Soobin entered the bakery feeling extremely sad.
It was a very calm morning when he arrived but he couldn't help the heavy feeling bubbling in his chest.
He noticed Beomgyu on one of the counters who was busy folding the batter for one of their breads. Usually he would approach him and greet him good morning but there was nothing good about that morning. He sighed as he silently walked towards their employee lounge letting out a huge sigh of sadness and misery as he stared at his phone.
No message.
He stayed cooped on one spot of the lounge, watching Beomgyu pull out the freshly baked egg tarts…
Egg tarts.
No, he can't be distracted, he needed to focus on today's work thinking that maybe that would get his mind off of things.
He decided to go to the pantry and check for their inventory and that worked.
Well it worked for a short span of time because once he was done, he immediately heard Beomgyu saying “Baby” out loud and when he looked at him, he saw him gently placing his phone on one of the baking racks and the smile he got was huge as the phone lit up. He pressed something and the next thing Soobin heard was Taehyun's voice at the other end of the line.
“Hi love,” Taehyun's voice echoed from the loudspeaker and Soobin couldn't help but sulk again because unlike Beomgyu, his phone hasn't rang yet and nobody is calling him ‘baby’. He was getting a little jealous of Beomgyu who looked so in love at almost 6 in the morning.
Soobin headed back to their employee's lounge to check his phone, maybe he messaged him, but to his disappointment, there was nothing. Only the clock on his phone showing 5:53 am blasted on his sight.
He pouted and opted to just take a nap instead of wallowing in his misery since they still have an hour before opening.
After half an hour, Soobin woke up after hearing his phone beeped and immediately checked it and to his dismay it was just some random notification.
And okay now, he was starting to worry.
He couldn't help but think and think and think if he had done something or if his boyfriend was mad at him or … What if Kai thinks he hates… Soobin couldn't even finish his thought when suddenly he was surprised with a presence that was close to his side.
“Gyu” Soobin shrieked, almost dropping his phone when he realized Beomgyu was squatting next to him.
“Hi,” he greeted cautiously, eyes fixed carefully on Soobin.
“What?” Soobin eyed him back defensively and the pair ended up having an intense judging-staring battle before Beomgyu spoke.
“There's something different about you today” Beomgyu started as he continued looking at him carefully, making Soobin gulp because it was just a few days ago that Beomgyu warned him about complaining too much and now… With the simple thought of his greatest fear coming to life, a tear fell from Soobin's eyes.
“Hey, are you okay?” Beomgyu panicked as he pulled the tissue on the desk and handed it to Soobin.
“I am? Why would you think I'm not?” he defensively answered as he wiped the tear as quick as possible
“Are you really going to deny it or should I call your boyfriend?” Beomgyu threatened him as he reached out his phone to show Soobin he meant what he just said.
“No,” Soobin panicked before curling down on himself, “don't” he sadly pouted as he wrung his hands to calm himself down.
“What even happened?” Beomgyu asked carefully as he sat in front of his friend who was clearly not okay.
“I can't say it” Soobin sighed, looking conflicted with his feelings. Beomgyu tried to wait for him to say something after that but he didn’t budge, choosing to open his phone and stare at Kai's message box.
“Did you and Kai fight today?” Beomgyu finally asked when Soobin decided to remain quiet which was highly unusual.
Soobin couldn’t even tell Beomgyu what was the reason for his mood because Beomgyu scolded him about it.
“No we did not” he whispered because that was true. They did not fight. He doesn't know what happened, why he woke up alone, why he woke up without Kai.
“You look like a sad lump all cooped up at that corner hyung" Soobin could sense that he was trying to make him laugh or even smile a little but Soobin just can't. He was sad, scared, and worried.
“Well, I guess it's a good thing I was in charge of baking the morning batch today” Beomgyu joked as he tried to change the topic for a little.
“Huh?” the said sad lump answered, looking at Beomgyu confusingly before huffing out a very sad huff.
“I said,” Beomgyu spoke louder this time, “It’s a good thing I was in charge of baking the morning batch” he scooted closer thinking that maybe his presence will lift up his friends' mood.
“Why is it a good thing?” Soobin asked before letting out a long and dramatic sigh.
“Because Soobin hyung,” Beomgyu raised his pointing finger, “our breads and tarts would taste like sadness and tears if you’d be the one in charge of baking today.
Soobin pouted at his remark, returning to his sad curl position as he pulled out his phone to look at the prettiest face he has ever laid his eyes on.
His boyfriend Kai.
His boyfriend who…
“The eggtarts would taste bad" Soobin mumbled to himself. If the egg tarts taste bad, Kai won't enjoy it. Kai..” Soobin couldn’t even finish his statement because the mere thought of Kai not enjoying his favorite treat because of Soobin made his heart break.
