   Summary

   When the disastrous sinking of a British ocean liner takes irreplaceable equipment for the US 23rd Regiment down with it, Colonel Lexa Woods of Wyoming, the first-ever female commander in the American military, is maneuvered into contracting for the hated speculators of Kingsley Corporation to cross into Nebraska to relieve a gold mining town from being besieged by a gang of bandits: a Nebraskan town inexplicably full of Californians lording over the locals like tyrants... And what sort of real outlaw enjoys such popular support as Clark Griffin, anyway?

   Clarke Griffin of Nebraska was a simple woman with simple dreams once: follow in her mother's footsteps as a doctor, showcase her artworks, and live in peace in her hometown. But when Kingsley Corporation usurps a recently-discovered gold deposit and all but enslaves the townsfolk to work themselves to death, including her parents, she decides to take up arms against the tyrants, even if it means risking a showdown with the Federal Government.
