Work Text:
Nom couldn’t believe that this was actually happening. Katie had left him. She just left leaving only a note saying that she couldn’t do this anymore. After everything that happened, everything Nom had done for her, she'd just left him.
That's why Nom had gone to this club in the first place he just needed noise and a lot of Booze, hopefully he could forget about Katie's departure like this, drown out his sorrows like this. With enough alcohol, he was certain he would.
So what if Nom just ended up sitting at the bar and chugging drink after drink? The buzz he was starting to feel was helping. While on his second drink, Nom noticed a group of 5 what he assumed to be university students come in as this club was close to their campus. Nom looked over to make a short inventory of the people that were now crowding the bar right next to him. It was a group of three girls and two guys, maybe studying in the same field and going out together for the night. Most of them were unremarkable, except for the blond guy in the group, he was gorgeous. He also seemed to be somewhat uncomfortable in this place, maybe he wasn’t a party person. And maybe if Nom wasn’t wallowing in his own self-pity and sorrow, he would have asked the blond to dance. But he was definitely not drunk enough for that today and he doubted that he would be.
Nom had about five more drinks by the time it took the group to disperse over the club leaving the blond behind at the counter. What assholes. Nom had overheard bits of their conversation and from what he got they definitely dragged the blond here, to his first party, just to leave him alone. Absolute idiots.
“Are you feeling okay?” The blond hesitantly asked Nom, after he had ordered another round.
“Yeah, why?” Nom responded with clear surprise, that he was currently being addressed.
“Well, that’s the 6th beer you’ve had since I showed up here, and you look like you’re miserable.” The blond seemed to explain.
“Is it that obvious” Nom tried to deflect with a laugh.
“Yeah, it looks like your evening is absolutely horrible,” the blond said with a kind smile.
“Just like yours then im assuming, you where kinda left alone by your friends here after all, and you look like you're fully overwhelmed by this place.” Nom pointed out in return.
“Guess I'm obvious too. I didn’t actually want to be here but they assured me we would all stick together, that didn’t really happen.” Scott said as he looked down at his hands.
“My sister just left, when i got back from work, I found a letter from her basically saying it was my fault and not to look for her,” Nom confessed, as his lips felt looser, probably because of the alcohol he had already consumed.
“What about your parents?” The blond asked in his softly manner.
“Abandoned us when I was 15.” Nom just shrugged.
“I'm sorry,” the blond immediately said.
“Doesn't matter anymore.” Nom said with a shrug before adding, “My name's Nom by the way.”
“Scott” the blond responded with a smile.
And before the conversation could go any further some guy looking to be a bit older than the two of them leaned against the counter in the middle of them. Like some sort of wall. He was turned to face Scott and quite clearly drunk as Nom could literally smell the alcohol on him. Out of the corner of his eye, Nom could also see the guy's friends seemingly cheering him on. “Well hello there beautiful, mind if I buy you a drink?”
“Id prefer if you didn’t,” Scott politely declined. Great, now this guy could get lost. Seriously, how rude could one be they were having a conversation.
“If you don't want the drink, we could just dance.” The guy continued with a confident smirk.
“I'm not interested.” Scott bluntly told him, as he started getting very uncomfortable in this situation.
“Oh come on, don't be like that,” the guy said as he leaned closer into Scott’s personal space. And that was definitely sending alarm bells into Nom's brain.
“Leave him alone, he literally just told you hes not interested,” Nom bluntly told the guy, while setting his drink down.
“I don’t remember this being any of your business.” The guy snapped without giving Nom a Second glance.
“It became my business when you decided to harass my friend,” Nom countered, as he fully turned to face the guy.
“Do you have any idea who I am?” The guy said as he turned to face Nom in what was supposed to be a threatening manner.
“Don't give a shit,” Nom responded, without breaking eye contact.
“My dad owns this club.” The guy said like it would make Nom automatically apologise to him and beg for forgiveness.
“So? It doesn’t give you an excuse to ignore people’s boundaries and act like a complete creep.” Nom bluntly told him. That caused the guy to stutter for a moment.
“Then I’ll just call the cops and have you arrested.” The guy dicleard, to his, why to supportive of this, friends.
“Arrested for what? Standing up to your bullshit.” Nom asked with a genuine laugh, the entitlement on this guy.
“No for drugging the hot guy’s drink.” The Man smirked, before taking Nom's half-finished beer and moving it to be in front of Scott on the counter, then pulling a small plastic bag filled with some kind of white powder from his pocket and dropping it in the drink. “I’ll just delete the camera footage before the cops come and it’ll be your word against mine and my friends.”
Now this all was definitely a step too far, especially because it was clear that this guy wasn’t bluffing. Nom felt disgust and rage in his stomach but he just stayed calm and said, “yeah, so I'd love to have a look at that footage right now actually, and after that your under arrest for possession of drugs and putting them in someone’s drink.” While speaking, Nom pulled his badge out from inside his jacket pocket before placing it on the table.
And the way the guy's face fell, when he saw the badge was simply priceless. “Wait, you’re a cop!” The guy yelled pulling a lot of the attention from around him.
“Yeah, and you have the right to remain silent, this usually would be the part where I cuff you but I'm technically supposed to be off duty now so yeah. So how about instead you walk me over to the security room so we can get that footage and Scott, if you’d be so kind as to call the police and tell the night shift to pick this guy up that would be awesome.” Nom said before everything went into motion and not even 20 minutes later Owain who was stuck on night shift today came in to properly arrest this guy, and confiscated the prof Nom had gathered. At the end of it all Nom was standing in front of the club together with Scott just watching the police car make its way back to the station.
“Thank you,” Scott sincerely thanked Nom.
“Anytime, that guy was an absolute asshole anyway.” Nom said before faltering, he really didn’t want to say goodbye to Scott. What if he never saw him again?
“You want to maybe have a stroll through the park together, continue our conversation from earlier,” Nom suggested as he tipped his head toward the park that was about two blocks away from them.
“I think I’d really like that,” Scott said with a gentle smile as they started walking.
And once Nom finally crashed on his choch he had completely forgotten about the sorrow hed felt at Katie’s departure. Tomorrow once he rested and sobered up it would probably return. But for today the only thing he felt was the joy of having somehow gotten Scott’s number and agreed to go on a proper date together.