“Why does it look like you did not get your daily dose of kisses from Kai?” Beomgyu finally let out what he was thinking but when he noticed Soobin's devastated look, he stopped.
“Hey, I was joking…” Beomgyu held his shoulder and began shaking him to pull him off of his thoughts for the nth time since their conversation started.
“You were right" Soobin began to talk and his voice sounded so sad and miserable. “You told me not to complain and now look at what happened.” Soobin's emotions and thoughts flowed out on their own the same time his tears did.
“Did Kai…” Beomgyu began to worry even further with Soobin's random outburst and now that he heard his last statement, his actions this morning started to make sense.
“He didn't give me morning kisses” Soobin didn't let him finish as he blurted out his concern that started when he woke up this morning.
Beomgyu gasped and Soobin sulked even more as he remembered Beomgyu warning him that he shouldn't complain about getting smothered with kisses but he still did.
And yes he was now admitting to himself that Beomgyu was right. He shouldn't complain, even in a joking manner, about getting showered with love and kisses because look at him wilting in misery because he didn't get a good morning kiss (kisses) from his boyfriend.
“Don’t complain when Kai stopped doing it”
Beomgyu's words echoed through his mind and right now he was deeply regretting it.
It happened yesterday.
Soobin came to work all giggly because Kai spent almost an entire hour kissing him when they woke up and another 30 minutes kissing him after they ate breakfast and the only thing that stopped him was he needed to leave for his class.
It was their usual morning routine and if you would ask Soobin, he couldn't think of a better way to spend the entire morning other than getting plenty of kisses from his boyfriend.
Soobin wanted to act cool and pretend he didn't like it even if his blush and the huge smile on his face said otherwise.
“How was your morning?” Beomgyu greeted him as he wiggled his eyebrows in a teasing manner.
“It was fine,” Soobin answered, trying to hide his smile because he could still feel Kai's kisses on his cheeks.
“I'm sure you got showered with kisses again, don't even deny it, it’s written all over your face “ Beomgyu teased a little fully knowing how affectionate Soobin and his boyfriend are with each other.
“Shut up” Soobin yawned, still shaking the sleepiness and giddiness from his morning routine but the smile on his face won't stop appearing as he recalled waking up to Kai peppering kisses on his neck.
“You look sleepy.” Beomgyu continued his usual teasing commentaries “It seemed like you didn't get enough sleep because of the overflowing love Kai has for you” Beomgyu sing-songed as he removed the apron he was wearing.
“No, what are you talking about? I woke up because of that” Soobin tried his best to sound like he was annoyed with the entire situation even if it was far from the truth.
“Are you complaining that your boyfriend loves you so much?” Beomgyu raised his left eyebrow, judging Soobin whom he witnessed how whipped for his boyfriend even before they started dating.
“No,” Soobin shouted defensively, “I'm not, I would never. It's just that maybe I could have slept a few minutes more or something” he slowly spoke the words, contemplating if they were the right words to say, feeling a small pang of guilt for even saying them.
“This is the 3rd time you complained this week hyung, now don’t complain when Kai stopped doing it” Beomgyu warned him and Soobin felt confident that that wouldn't happen.
Well, that confidence disappeared in less than 24 hours and Soobin wanted the land to swallow him whole for taking advantage of the love his boyfriend has been giving him.
“Gyu, you were right" Soobin's lips wobbled as he tried to stop himself from crying again. “Why did I complain that my boyfriend wakes me up with kisses? Why did I pretend that I didn't like it when it was the best part of my morning?” Soobin wanted to turn back time so he could stop himself from pretending to complain about receiving love because it has only been an hour since he didn't get any kisses and he felt like dying.
Soobin wanted the ground to crack open and swallow him whole and never spit him out because he felt like he didn't appreciate the love that his boyfriend gave him.
“I really shouldn't have complained about it” Soobin mumbled regretfully hoping he could turn back time so he could stop himself from saying words he doesn't fully mean. “What if..” Soobin gulped, “what if Kai found out how I'm complaining about waking up because of his kisses? What if he starts thinking that I don't love him enough that's why I'm saying those things. What if..”
“Hyung,” Beomgyu called and shook his shoulders to stop him from continuing what he wanted to say. “Kai doesn't think that. He would never think that and I’m sure he loves you just as much as you love him” Beomgyu reassured him and Soobin knew he was correct since Beomgyu has always been a witness in his and Kai's relationship.
“I know but it's just. Why did I even say those things Gyu? I shouldn't have done that. Now I think the universe is teaching me a lesson. I can't find my boyfriend, he's not answering my messages and what if he found out I’m pretending to complain? What if he thought I don’t love him anymore, what if..” Soobin knew he was spouting random things and he silently hoped that he would still have his boyfriend by the end of the day but the guilt was eating him alive and he badly needed kisses from Kai to reassure him.
