa, head now on his father figure's shoulder, slowly lulling in and out of sleep. "You can sleep Buck." Bobby rubbed up and down on the youngers arm as he finally closed his eyes. Bobby had moved him so he and Buck were more comfortable, Bobby laying against the arm of the sofa while Buck was practically his blanket. The sound of the door opening and closing caught the olders attention. "Bobby I'm ho-" Athenas greeting was cut short at the sight of bobby using his pointer finger to cover his mouth as his child stirred slightly at the noise. "Oh! Need anything?" She whispered. Bobby shook his head.
Athena walked over placing a kiss on Bobby's head which was returned on her cheek as she also did the same to Buck. "Guessing long day?" Athena's voice was quiet as she spoke watching her husband nod in agreement she disappeared into their bedroom, returning in pajamas (pyjamas) holding 3 blankets, Buck's weighted one for whenever he stayed over and two fluffy ones along with 2 pillows, one for her and one for Bobby. "Sleepover I guess?" She murmured as Bobby yet again nodded. "Thanks." He whispered to the cop who was now setting up where she would sleep nearby. "He got work tomorrow?" Bobby nodded. "Alarm's set. Night 'Thena." He watched her get comfortable before she replied with a simple 'night' back.
Buck was safe.... At least for now...
The two days at the station without Vincent was calming, all but the fact Athena Grant had to land a plane with the help of Bobby and him clearing a mile long runway on the 110 with a tiny bit of help from Brad Torrance -- its not like the guy did much of anything but get people to run away from the on coming plane but he fainted and wasn't much use to them any longer, Buck was glad to see Bobby after his 'retirement' from firefighting to be a Hollywood helper for the 119 show Hot shots, Buck didn't really pay much attention to the British actor other than the fact he was annoying always wanted to talk about 'Bob' and his heroic actions when Buck knew, it was more to Bobby then just being a hero.
The next week was excruciating. Gerrard was back, he didn't go talk to Bobby- or Bobby didn't talk to him, Buck wasn't sure. All he knew is that Vincent Gerrard was a pervert. His little 'pout'? Who would say that to someone Buck's age when they are as old as Gerrard, the fact he had no choice but to go golfing with the older soon sent shivers down the blonde's back, he tried to say he had plans with Eddie. Which of course Captain Gerrard got Eddie up to the loft with them and declared that Buck was his the up coming 3 day off which Eddie was confused by and messaged Buck later on with a simple 'What was that about?' Buck couldn't exactly say no, so the next day might be the worst day with his new Captain or the worst.
