Shannon could see that the lid was sat nearby on the ground, and what was now shining in its stead was the cheap, dented tin of a half-finished can of cat food, clutched in a hand that was frozen mid-air upon discovery. Further hidden in the safety of the dark, Shannon could barely make out large, wet eyes staring at him, not even daring to blink.
Ah. A human stray.