“Hyung,” Beomgyu offered a comforting smile “I'm sure Kai has his reasons, he won't forget to kiss you good morning and leave without leaving a note or a message just like that” he squeezed Soobin's shoulder to calm him even just a little. “Kai loves you so much I'm sure if he heard you “complaining” about getting kisses, he would simply laugh it off and shower you with more kisses to ”annoy” you further” Beomgyu reminded him and Soobin realized he was right. Kai would simply bicker a little but he won't definitely think Soobin actually thinks like that.
“Thanks Gyu,” Soobin felt slightly better thanks to Beomgyu's reassurance.
They heard a beeping sound after some time of sitting in silence and Beomgyu excused himself to check the oven.
Soobin stayed on his spot and pulled out his phone again, checking if Kai already replied to his messages.
“Good morning baby, where are you?”
“I'm heading to work, I left some egg sandwich for you to eat for breakfast”
Soobin sighed but he tried to smile as he typed a new message for Kai.
“Is everything okay? Please message me when you read my messages. I'm getting worried baby"
“Did I do something for him to leave so early in the morning with no note and no…” The thoughts started again but he immediately cut them off. After what happened yesterday, Soobin note to himself was “always listen to Beomgyu, even if he’s questionable sometimes”
He sighed as he put his phone down, pushing away the thoughts clouding on his mind right at that moment because he knew his boyfriend and Beomgyu was right. Kai probably had a reason for not leaving a note and replying to his messages.
It was Kai, he won't do anything that would make Soobin worry intentionally.
His boyfriend who was always so caring and loving won't just leave him alone like that with no explanation.
Kai who was always ready to shower him with so much love and care that sometimes Soobin questions what he did to deserve all these.
As he began to miss him even more, Soobin couldn't help to remember the first time Kai started showering him with kisses first thing in the morning
The first time it happened, Soobin was over the moon.
It was a few days after they became a couple.
It was the first time Kai stayed in his room after having a marathon of Jujutsu Kaizen. Soobin felt nervous at first when Kai asked if he could stay in Soobin's room, his heart beat fast when Kai hid under the covers, only his eyes were peaking and Soobin almost melted from how adorable he looked waiting for him to join him in his bed. Once under the covers with him, Kai pulled him closer and laid on his chest as Soobin slowly hugged him tight as they slowly dozed off.
He slept peacefully that night, having Kai's breathing close to his heart and completely engulfed in his embrace made Soobin sigh, he couldn't ask for more.
Well, he was wrong. Waking up next to Kai was a whole new level of happiness and he would wish for it to happen everyday of his life.
It was amazing, opening his eyes and seeing Kai sleeping next to him. At some point in the morning he must have dozed off again after watching Kai and feeling his warmth against him.
After a few more minutes of resting he woke up again and was surprised that Kai was already awake and was looking at him as if he was something precious.
“Good morning,” Kai greeted before flashing a huge smile that could beat how bright the sun was shining outside.
“Hi,” Soobin couldn't help but grin widely. Waking up next to Kai was something he always dreamed of and now that he was experiencing it felt like he was floating and he never wanted to touch the ground again.
Kai scooted closer and Soobin badly wanted to close the gap. Kai must have found him weird for staring but to his surprise, Kai was the one who closed the gap between them.
He pressed a small kiss on the side of Soobin's mouth, making Soobin smile so wide.
“One more please” Soobin pleaded and Kai giggled before complying to his request. He leaned forward again and kissed Soobin's nose.
“One more please” Soobin asked again, giving Kai the cutest dimpled-smile he could muster even doing it fully knowing that Kai would give him anything he wanted and he was correct because without waiting, Kai was already pressing a kiss on his forehead.
“One more please” Soobin blinked his eyes repeatedly before closing his eyes and pursed his lips and Kai giggled before kissing his right cheek then his left cheek.
Soobin whined before scooting closer and asking “one more please” again then pouting his lips exaggeratedly and finally Kai gave in.
It started with a small peck. It was light at first, small pecks repeatedly at the side of his lips and suddenly Kai was kissing him fully and Soobin pulled him even closer.
They kept kissing and kissing until they heard Kai's stomach grumbling, making them both laugh. Soobin stood up after that pulling Kai with him to head to their kitchen so he could make him breakfast.
The alarm at the counter started ringing, a sign that the bakery would open in 15 minutes. Beomgyu patted his head to comfort him one last time before proceeding to the bread rack to place the price on each bread. Soobin stood up sadly after him so that he could make some coffee for him and for Beomgyu when he accidentally hit his hips on the corner of the desk in their lounge. He grunted in pain and couldn't help the tear from slipping out of his eyes.
He wanted to focus at work but sadly, the pain on his hips reminded him of what happened last friday.
Soobin woke up feeling extremely excited. It was Friday, which was Soobin's favorite day.
