Work Text:

Jimin sighed as he looked out the window for the umpteenth time that day. Each time he looked outside he hoped to catch a glimpse of clouds in the sky with the promise of snow, but sadly he was disappointed each and every time. He knew the chances of snow falling were slim, the weather channels had said it fell below one percent for the whole week, but Jimin couldn’t help but hope for a Christmas miracle. He’d been praying all week for snow, but unfortunately, his prayers had not been answered. It was already Christmas eve and night time at that, and still, there was not a drop of snow to be seen anywhere in the city of Seoul. Seeing this, Jimin’s spirits dropped realizing the possibility of snow actually falling tomorrow on Christmas morning were pretty much slim to none. Apparently, this year would be the first time Jimin wouldn’t experience a white Christmas.

“Hyung! Can you come help me with the Christmas cake?” a loud voice from the kitchen boomed.

“Coming! Wait a second!” Jimin replied as he sent one more wistful look at the window and then padded his way into the kitchen to help his boyfriend.

“What do you need help with Kookie?” Jimin asked as he entered the kitchen and walked towards Jungkook who had his back to him.

“Decorating! Which colors do you want to use for frosting?” Jungkook asked as he sent Jimin a cheerful grin, bunny teeth on full display.

“Hmm...whatever colors you want are fine with me,” Jimin answered as he looked at the vanilla cake with chocolate swirls mixed in. They had both worked hard to make the cake as perfect as possible and Jimin had to say they did a rather nice job. The cake looked delicious and was pretty much finished except for the frosting. Jimin looked around the kitchen to see what a mess they’d made. There was flour all over the countertops, sugar sprinkled around the mixing bowls which were still covered in batter. Thankfully, they’d managed to keep the batter contained to just the bowls.

“Aw come on hyung, please help me decide? I don’t know whether I should pick traditional colors like red and green or be a little creative and use yellow and orange...hmm...oh what about blue? Wouldn’t blue be a nice color?” Jungkook asked as he examined the different frosting colors they had brought earlier that day.

“I honestly think whatever you use will look nice...but if you really can’t decide...maybe use all the colors?” Jimin suggested with a thoughtful expression before he shrugged and picked up the mixing bowls to bring over to the sink.

“I don’t think I can use all of them,” Jungkook replied with a pout, looking seriously troubled.

“Jungkook, you are an amazing artist so I know you already have a design in your head that you want to use, and I’m ninety percent sure you also know what colors you really want to use as well. So don’t worry about what others think, and just go for it” Jimin said as he began washing the bowls.

“Well. I do have an idea of what I want to do, but…” Jungkook trailed off eyeing the cake wearily.

“Just go for it Kookie. I trust in your abilities. Whatever you have planned is bound to be great” Jimin assured as he continued to do the dishes.

“Fine. But I’ll help you clean up first, hyung.” Jungkook offered as he reached for a towel to dry the dishes.

“It’s fine. I got it, just finish the cake.” Jimin responded as he finished the dishes and started on the countertops.

“You sure?” Jungkook asked placing the towel back down.

“Yep!” Jimin replied with a smile and so Jungkook went back to decorating the cake while Jimin finished cleaning the kitchen. Once they were both finished they cuddled up on the sofa in the living room. The TV was running a marathon of Christmas movies, and the one playing at the moment was a romantic comedy. Jimin enjoyed the movie but couldn’t help glancing at the window every few minutes. He thought he was being discreet, but of course, Jungkook noticed it.

“I really don’t think glancing out the window with a pout will make it snow hyung.” Jungkook murmured as he snuggled closer, wrapping his right arm around the elder who sighed.

“I know. I just really wish it would snow already.” Jimin murmured back sinking into the younger with a small smile.

“Regret not being able to go to Busan this year?” Jungkook asked.

“Hmm...a little, but it can’t be helped,” Jimin answered after a few seconds as he turned his attention back to the movie playing on the TV.

“Yeah...how is your dad? Have you heard from him since yesterday?” Jungkook asked as he began tracing random patterns along Jimin’s right arm.

