Everything has its limits. These days I am constantly reminded of it--terminal velocity, terminal temperature, terminal illness--no matter what you change, it will only ever inch towards a predetermined value. I feel like I have crammed so much stress and angst into my brain over the past ten-thousand life threatening emergencies that it has groaned and whined like a rust-bucket trash compactor towards a point of stress that could literally break my sanity once and for all.I don’t know if my stress ever got this bad on Earth. Probably not; It seems to be the negative side effect of evading certain death, what I get for abusing the monkey’s paw. One more chance at life for another helping of crippling anxiety. Now that I’m three miraculous-survivals deep and somehow traveling to an alien planet, you can guess how well I’ve been sleeping.
Hint: Not great.