Not to be dramatic, but Friday was his favorite day because he get to spend the entire day with Kai as he didn't have any classes and it was Soobin's day off. They don't usually leave their apartment and would spend the entire day glued to each other cuddling, kissing, and hugging mostly in their bed and maybe doing some household chores… together.
When he opened his eyes that morning, Kai was hugging him loosely in his sleep. Soobin's initial instinct upon seeing his boyfriend's sleeping face is to give him a small kiss on his forehead which he did. Kai roused up from his sleep after feeling Soobin's gesture and smiled at him before hiding his face on the crook of Soobin's neck.
“Good morning hyung,” he greeted shyly before pressing a kiss on Soobin's Adam's apple, making both of them giggle.
“Good morning baby,” he greeted back as his giggle turned into complete laughter as Kai didn't stop kissing his neck, completely tickling him.
“It’s a very good morning” Kai whispered on his neck, his warm breath doing things to Soobin. “a good morning because” another kiss to his jaw “we get to spend” a kiss to the side of his lips “the entire day together.” a whisper before he slotted their lips together.
The kiss continued even if Soobin was giggling and he was feeling giddy, the kiss(es) energized him for the rest of the day.
If you would ask Soobin, getting showered by kisses from Kai gave him enough boost to do almost all of their chores. He would cook, wash the dishes, vacuum the floor, do the laundry and he would only make Kai help by asking him to sort their games. Kai was his baby after all so no chores for him, he would simply sit and tell Soobin stories as he do chores and Soobin would feel happy just hearing him talk.
As the day went by and Soobin continued with his errands, Kai was napping on the couch who originally wanted to help Soobin vacuum the floor but Soobin insisted that he would do it as it was the last chore for the day. Noticing that his lovely boyfriend was resting, Soobin couldn’t help to stop at what he was doing and approach him so he could coo and watch him for a while but as he was distracted by Kai's sleeping face, he accidentally hit the corner of the lamp desk making him stumble forward, his knee hitting the floor a little too hard, his grunt waking up Kai.
“Hyung? Are you okay?” Kai rushed to his side immediately after noticing Soobin’s teary eyes.
Soobin was doing his best to hide the pain but he was sure he was failing especially when he came face to face with Kai who stooped down so he could look at his face, he began crying. Kai immediately pulled him into a hug and when he finally stopped crying, Kai moved back and held his face to check if he got any bruises or injury on his face. When he was sure that nothing happened with Soobin and his pretty face, Kai stood up and asked for Soobin’s hand so that he could help him stand up.
“Lay here” Kai instructed as he tugged Soobin towards their couch and Soobin followed immediately.
Kai sat at the floor, slowly assessing how badly Soobin got hurt, pressing every part of his body gently, from his shoulders to the side of his stomach up to his ankles, noting down which body part Soobin winced. When he was done with his assessment, Soobin was surprised when Kai leaned forward and kissed his knees then his hips.
“Does it still hurt?” he asked as he looked at Soobin earnestly, hoping that what he did would ease the pain and he laughed as he noticed that that kiss might have broken Soobin.
“Hyung,” he called before shaking Soobin's shoulder, leaning closer to check if Soobin got hurt somewhere else. Maybe hurting his face or his brain from how he was malfunctioning because of what Kai did.
“Hmm?” Soobin breathily answered, still caught off guard and trying his best to process what happened.
“Does it still hurt?” Kai asked again and Soobin was falling again over how he was smiling at him like how can anyone smile so gently like that, how can anyone look so pretty just by smiling like that?
“Yes” Soobin almost shouted, wanting to feel Kai's lips over his hurt hip again and Kai didn't give him time to wait as he was already leaning down to press another kiss on his injured hip.
After kissing his hips, Kai looked at Soobin's blushing face before pressing a kiss on Soobin's cheek. “That's for doing your best today” Kai whispered before looking intently at Soobin's hand and pouting. He slowly held Soobin's hand before lifting it close to his lips and pressing kisses over his fingers one by one and whispering “this is for doing the laundry, this is for doing the dishes, this is for cooking for me, this is for cleaning our room, this is for arranging my books and…”
“This is for loving me” he whispered before pecking Soobin on the lips.
Soobin gulped before pulling Kai again to kiss him deeper.
Soobin sat there enduring the pain but now he wasn’t just in pain, he was also yearning for the kisses he received last Friday.
“Soobin, could you come here and lend a hand first?” he heard his manager call and now he was forced to endure the pain and sadness that was eating him alive. He convinced himself and repeated what Beomgyu reassured him earlier to forget even a little.
Work started quickly after that, Soobin decided to carry on with his day, ignoring the sadness that was currently weighing down on his chest. He welcomed customers with a forced smile on his face. He tried to take and serve orders like he usually would but it often led to disaster. He took 4 wrong orders, brought the wrong drinks to the wrong person, he accidentally spilled 2 drinks, and almost burned his hand picking up a fresh batch of pastries straight from the oven without using a potholder.