“He’s getting much better thankfully, but the doctor still says he shouldn’t move around much or have guests over,” Jimin replied absentmindedly as he tried to focus on the movie but found he had lost all interest in it. His thoughts wandered to his father who had just been released from the hospital about three days ago and was now at home taking it easy. His father had a heart attack about a week ago and it had been a serious event. Jimin was supposed to go home for the holidays like he usually did, but he’d gotten a call the day before he planned to leave to be told the terrible news. His mother had advised he stay in Seoul for the holidays this year since his father needed to keep visitors to a minimum, even if they were family. The doctors had only let his mom stay with his father and had forbidden all other visitors. She told Jimin that she’d call him to update him on his father’s condition and also to let him know when he could come home. So far it didn’t seem like that would be anytime soon, and while Jimin worried about, and wanted to be there for his father, it was simply better if he didn’t go.

“Well, at least he’s getting better,” Jungkook said with a hum. They were silent for a few seconds before Jungkook leaned over and pressed a kiss to Jimin’s cheek.

“Don’t worry hyung. Your dad is a fighter, he’ll be fine in no time.” Jungkook said with conviction.

“I know...he’s already doing much better according to my mom. But she wants to wait another week before letting me come down to see him.” Jimin murmured as he faced his boyfriend of about seven months.

“We’ll go the moment she gives the ok signal,” Jungkook said pressing another kiss to Jimin’s other cheek.

“Ok.” was all Jimin said as he kissed Jungkook on the lips in return. They melted into each other’s touch and enjoyed the warmth spreading between them. As they kissed Jimin couldn’t help but think about how much had changed between them over the year. To begin with they’d finally started dating after two years of knowing each other. They had met on Jungkook’s first day of college and then grew to be close friends. More than halfway through his junior year and Jungkook’s sophomore year, Jimin had confessed and then they started dating. Once summer break ended and they returned from Busan for Jimin’s senior and Jungkook’s junior year, they decided to rent an apartment near campus and move in together rather than live separately on campus.

The first few weeks of living together had been a challenge. They had to adapt to each other’s habits and routines, there had been more than a few fights and Jimin had almost been sure they’d break up. It never happened, though, they’d adapted and learned to live together peacefully. Of course there were still a few fights here and there, but for the most part, they were content living together, enjoyed it even. Jimin knew he loved Jungkook more than he’d ever loved anyone else. He enjoyed being with the younger and waking up next to him, he looked forward to it and even hoped he’d be able to wake up with Jungkook beside him for the rest of his life. They both pulled away from each other after a while to catch their breaths. After a few moments, Jimin’s thoughts wandered away from their relationship and went back to the fact it still wasn’t snowing.

“What are you thinking about hyung?” Jungkook asked after a few seconds.

“Hmm...about the fact it really probably won’t snow tomorrow,” Jimin answered as he looked out the window again.

“You really love snow that much?” Jungkook asked giving Jimin a curious look and the older nodded.

“It always snows before Christmas in Busan and since I’ve always celebrated it there, I began to associate snow with Christmas...without snow, it doesn’t feel like Christmas,” Jimin explains as he frowns up at the cloudless sky.

“Hmm..I see…” Jungkook said thoughtfully as he rested his chin on Jimin’s shoulder, his gaze also turned towards the window. They sat in silence for a few minutes before Jimin spoke up.

“It’s getting late Kookie, let’s go to sleep. Jin hyung will be here with Namjoon hyung early tomorrow since he’s bringing all the main dishes. And I’m betting Taehyung and Hoseok hyung will be trailing in after them.” Jimin said with a small laugh. He was excited to see all his friends tomorrow morning for a rather early afternoon Christmas party. They had planned the party last minute and had settled for the early afternoon because most of them already had plans for later in the night.

“And Yoongi hyung will probably be dragged in by the both of them.” Jungkook agreed as he smiled at the image in his mind.

“Yep. So let’s go to sleep so we’ll have enough energy for tomorrow’s party.” Jimin said as he pulled himself out of Jungkook’s hold and stood up. Jungkook immediately stood up as well and before Jimin could react, Jungkook picked him up and carried him bridal style towards their bedroom.

