   Summary

   In 1965, Benjamin Barker is barred from the UK Chess Championship after physically assaulting his opponent, Phillip Turpin. In 1985, he is ready to face his greatest opponent again. Johanna has watched from afar for twenty years as her father slowly breaks himself down in the pursuit of getting his revenge of the man who stole his title. Unsure of the story behind her father's ban, Johanna secretly masters the game, too. Hoping that one day, she'll finally receive her father's attention. As she realizes how much the game consumes a person after her own encounter with Turpin, she is unsure how to stop her obsession.