The day just started and it was already disastrous. Soobin wanted his work to be a distraction to his emotional turmoil and he was failing. Failing extremely bad. He can now imagine how his manager would scold him when he finds out how many mistakes he made just like what happened a few months ago.
It happened 2 months ago. Soobin went home feeling extremely down after a disastrous shift.
“Hyung, is that you?” Kai happily greeted from the kitchen and Soobin could smell he was preparing their dinner already as the scent of kimchi jjigae enveloped their apartment.
“Hi baby,” Soobin sighed as he approached Kai, hands finding their way towards his waist until he was fully back hugging him.
“Hi hyung,” Kai happily greeted back before slowly turning around so he could face Soobin and hug him back.
They both remained quiet in each other's arms and without knowing Soobin was already crying.
“Hyung?” Kai moved back a little and lifted his chin to have a better look on his face and when he realized Soobin was crying he quickly cupped his face and wiped his eyes. “I'm here, you're okay.” Kai smiled gently, urging Soobin to look at him. “It was a bad day but you're already in our home, no one can fight or hurt you here” Kai kissed his forehead after saying those words and Soobin pulled him closer so he could hug him tighter. He felt Kai pressing light kisses on the crown of his hair and Soobin was already melting on the spot. Kai's kisses grounding him as always.
Kai giving him reassurance would always be Soobin's safety blanket but right now Soobin feels distracted and anxious because he still hasn't heard from Kai.
And now as he started to miss Kai even more, it felt like he was back at the beginning. The thought reminded him of how everything went down for him.
Soobin's sour mood completely enveloped the bakery.
He started to feel everything all at once.
How his morning didn’t start well.
How he woke up later than usual, he didn’t get to eat breakfast with his loving boyfriend, he almost missed his bus, and he misses his boyfriend entirely.. and maybe.. he misses his kisses very much.
Waking up with no kisses from him was like getting slapped in the face early in the morning ( and no he was not being dramatic about this)
The guilt of complaining was eating him alive and he started to hate himself for even pretending to hate that special part of their morning routine and add the fact that he was getting extremely worried because Kai still hadn't messaged him.
Maybe Kai didn't want to kiss him good morning because he was whining about it.
And he knew there were times where he complained but he didn't mean it. He always loved receiving kisses from Kai. Kisses from him would always boost his mood 10 fold. He shouldn't have said those words, he shouldn't have complained. Now the universe was teaching him a lesson. He wished that Kai would forgive him.
Okay and maybe he began spiraling but it was too much, this is the first time since they started dating that he didn't get peppered with kisses by Kai and Soobin have no idea where he was and the thought was messing him up.
“Soobin, can I talk to you for a minute?” his manager suddenly called, alarming Soobin because he was 100% sure he messed up. Why does he keep on messing things up? he mumbled to himself before nervously knocking on his office, he knew he was in trouble and he didn't have any explanation aside from missing Kai which he knew was none of his manager and the bakery's business.
“Soobin, is everything okay?” His manager asked as he entered.
“I’m sorry,” Soobin apologized as fast as he could. He knew he should focus at work and that he shouldn’t bring personal matters here but he was so out of it, he couldn’t even think properly which was so unlike him.
“Do you need a break?” his manager asked which caught him off-guard. He was anticipating he would get scolded but it didn’t happen yet.
Soobin nodded slowly in response, he felt bad but he knew that he needed to find a way to make himself focus at work.
Everything went blurred after that. He was banned from entering the kitchen, the counter, and the serving area and was immediately ushered towards the employee lounge.
During his break, Soobin pulled out his phone again and there was still no response from Kai.
“Baby? :( “ he messaged again before setting his phone on silent and flipping it so he won't anticipate and dread if he won't receive any message back.
He curled on the corner once again and began to wonder when and why he started to pretend to complain that he didn't enjoy Kai's affection.
None of their friends teased him about it. No one called them out for being too much in their expression of affection. No one even acknowledges how attached they are to the hip.
Then he remembered what happened on his last birthday.
During his birthday, Kai couldn’t stop kissing him. When they’re alone or even in front of all of their friends the kisses keep on pouring.
It started with their usual cuddling session with a dash of good morning kisses. Then Kai prepared his birthday breakfast which consisted of his favorite things: freshly baked bread, tteokbokki, egg sandwich and more kisses from his boyfriend.
Then the day kept getting better and better. Their friends came over to celebrate, they hung out while playing games, eating and opening Soobin's birthday presents in which Kai gave him a small gengar plushie which he cherished so badly.
When the day ended, Soobin felt complete and happy but what came after those feelings were anxiousness.
He was always like that, dreading feeling too happy and too content because what if the universe decided to take it all back one day?
“Hyung? Is everything okay?” Kai asked the moment he stepped out of the shower before settling beside Soobin, probably noticing his inner turmoil.