“Wah! Kookie! Let me down!” Jimin squealed as he let out a small fit of giggles and clung to Jungkook’s neck to maintain some sort of balance. Jungkook giggled as well as he rushed them towards their bed and set Jimin down softly before climbing onto the other side and pulling the blankets over the both of them. Jimin’s giggled a bit more and snuggled closer to his boyfriend.

“It’s cold Kookie.” Jimin murmured burying his face into the younger’s chest. Jungkook turned to his side and wrapped his arms around Jimin, pulling him as close as possible. He rubbed at Jimin’s back soothingly and whispered, “I’ll keep you warm hyung, so stay close to me always.”

“Hmm...I think I will.” Jimin whispered back as he closed his eyes and let himself absorb all the warmth he was receiving.

“Good, cause I’m not planning to let you go anyway,” Jungkook replied cheekily as he began peppering Jimin’s face with kisses. Jimin laughed and squirmed but didn’t make much of an effort to get away. When Jungkook seemed to be done, Jimin took his revenge by tickling the younger who let out a unmanly cry and began to laugh really hard. Jimin climbed on top of Jungkook to keep him from getting away and tickled him mercilessly.

“Stop! Stop! You win!” Jungkook cried out in between bursts of laughter. Jimin was laughing as well but he finally stopped and got off the younger, sliding back beside him. They both giggled and Jungkook clasped their hands together under the sheets. He stared at Jimin lovingly, and Jimin stared back with the same feeling. They kissed once more. It was a long and sweet kiss, that expressed just how much they loved each other. Jimin always voiced and showed his affections for the younger, but the younger would sometimes hold back because he was shy. They had a few more small kisses before they both finally went to sleep.

When Jimin awoke the next day, he was alone. Jungkook was not beside him like usual. When he realized this he shot up and searched the room with eyes to see if his boyfriend was anywhere nearby. He looked towards the bathroom hoping Jungkook would be in there. But the door was open and the lights were closed, indicating no one was there. The room was empty and his boyfriend was nowhere in sight. Jimin frowned as he pulled the blankets off of himself and stood up. Jungkook was probably in the kitchen making breakfast or something, Jimin thought as he headed towards the bathroom and brushed his teeth. After brushing his teeth, he went to the bedroom window and opened the blinds, hoping that maybe, just maybe , there would be snow for Christmas after all. However, there wasn’t any, the sun was out even though the air outside was bound to be chilly. Jimin sighed and then finally decided to go to the kitchen and find his boyfriend.

As soon as he stepped into the living room he found himself in a completely foreign place. There was no way this was their living room, because as far as Jimin remembered their living room was carpet...dark blue carpet. But right now, the carpet was covered in some white substance. Also, there was white stuff floating around the room and seemed to be falling from the ceiling.

“Surprise!” Jimin heard a voice yell from beside him. He looked up to see Jungkook beside him with a bunny smile on his face. His eyes crinkled a bit at the corners and he seemed really proud of himself.

“I know you’ve been wanting it to snow for like forever. But it didn’t look like we’d get any snow this year, at least not for Christmas. And you told me yesterday how you thought it didn’t feel like Christmas cause there wasn’t any snow. And so I wanted to make it feel more like Christmas with this fake snow.” Jungkook explained as he gestured to their living room.

“Oh, Kookie…” Jimin was speechless as he realized what Jungkook had done. Jimin had been longing for snow for the whole week and he had been a bit upset when he finally accepted that there would most likely be no snow for Christmas. He hadn’t meant to let it dampen his mood but it had, and so Jungkook had done something about it.

“Do you like it, hyung? I woke up like four hours ago with this idea in my head and so I went online to see what I could use to make fake snow. Turns out all I needed was a pipe with a water source and then I needed to add pressure and....” Jungkook continued to explain how he had made the fake snow and covered the whole room. Jimin was only half listening to his explanation. He was still thinking about how Jungkook had done all this for him and how it must have taken him so long and how Jungkook must have been tired by now.

