In the backroom of a dingy tavern in Tretogor, three men are standing bowed over a table, long scrolls and heavy books spread out in front of them. They’re wearing coarse cloaks over fancy outfits; three pairs of finely made leather shoes peek out from underneath the peasant garb. The candles cast flickering light over them.
“Are you sure we will find something useful in here?” one of them asks.
“Don’t be such a pussy, Szczepan, and get started,” one of his companions replies.
“If you want out, now’s the chance,” the last man in their little group says in a tone of voice that suggests he knows the outcome of this offer in advance.
“Of course not. I want to be rid of this mutant ruler as much as you, Your Grace. Redania for Redanians!”
The duke rubs his hands together. “Gentlemen, the game is afoot.”
