“Why do you need two of you? Volt should just take over.”
“What the fuck? What do you know? Get out! Get the fuck out!” Eddie yells.
Volt moves Eddie aside and whispers, “I’ll take care of them.”
He returns to you, feeling himself fall into rage. He looks down at his hands, sparking electricity and gradually turning to a cyan color.
“I gave you everything you could want. And you…”
“I don’t appreciate liars.”
“Excuse me? My job is to protect Eddie. He trusted you. And that’s how you respond?”
“I should have known you two were bad news. You two enjoy yourselves in suffering. Eddie shouldn’t be depending on you. You’re clearly incompetent at your only job.”
“I happen to take my protection of Eddie very seriously. Leave and don’t return. This is your only warning.”
“You think I’m scared of you electric freaks? Try me.”
Volt feels electricity surging through his veins, and before you can leave, he aggressively grabs your shoulder. The contact causes severe shock through your body. You release a guttural scream as your body falls lifeless to the ground. Volt stands and stares at your body. There’s no going back now. You’re gone. At his hands.
Volt awakes in panicked breaths. He glances to his side to see you sleeping peacefully. Without thinking, he clings to you, wrapping his arms around your body. The sudden contact scares you awake.
“Huh?” you yelp. You settle once you realize who grabbed onto you. “Volt? Baby, what’s going on?”
Tears develop in Volt’s eyes as he nuzzles into your neck. You hold onto him tightly, resting your head on his.
“Live wire…” His cries grow in volume as his tears begin to spill onto your neck.
“I’ve got you, love,” you reassure him, placing a kiss on the crown of his head before leaning yours back on his. “Let it out.”
With those words, Volt allows himself to let go of any resistance he had to his crying. The sounds of Volt’s wails cause Eddie to stir around and his eyes flutter open. He sits up, looking over at the sight of Volt wrapped around you, sobbing into your neck. Eddie gives you a concerned expression before moving closer to the two of you. He reaches over to Volt’s hand. Realizing he couldn’t interlock his hand with Volt’s in his current position, he places his hand on top of Volt’s. Eddie leans his head against the back of Volt’s neck.
“We’re here, Volt,” Eddie whispers.
Volt lightens his hold on you to grab Eddie’s hand. His and Eddie’s hands are intertwined while their arms lie across your waist and your hand rests on Volt’s shoulder. The three of you stay connected for a few more moments before you move your hand, brush Volt’s hair out of his face, and gaze into his eyes. His eyes are puffy and red, as expected after his tears.
“Live wire…”
“Yes, my love, I’m here.” You muster up a weak smile.
“I…I dreamed that you turned on us back at the breaker box…”
“Oh love…”
“You didn’t fix the faulty wire…you disrespected Eddie…and me. You called me incompetent and…” Volt pauses. “I was so angry that I electrocuted you to death.” He shakes with his last words. Eddie squeezes Volt’s hand tighter for a moment.
“Volt…” You run your hands through his hair to soothe him. “I’ll always be here. And you’re a human now, my love. That form can’t haunt you anymore.”
“I know, spark. I’m so grateful for you entering our lives.”
You move your hand to caress his cheek. You can tell he wants to lean forward and kiss you, but doesn’t want to let go of Eddie. You close the gap between the two of you and kiss him softly. When you pull away, he whines a bit.
“Keep kissing me!” he pouts. You let out a giggle before obliging. Volt is a bit lost in the moment. Every time you pull away, he attempts to lean back into you.
You laugh. “I think you have another partner who might want some.”
“Take your time,” Eddie says sarcastically.
Volt lets go of Eddie’s hand and flips over to face Eddie. “My apologies, dear Eddie. I was a bit swept up.”
“I get why.”
Eddie takes his turn kissing Volt. It’s a little more intense now that Volt has free hands to place on his cheek and the back of his head. You glide your hand up and down Volt’s arm soothingly. Once Volt finally pulls away, you lean up to Volt’s ear.
“We love you, Volt,” you speak in his ear.
“We love you.” Eddie joins you in your affectionate words, gazing directly at Volt.
“I love you both. More than anything. Thank you,” Volt smiles.
“Do you think you can sleep now, beautiful?” you ask.
“Yes, live wire, I’ll try again to sleep. Goodnight, my sweet spark. Goodnight, darling.”
“G’night, Volt,” you and Eddie vocalize in unison.
Eddie rests his head on Volt’s chest, while you rest yours on Volt’s back. Volt sleeps through the rest of the night without an issue.
