Chapter 1: Prologue

Chapter Text

"What exactly do you want to do?" Donnie asked. He eyed Leo skeptically, knowing there was surely some mischievous scheme brewing in his twin's brain—which was predictable enough, given that they were currently in disguise.

"Hmm, Donald, you've got to trust me—this is going to be epic!" Leo replied confidently. He swung his Odachi, propelling them toward April's apartment building.

They weren't there to see April, though, they wanted to watch their orange younger brother's mystical training session with Draxum.

It seemed the blueq turtle had his own plans regarding their brother. They leapt through a portal and landed right in front of April's apartment building.

"Do I even need to ask why we didn't just go straight to Draxum's doorstep?" Donnie asked. He was truly fed up with his brother.

"Are you in a rush? Why make a fuss? This is exercise!!" Leo said, giving Donnie a playful shove on the shoulder to get him moving toward the building entrance.

Donnie let out an annoyed sigh but followed Leo inside. They strolled along, but just as Donnie was about to step into the elevator, Leo stopped him.

"Hold on, bro—which part of 'exercise' didn't you get? We're taking the stairs!" Leo said, grinning and pointing cheerfully at the stairwell.

Donnie was certain his twin just wanted to get a rise out of him—and all the hassle that entailed—but he let it slide, he was just too tired to argue. He followed Leo up the stairs, after all, it wasn't a high floor, and he was in good health.

Four months after the Krang invasion, they had recovered quickly, though everyone was still being monitored for potential complications. Fortunately, there hadn't been any incidents to cause concern so far.

Leo had recovered rapidly and would likely have another session with Dr. Feelings this month. Raph’s vision was fine, though the injuries around his eyes still required monitoring. After discovering he could wield mystic hands, Mikey wanted to delve deeper into the skill with Draxum right away. Meanwhile, Donnie was busy restoring their home-based tech—and upgrading it, too, if he could spare the time.

Mikey was absolutely insistent that Leo see "Doctor Feelings" regarding his reckless decision to trap himself in the Prison Dimension along with Krang One. Leo found the whole thing a bit annoying, yet he was also touched that his little brother cared enough to notice.

Now was the moment Leo would declare a "sibling bonding session"—usually a prelude to some prank or mischief he’d cooked up. Donnie had no clue what Leo was planning, though he was certainly there because this particular brother had dragged him along.

They finally arrived at Draxum’s door, and Leo knocked immediately, calling out for Mikey or Draxum—whoever might answer. Yet, after waiting several minutes, neither of them opened the door.

"Is training supposed to be this quiet?" Leo asked. Donnie was skeptical, is something happened inside? Usually, you could hear Draxum guiding Mikey whenever he told the orange turtle to focus on something.

Sensing something was amiss due to the lack of a response, Leo finally slashed his Odachi to force his way into the apartment.

Both of them were shocked by what they saw. "What... what happened?!" Leo shouted in surprise. Draxum’s apartment was in shambles, looking as if a storm had torn through it. The sofa was overturned, the potted plants Mikey had tended to were smashed, and the photo frames Mikey hung up were shattered.

"Donnie, what happened?!" Leo asked, looking at Donnie with a panicked expression. "How should I know?! I’ve been with you the whole time!" Donnie replied. He scanned the room, hoping to spot their orange brother or the goat yokai. But they found nothing—where had the two of them gone?! Had there been a fight they didn't know about?! Was Mikey in danger?!

They didn't know who to ask, were there any clues here?

"APRIL!!" they both shouted.