“I feel happy” Soobin smiled, hoping that it would hide his worries.
“You feel happy but?” Kai answered after settling comfortably beside Soobin and laying his chin on his chest.
Soobin looked at him and he was so in love and so so scared but he can't lie at Kai so he let his fears and worries spill out one by one
“What if my happiness won't last long?”
“What if the day comes that I won't get to hold you like this?”
“What if you get tired of kissing me everyday?”
It was his own fears eating him up, the ‘what ifs’ that at some point things might change.
Kai patiently waited for him to finish his thoughts and once he was done, he kissed the part of Soobin's chest just above the heart.
“If this happiness of ours is temporary, then I'd make sure there's some form of renewal of contract because there's no way I'd ever let go of you hyung after knowing how it feels to hug you, to kiss you and.. “ a small pause “to love you”. Kai said those words so lovingly that it made Soobin tear up.
“I love you,” he cupped Kai's face to kiss the bridge of his nose, “I'll never get tired of kissing you”
“I’ll make sure I won't get tired of giving them to you because I know you'll never get tired of receiving them” Kai confidently stated as he nuzzled Soobin's neck and Soobin hummed in agreement.
Soobin has always believed him but maybe somewhere along the way, Soobin unconsciously sabotaged his own happiness and now he was deeply regretting it. Now everything felt like they're crumbling down. Or maybe he was just giving an excuse for the universe to forget about his complaints so he could get his morning kisses from his boyfriend again. He wasn't sure anymore; he was sure he wasn't making any sense anymore, that his thoughts were just going in circles and that he was fully spiraling now and the only thing he wanted was his boyfriend back.
It was 15 minutes since Soobin was allowed to have a break when Beomgyu checked on him and noticed that he was already asleep.
Beomgyu felt bad for him because he could clearly see how Soobin's thoughts has been eating him alive the entire morning.
Their manager allowed him to take a break for an hour, maybe to nap or gather himself, with the promise that after that break, he needed to give his 100% for the lunch rush.
Beomgyu sighed as he returned to the counter, contemplating and was so close to calling Kai if nothing changes when Soobin wakes up when suddenly the doors to the cafe opened and Beomgyu felt an angel just entered because the answer to his day's misery (it was 2 hours but it felt like a whole day okay?) was here.
Kai just entered the cafe with a huge box on his arms and even if he looked sweaty, Beomgyu still thinks an angel has entered the cafe to save the day.
“Hi Beomgyu hyung,” he greeted happily as he scanned the counter, then the cafe as if he was looking for somebody and Beomgyu he was looking for the sad sack that was his boyfriend.
“Kai” Beomgyu felt like crying, Soobin sulking was bad for him and their job, especially lunch rush coming soon and finally the answer to their prayers was now here.
“Where's Soobin hyung?” Kai flashed his signature smile and if Beomgyu wasn't taken, he would definitely fall for that. Soobin was so so valid for falling for him.
“Kai, I'm so glad you're here” he dramatically announced as he walked out of the counter to welcome Kai with a huge hug.
“Why? Did something happen?” Kai asked worriedly, eyes trailing around the cafe probably looking for his boyfriend who was still out of sight.
“Your boyfriend, he's like this sad sack of nothingness, we can't make him work” Beomgyu whined, finally feeling relieved that he finally ranted his concerns with someone.
“What do you mean hyung?” Kai asked, frowning, as he set down the box-like figure he was holding.
“What's that?” Beomgyu got distracted, finally noticing what Kai was holding and wanting to lift the cover.
“A surprise for Bin-hyung” Kai smiled excitedly but it disappeared immediately as he began to look around and search for his boyfriend again, probably too shy to ask Beomgyu where he was again.
When Beomgyu noticed that Kai was distracted, he began dragging him carefully to where Soobin was resting on the employee's lounge.
“There he is,” he pointed and Kai had to squint his eyes to find his boyfriend that was securely tucked at the far end of their couch.
“What happened to him?” Kai hurriedly approached him and Beomgyu clearly saw how the small smile from his face disappeared and was replaced by full worry.
“We can't even talk to him properly, he was just sulking in that corner for the entire morning and when he started working, he kept on getting and giving the wrong orders. ” He whispered his concerns as he didn't want to disturb Soobin's sleeping figure. “He even almost burned his hand” Beomgyu continued and Kai gently held Soobin's hand to see if he was injured and he let out a sigh of relief when he realized his hands were fine.
“Did something happen?” Kai asked as he slowly sat beside his boyfriend's sleeping figure, cradling his cheeks slowly in the process as his other hand began to hold Soobin's hand probably to check if he got injured.
“Promise me you won't tell him I told you” Beomgyu whispered and Kai nodded, his eyes not leaving Soobin's sleeping figure.
