Work Text:
The sounds of rain hitting the pavement and cars honking were the only sounds Tommy ever heard on his way home from work every day. He was too poor to afford headphones (let alone an actual phone), so he had no choice but to walk in silence. His walks were usually peaceful, unless you considered the fact that he was being stalked by a guy in a green hoodie.
The guy liked to harass Tommy and beat the shit out of him if he ever got a hold of him - which was almost every day since Tommy wasn’t able to walk faster than he already was. Being a hybrid of a cow had its drawbacks some time - well, most of the time, actually.
“Fuck off, man! I got shit to do and places to be!” Tommy groaned in annoyance as the green hoodie guy tackled him to the ground and started punching him. One of the very few good things about being a cow hybrid was that Tommy was an indestructible tank. The punches and kicks that were usually dealt by green hoodie guy never hurt him.
If he used a knife or any other weapon, well, then that’s a different story.
Tommy just sighed, grunting every once in a while to pretend like the guy was actually hurting him. “You got some anger issues you need to sort out, dude.”

“Techno! Come on! We’re only a few blocks away from West District. We haven’t seen anything or anyone while on patrol yet. For all we know, our soulmate could be living in West District, and we wouldn’t even know it.”
Wilbur had been trying to convince his brother to let them patrol West District for weeks now, but to no avail. He was starting to think that his brother was scared of the West District and often (playfully) mocked him for it.
Techno sighed and ran a hand through his long hair. “Okay, fine! But I don’t wanna hear you whining about it any longer, got it?”
Wilbur nodded his head, running towards the fire escape ladder that scaled the side of the small brick building they were standing on. He climbed down all of the ladders faster than Techno could climb down the first one.

Wilbur and Techno strolled through the streets of West District. Cars honked at them, recognizing them and probably wondering why the city’s greatest heroes were in the shittiest part of the city, before driving off.
It was pouring down rain tonight, and they were soaked, but neither of them regretted coming here. They could already feel the pull of their soulmate the more they walked in this direction.
“I can feel them. They’re nearby.” Techno mumbled as he looked around. The streets were dead, save for a few teens walking home and an old couple sitting on a bench. Neither were their soulmates. They could tell by the way their soulmate bond pulled them in the opposite direction from them.
Just as they turned a corner, Techno and Wilbur heard a series of grunts and groans coming from an alleyway across the street. They crossed the street and saw a cow hybrid being beaten up by a guy in a green hoodie. The cow hybrid seemed annoyed more than hurt, but what drew their attention was their soulmate bond pulling them towards the hybrid.
The cow hybrid, hearing that he and green hoodie guy were not alone anymore, looked up, his eyes widening in recognition. “Soulmate?” His voice was barely above a whisper, but thanks to Wilbur and Techno’s enhanced hearing, they heard him perfectly.
Wilbur pushed the green hoodie guy off their soulmate and Techno helped the cow hybrid up to his feet. Wilbur arrested him, called the police, and sat the guy down near the dumpster at the end of the alleyway.
“Do you know him?” Techno asks.
“Kind of. He’s been following me for almost a year now. He tries to beat the shit out of me every day, but because of my hybrid genes, I don’t get hurt from his kicks or punches. I usually just wait it out until he gets tired.” The hybrid says, then holds out his hand for Techno to shake. “I’m Tommy, by the way. I’m a hybrid of a highland cow.”
Techno smiled and shook the teen’s hand. “Nice to meet you. I’m Techno. My brother and I are piglin hybrids.”
“Gold!”
Tommy and Techno turn to see Wilbur and Techno staring at them - well, Tommy, technically. “No, Wil. His name is Tommy.” Tommy just chuckles and continues talking with Techno, completely fine with Wilbur embracing him from behind and running his hands through his hair.
Yeah, they’re definitely soulmates.
