Chapter Text
Trinity Santos was on the last hour of her shift. She was doing as fine as she could be considering she only had a few hours of sleep. She was running off Red bulls and Monsters. She went to go visit her patient. It was a small child about ten who was in there for a drug overdose. Trinity could not have gotten a more triggering patient for her. Trinity started to introduce herself, “Hi I’m Trinity and I will be your doctor today”. She got her name from her mother and any further information she needed. Trinity was stressed to say the least her mind couldn’t stop jumping from the worst possibilities. What if this child isn’t safe at home? Or what if she overdosed on purpose? What was worse was Trinity didn’t know how she was going to figure it out. After talking more with the patient and her mom she went to go find Robby.
She caught up with Robby when he finally got a moment of peace. “Hey, are you free to talk about a patient?” “As free as I ever will be.” “I’ve got a kid in the behavior room drug overdose and I’m wondering if it was on purpose.” “We as doctors just have to hope for the best and say it was an accident unless specified”. She was annoyed she figured he would say something like that but she still wasn’t sure what to do.
After all she came into this profession to help children like her and it just feels wrong to just assume. She had a few options she could try to ask the mom or child; just assume it was an accident and hope for the best. There was a problem with asking the child; if the mom was in the room she would just lie. Trinity knew this a little too well from her own experiences. She started to walk to the room just then the mom left to go use the restroom.
“Hey, just wanted to check in to see if you're doing ok”. “I am.” “I have to ask you some mandatory questions that we ask everyone.” “Have you ever thought about hurting yourself?” “Uhh I guess so sometimes yeah.” “Lately I was having a hard time so I just thought it would be easier”…. Trinity knew now that the overdose was on purpose and was feeling like shit for having to report it. She was tempted to not report it all because sometimes reporting it goes worse for patients but she knew what the right thing was to do.
She went to go find Robby again. She eventually had found him and she only had around five minutes of her shift left. “Dr. Robby, I have to report something to you.” “Ok shoot.” “The kid in behavior I know that it was on purpose.” “What I am going to do is hold a forty eight psychiatry hold and see what the mother wants to do from there.” Trinity went home after telling the night shift what to do for her patient. Dennis was at her apartment he had his air pods and this time he was not dancing.
“Hey Trin how’d your shift go?” “It was good.” Hoping he couldn’t spot the obvious lie. “I’m going to Amy's at six going for dinner and to help with the baby.” “Ok Huckleberry be safe.” she winked and lifted her eyebrows while saying it. Dennis rolled his eyes as dramatically as he could.