“He came to work sad and sulking. At first he refused to tell me what happened but later on he gave in” Kai sat there, holding Soobin's pinky gently, waiting for Beomgyu to continue his story but as Beomgyu was about to continue, Kai got distracted with Soobin's sleeping face and he leaned forward and planted a kiss on his temple.
“Wow” was the only thing Beomgyu got to say before Kai realized what he did.
“Sorry hyung, I didn't mean to, there's just something in Soobin hyung's sleeping face that makes me want to kiss him again and again and again” Kai admitted, avoiding Beomgyu's gaze at him and choosing to look at Soobin once again.
“Do you do that all the time? As in all the time?” Beomgyu whispered, trying to confirm Kai's side of the story about Soobin's sour mood.
Kai nodded shyly, face extremely red, and he looked completely in love and Beomgyu wanted to squeal because of them.
“No wonder his mood was so bad today” Beomgyu nodded to himself, looking like he finally put the final piece of the puzzle.
“What do you mean hyung?” Kai looked surprised and confused at the same time.
“He told me he woke up and you're not around and thus he didn't get his morning kisses. He felt extremely bad for whining the other day that he thought this might be the universe punishing him because he was complaining about being loved” Beomgyu looked like a mom snitching her son and the revelation of Soobin's morning dilemma made Kai blush.
“Sorry I disappeared like that” Kai apologized before leaning forward and pressing a small kiss on Soobin's eye then on the bridge of his nose then on his forehead but before he could continue, he heard Beomgyu clearing his throat as he slowly backed away from the couple.
“Kai, I think I'll leave you guys now” he announced, not even finishing his story, as he gave Kai a teasing smile and slowly backed away from the couple to head out of the room and give them some privacy.
“Okay hyung” Kai couldn’t help but giggle to himself when he realized that he completely forgot that Beomgyu was still there with them because he was overwhelmed with the urge to shower his boyfriend with kisses just like how he always did.
Once he heard the door closing, he scooted even closer to press another kiss on the back of Soobin's ear then to his Adam's apple which he knew was a sensitive spot.
“Baby, I'm trying to sleep” Soobin grunted which made Kai chuckle because he expected that the kiss to his Adam's apple would definitely wake him up and he was right, he would always feel this sense of pride whenever he gets things right when it comes to his boyfriend.
“Sorry hyung, I couldn't help it” Kai teased a little before pressing another kiss on the side of Soobin's lips.
“Baby??” Soobin sat down as fast as he could and he now sounded alert and awake and the way his eyes were blown wide like he had seen a ghost or something.
“Hi,” Kai smiled before cupping Soobin's cheeks and pressing a light kiss on it.
“You're here,” Soobin whispered as he gently lifted his hands so he could cup Kai's face to check if he was real and he wasn't dreaming.
“I'm here,” Kai smiled before leaning towards Soobin's right hand and pressing a kiss on his palm. Soobin squished his cheeks probably to check again if everything was real and when he was sure, he gave Kai a small peck on his nose.
“Where did you go earlier today?” He pouted “I got worried” he admitted and Kai felt bad hearing the sadness from his tone.
“Sorry hyung, will you let me explain?” Kai smiled apologetically before kissing his knuckles.
“Of course baby” Soobin answered as fast as he could, still feeling the tingling sensation from his hands where Kai kept on kissing him.
“Can you wait for us to get home before I answer that?” Kai requested and Soobin was always weak for his eyes.
“Can you give me a kiss?” Soobin pleaded in exchange for agreeing, and who was Kai to deny his request when Soobin looked so cute and…. and so he did.
He first kissed Soobin's cheeks, then his eyes, then his nose, then the opposite cheek, then the opposite eye and when he moved back a little Soobin was already pouting waiting for his lips to be kissed and when Kai pretended he won’t do it, Soobin pulled him so Kai would lay on top of him on the couch. Kai laughed and giggled as he continued to kiss every single part of Soobin’s face. Soobin doesn’t even know how long they were kissing and Soobin couldn’t be any happier but there was something he wanted to take out of his chest.
“Kai, baby?” Soobin called as he hid his face from Kai’s neck feeling extremely comfortable against his warmth.
“Hmm?” Kai hummed as he pressed another kiss on Soobin’s forehead.
“Baby, please don't do that again” Soobin mumbled, wanting to be honest about what caused his anxiety that morning.
“Don't do what?” Kai moved back a little so he could hold Soobin’s cheeks.
“Leave our home without messaging me and not giving me my good morning kisses” Soobin sighed as the words started to flow out.
“It must have scared you hyung,” Kai’s smile disappeared and Soobin could see how he felt bad about what happened. “I’m really sorry, I promise that won’t happen again.” he continued as he rub soothing circles on Soobin’s cheek.
“Thank you,” Soobin kissed his frown this time because what mattered for him right now was that Kai was already here, in his arms again.
