Reiner shook his head. There was a twinkle in Bertolt’s dark green eyes—like he knew Reiner’d never liked hard candy, like it was part of the pleasure of teaching Reiner marksmanship, to watch him squirm.
“You could pass it to me instead.”
Reiner felt confused. He’d been taught, under pain of having his knuckles bruised, to never open his mouth while eating. It was impolite. Unbecoming of a future Warrior. And at this rate, he’d never even have a chance at becoming a Warrior, unflappable politeness aside, since he couldn’t shoot for shit. Couldn’t run. Couldn’t be anything but last place, panting, losing, watching his family’s chance at normality and his own chance at eternal glory slip away.
“With your mouth,” explained Bertolt. “If you kiss me.”
