Work Text:

After Grace arrives on Erid and Rocky’s seen him actively starving and dying and his organs shutting down, all his scars opening up, Grace becoming lethargic and someone that Rocky doesn’t know and he can’t fix it.

Rocky rapidly communicates the nutrients that Grace needs and they’re ready when they arrive. Grace is put on liquid nutrients and sleeps for weeks. Rocky watches and works on making him solid food. He forgoes his own sleep so that when Grace wakes up, he can eat real food for the first time in years.

Rocky is successful and has meburger ready when Grace wakes up. He swears to Grace that more human food is being developed. Grace is just grateful he’s not dead and watches Rocky sleep. It’s months before Grace can be moved from the medical station, but it gives Rocky time to build and plan what's necessary.

Graces biodome is ready and he cries when he sees it. Touched that Rocky went through all that to see to his comfort, health, and happiness. And Rocky makes it his life’s mission that Grace is never looks like he did before Erid again.

He develops more food for Grace and insists Grace taste test each concoction. Rocky makes them more nutrient dense than their counterpart found on earth and sees Grace start to swell, his body filling out in a way that Rocky had never seen before.

It makes him chirp and trill with pride because he made Grace that way, he was the one to heal him and protect him. Soon Grace’s clothes don’t fit. Grace gets leaky about it, but Rocky is there to comfort him. Rocky makes him new clothes to accommodate his new body.

Grace is wholly Rocky’s. Covered inside and out by Rocky’s care, engineering, planning, and love. Every time Rocky’s claw sinks into soft flesh, every time he sees a new mark on Grace indicating his skin is growing, every time Grace walks and his body moves, Rocky is happy.

Rocky swore he would never let Grace get so sick again, and Rocky never breaks his promises.
