Summary
"Two Forks, this is Thorofare tower, come in."
It was only a small speaker, but the woman's voice was still loud, especially considering the relative silence Mark had been in for the whole day.
He picked up the walkie talkie and pressed the large button on the right side.
"Hello?" The word came out raspy, prompting Mark to clear his throat, taking his finger away from the button.
"It's Mark, right?" The voice asked, even though it sounded like she was already certain of the answer.
"Yeah."
Mark moved over to his bed, taking the weight off his legs. It was bare, the bedding folded neatly at the end of it. He couldn't help but hate the person that had set up his space, considering that they must've known what a long hike it was to the tower and still didn't think about the fact that he'd want an already made bed.
"I'm Helly."

Mark starts a new job as a fire lookout as a way to escape his grief, hoping for a relatively quiet and easy few months. Until he meets his boss, Helly, over his walkie talkie and wants to know more about her, despite their physical distance.