“So what do you think hyung? Is this close enough to the real thing?” Jungkook asked looking at Jimin uncertainly.

“It’s…” Jimin trailed off looking around the room again. He then smiled his famous eye smile and hugged Jungkook.

“It’s absolutely perfect! Thank you Kookie! Thank you!” Jimin exclaimed as he kissed Jungkook and hugged him tightly.

“You’re welcome,” Jungkook replied and kissed the elders cheek. Jimin pulled away from Jungkook and walked into the middle of the room to where the main source of the fake snow was falling from the ceiling.

“You really don’t know how happy you made me with this. It really looks like snow! It even feels a bit like snow! You didn’t have to do all this just for me you know?” Jimin said turning to look at Jungkook again. Jungkook was leaning against the wall, a satisfied smile on his face as he watched his hyung who now had fake snow in his hair and clothes.

“I wanted to. I’d do anything for you hyung.” Jungkook responded as he walked up to Jimin and hugged him again.

“Really Kookie..you’re the best. I really really love you.” Jimin whispered into Jungkook’s ear as he hugged the younger back.

“And you can’t begin to imagine just how much more I love you hyung,” Jungkook responded as he pulled away. Jimin looked at Jungkook a bit dumbfounded, he knew Jungkook loved him, but he didn’t voice it often like Jimin did.

“And because I love you so much, I’ve finally decided to man up and ask you this, even if we haven’t been dating for that long yet.” Jungkook began as he got down on one knee and pulled out a small velvet box. Jimin was speechless again, looking at the box in disbelief.

“Since the day we met, I knew I was attracted to you. We knew each other for two years before I finally built up the guts to ask you out, but before I could, you confessed and asked me out. Even though I wanted to be the one to ask you out, I’m kind of glad you did it first, or we might not have even been dating as long as we have. Then after summer you brought up the idea of living together. I had always wondered what that would be like but I never had the courage to ask you to move in with me. So again, I’m glad you did. So far in our relationship, you have initiated all the big changes, and I’m happy about that, but it’s time I initiated one…” Jungkook paused for a second glancing up at Jimin before opening the box to reveal a diamond ring.

“Jimin. I love you. I’ve loved you for a long time. I love waking up next to you. I love going on dates together. I love cooking together. I love our little movie nights and our little traditions. I love how you compliment me so easily and support everything I do. I love your personality. I love your smile. I love that you’re so small. I..I just really love everything about you. And I’m sure that eventually, you’d have proposed to me because that’s just like you. You initiate things. But not this time hyung.” Jungkook gave Jimin a small shy smile.

“This time I’m going to be first. I want to marry you Jimin. So...will you do me the honor of marrying me?” Jungkook finally asked looking up at Jimin with hopeful eyes that held just a bit of fear. There was a moment of silence as Jimin was still processing everything Jungkook had said. Fake snow fell around them and covered the both of them in white. Jimin stared at Jungkook wide-eyed before he began to nod.

“Yes! Yes, I’ll definitely marry you!” Jimin exclaimed with tears in his eyes. Jungkook’s smile widened as he slipped the ring onto Jimin’s finger and then stood up and the both of them hugged and shared a kiss once more.

“I can’t believe you beat me to it.” Jimin murmured as they pulled away from each other. Jungkook smiled happily. Honestly, Jimin couldn’t have been more surprised by Jungkook’s marriage proposal. Every one of their friends had always believed that it would be Jimin who’d propose to Jungkook, never would they have thought it would be the other way around.

“I’m glad I did. I’m glad I built up the courage to finally ask.” Jungkook replied, pressing his forehead to Jimin’s.

“Me too, Jungkook. Me too.” Jimin smiled and went in for another kiss. As they were kissing they heard a knock at their door. They pulled away but didn’t let go of each other just yet.

“I’m guessing that’s Jin and Namjoon hyung,” Jungkook said.

“Yea. Maybe we should let them in and tell them the happy and somewhat surprising news?” Jimin suggested.

“We should definitely do that,” Jungkook responded and they both laughed, stealing one more kiss from each other before finally opening the door to relay the exciting news.