“If it could make things feel a little bit better hyung, I did kiss you on your forehead before I left” Kai reasoned teasingly making Soobin look at him, completely endeared and thankful that Kai didn’t take any of this the wrong way.
“I was asleep, I didn't feel it” he whined and Kai giggled before pulling Soobin closer to him and hugging him tight.
“I promise I won't do it again and I’ll make sure that you would receive your daily dose of kisses from me” Kai promised as he started to kiss Soobin’s face again.
As they continued to kiss, Soobin realized that all his worries didn't really make any sense and it was just his guilt eating him alive for being careless with the words he let out in the universe. He gripped Kai's shirt tighter as he pulled him even closer, repeating in his head that he would never complain ever again and would always be thankful that Kai was always there, always ready to give him love and adoration.
After getting his daily dose of morning kisses, Soobin was able to pay attention to his work again.
Kai stayed for a while when his shift started again, he watched for a while as he finished his coffee, smiling every now and then whenever they would make eye-contact and that was enough to fuel Soobin's energy for the day. After some time, Kai went home with a promise that he would pick Soobin up after his shift ends.
And just as he promised, Kai came back to the cafe 30 minutes before Soobin's shift ended, looking fresh and even more handsome. Soobin felt giddy like he just got a new crush even if Kai was his crush for god knows how long already.
They left the cafe as soon as his shift ended and went straight home. Kai held Soobin's hand securely, stealing glances from time to time.
“Baby, why did you leave early today?” Soobin asked as they were heading up to their apartment. He looked shy as he held Kai's hand tightly.
“I got a small surprise for you” Kai admitted and Soobin could clearly see how nervous he was, thus he squeezed his hand and gave it a light kiss.
“You don't have to be nervous, it's just me” Soobin smiled softly at him, being as gentle as always with him.
“Okay,” Kai nodded as he gripped Soobin's hand tighter. “So, inside this door is the reason why I left early today"
When they entered their apartment, Kai kissed Soobin's hand before they heard a rustling sound from the living room followed by a shriek from Yeonjun who sounded completely distressed. They heard more rustling sound before they heard Yeonjun shouting “Tori” then a dog suddenly appeared and came rushing towards Soobin and Kai.
“I went out early today to get him,” Kai smiled as he picked up the small puppy to show him to Soobin.
“You got us a dog?” Soobin was close to tears when he realized what was going on.
“Yes” Kai couldn’t contain his laugh as the cute little puppy started kissing him on his cheeks.
“Not just any dog, it's the dog I've been playing with for almost a month now at the adoption center” Soobin happily shouted and pulled both Kai and Tori in his arms so he could hug them.
“Yeah, I received a message from the adoption center that someone was planning to adopt him. That's why I rushed there to get to him first because I know you'll get heartbroken if we lose him” Kai explained as he moved a step back to hand Tori to Soobin. “It was the reason why I was in a rush to leave early that I even forgot to charge my phone. I'm really sorry for scaring you like that” Kai continued and before kissing Soobin on the cheek and Soobin wanted to melt on the spot. It felt like he was being slapped repeatedly with the emotions and feelings he was feeling about Kai.
“I love you so much, I'd do anything to keep our love like this forever” Soobin couldn’t help but say it, making Kai blush.
Soobin was about to lean forward and kiss Kai again with Tori between them when they heard Soobin’s phone beeping repeatedly and when he opened it, it was from Beomgyu.

Soobin was shocked that Beomgyu finally knew when another message from Beomgyu. He sent him a photo of him and Kai holding their new baby as they stood in the middle of their living room… which was right now. Soobin panicked a little when he and Kai heard a loud cackle from their kitchen.
“Yeonjun hyung” Kai shouted as his laughter scared him a little.
“I’m glad you guys finally remembered that I’m still here” Yeonjun laughed as he sprouted out of the kitchen bar like a cute little mushroom. “And guys I’m glad that I get to be Tori’s godfather, but I really need to go now because I still have my dance rehearsals in less than half an hour.” Yeonjun announced as he made kissy faces for Tori before walking backwards towards the door “I’m sure your baby wants some treats too, isn’t that right Tori? Make sure you give him some okay?” Yeonjun continued talking to Tori in his baby tone voice and Soobin couldn’t stop smiling as he reached for Kai’s hand again, feeling so happy and so in love.
“Okay hyung. Thank you so much for all the help today, we’ll treat you to dinner when you’re not busy” Kai waved as Yeonjun shot them some flying kisses before closing the door.
Kai pulled him to the kitchen and happily showed him Tori’s treats and food and his new toys and Soobin was so in love.
“Thank you for being my home” he interrupted Kai mid-speech and he could clearly see that Kai felt the same way.
“I love you, my home” Kai answered before kissing him again and Soobin was thankful that he got to feel Kai’s love like this every single day.
