Summary
After unexpectedly returning from abstraction, Jax is left with missing memories, an unfamiliar softness and a growing fear that everyone has already learnt how to live without him. The more terrified he becomes of losing Pomni, the more he pulls her close, pushes her away and forces her to prove that she still wants him.
Pomni is determined to help Jax recover, even if it means ignoring her own resentment, exhaustion and increasingly disturbing symptoms. While Jax attempts to rebuild the relationships he destroyed and confront the parts of himself he buried long before entering the circus, Pomni quietly makes herself responsible for keeping him stable.
Jax is terrified Pomni will abandon him. Pomni is terrified he will stop needing her. Neither of them notices how badly they are hurting each other until Pomni begins disappearing too.
