Orange waited at the doors of the dropship where the new crewmates were. According to the paper work there should be a new unpaid intern and a contest winner, Green and White. Orange squeezed the trustball a bit to steady themselves. If they are going through the video right, then in a few more seconds the doors will open and they can do their whole spiel and start the tour. After the tour and introducing them to all the crewmates then that just leaves some paperwork and Orange should be done for today.
Well…as done as someone who reports to MIRA can possibly be while carrying a shipment of Ore+.
Okay they should be saying something about being introduced Now!
The doors open and a large amount of steam or gas or whatever hits their face as they get into position. Tossing the trust ball playfully into the air.
“Me, but now I'm real. Welcome to The Skeld! We're so happy to have you amongst us. Or is it "among us"? I always forget which one is grammatically correct.”
The white and green colored crewmate start clapping. Seems these two have energy! Exactly what MIRA looks for in new interns and hires. “That's right, it's me. Now, when you catch the trust ball, you have to say a fun fact about yourself.” Orange holds the Trust ball up to emphasize its existence and importance, “My fun fact is that I have two different pairs of shoes! One for normal day wear, and one for when I'm feeling sumptuous.”
Orange then tosses the ball to the white crewmate. White hesitates for a second as they hold the trust ball. “Uh-”
Orange wonders if they don’t have a Funfact about themselves and is about to tell them it’s okay but they seem to come up with something before they can react fully to the hesitation. “it doesn't matter how much sleep I get, I always awaken feeling well rested and ready to start the day!”
Huh…rare trait to have. Orange is almost envious. White then tosses the trust ball to who Orange can assume is Green. And Green fumbled the ball. Literally. Orange watches how Green fluffs up slightly in embarrassment as they go to sit back down.
“Uh,” Green starts “well, I grew up in a pretty poor area, but everyone back home believed in my dream to one day become a captain. So, the whole town pooled their meager resources to send me off to school in order to...” “Wow, what a unique dream to have,” Orange interrupts.
Might have been a tad rude of them but hey didn’t want to be here all day.
“Now, everybody already knows you're both coming, so let's start our meet and greet!” Orange leads the two crewmates to the storage room where the Ore + is being stored, lightly tapping the large crates to draw attention Orange starts on the next part of the tour.
“Sometimes, your unpaid internship will mean you work in here with Black and Cyan, our two geologists.” Orange hears Black scoff under their breath while Cyan greets the newcomers. Orange mentally notes how Black is being unpleasant, Orange already see the papers and complaints about their attitude.
“I'm a geologist, Cyan is a gemologist,” Black glares at Orange as they say this. Yeah, that’s not listed on the paperwork, Orange is pretty sure MIRA would have noted that. Plus Orange is like 78% sure that there’s not much difference between a gemologist and geologist anyways, at least concerning the Ore +. Orange gives Black a friendly smile.
“That’s not what the paperwork says,” Orange quickly senses that they shouldn’t have said that.
“Well the paperwork is BULLSHIT!” Black brandished a pipe in Orange’s direction. Orange takes a few quick steps back ready to run to the next area when the next thing Orange knew their was a loud crashing sound they were on the floor with a harsh ringing in their ears as everything faded back into view. …fuck…
