Work Text:

Alright, so Scout loved him.

Medic wasn't really sure what he was meant to do with that information, or if it was honestly even accurate. He supposed this torment was what he got for not getting black out drunk along with the other mercenaries.

Had Scout maybe said it before? Why now?

He turned the night over in his head fruitlessly, sitting at his desk and idly clicking his pen. Hed gone to the bathroom, and when he had stepped out, Scout was waiting. He figured the young man had needed to use the restroom, so he had made to walk past, but it seemed as if the man had other plans. Scout had grabbed his arms with surprising force, his face flushed and slightly sweaty from his poor attempts to get the other mercs to dance. "Why are you so pretty man?" Scout had slurred, squinting at him as if he could discern why he found him attractive that way.

"I… I'm pretty?" He'd said, and Scout nodded as if it was the most obvious thing on earth.

"Yeah! You've got the um… yknow. I dunno. Woah, your hands are really soft." Scout said that as Medic put his hands on his arms, the young man focusing in on his touch. "Can you kiss me? I wanna kiss you."

"Junge!" He exclaimed, the young man shushing him loudly.

Scout blubbered before starting to tear up, his face turning a violent shade of red. "I just love you, okay? Is that stupid? You dont wanna kiss me or nothin?"

The younger man had apparently hated Medics reply of "uh" and proceeded to break out into a stumbling run down the hallway, tripping out of his sight as he likely had dashed back to his room.

Medic stood there staring until Demo came over and moved him away from the bathroom door.

He sighed at his recollection, pulling out a sheet of paper from his desk.

So, Scout liked him. Medic understood that-- he was very intelligent, and attractive. The only issue was that… hed never really thought of Scout the same way.

Hed passively thought of having sex with him before (the man had a beautiful pair of legs, it was difficult to ignore), but beyond that they were just coworkers.

So, he resolved to make a list.

As to what he didnt like about Scout… well. The man was a bit loud, and he didnt really pick up after himself. He could be rude to teammates but Medic sometimes got a laugh out of it. The man lacked confidence. He could also barely read. Oh, and Spy was his father.

"Hmm.." as to what he did like, Scout was a rather handsome specimen. He liked his bunny teeth. And he liked that Scout was shorter. He liked his long, shapely legs. The young man had a nice ass too. In fact, Medic had seen him naked in the shower and upon recollection found him to be very fit and attractive.

He sighed, uncertain. Just as he did so, Heavy entered the medical office, carrying a book as he often would sit with Medic and read. "Something bothering you, doctor?" He asked, putting on his reading glasses and looking over at Medics paper curiously.

"Just debating something, mein freund."

Heavy took a seat across from the desk, the end caps making a loud squeak against the tile as the man shifted in closer. "Heavy can help." He peered over the list, Medic making no effort to hide it.

"You think Scout is handsome? He is this big. Like baby." Heavy made a pinching gesture with his fingers, his normal frown deepening. "Why make list? You are interested in little man?"

Medic laughed, turning the list toward Heavy so he could get a proper look. "Actually, the little man is interested in me. I'm just… wondering."

Heavy picked up the list, giving a little chuckle. "You are considering dating him?"

"Could be fun, ja? It's been a while." He and Heavy had dated for a bit a long time ago, but had decided they liked being friends more. Too incompatible on an emotional level— Heavy wasn't the best at talking about feelings and Medic wasn't the best at being ignored. Someone needy like Scout could potentially be what he wanted. "A date couldn't hurt, right?" He asked, Heavy grimacing at the prospect.

He was silent for several seconds, looking down at Medic's list with the sort of solemn disapproval usually reserved for acts of mercy. It was almost impressive, considering that the paper contained nothing more scandalous than a handful of observations about Scout.

"Scout is not good choice," he finally said.

Medic laughed again. Of course Heavy of all people would feel that way. Scout seemed bent on annoying the larger man— plus he snuck off with sandwiches all the time. Ah well— perhaps not the most impartial of judges to discuss the matter with.

"Well, it's my choice to make. It'll be like an experiment, hm?" He snatched the list from Heavy's large hands, the man sighing deeply before opening his book— Medic wasn't one to be argued with.

The list was folded and slipped into Medic's desk drawer, where it seemed considerably safer than in Heavy's hands. He had not come to any great conclusion, but then, perhaps he didn't need to. Scout had made his feelings rather painfully clear.

And Medic was curious.

That, more than anything, was what kept returning to him.

Curious about how Scout would behave in a relationship. Curious about whether that sudden, earnest affection had been nothing more than drunken sentimentality or whether it had been something Scout had been carrying around for much longer than Medic had realized.

He wondered at Scout's words— about what it would feel like to be with someone who would so plainly declare that he wanted to be with him.

Scout was outside when Medic found him the following evening.

He had gone around to the side of the base where the gravel gave way to a narrow strip of grass, a place mostly ignored by the others. The sun had fallen low enough to turn the windows amber, and the evening air had begun to chill.

Scout stood with his hands buried in his pockets.

He looked as though he had been waiting for something, though the moment Medic approached, his posture changed. His shoulders straightened. His chin lifted. Whatever uncertainty had occupied his face disappeared beneath an expression of practiced indifference. A terrible disguise, really— Medic could see the nervousness easily. His body twitched like a rabbit about to take off.

The memory of the party had clearly not been lost to him. His cheeks were already faintly red, and when Medic stopped beside him, Scout's eyes flicked toward him before darting away again.

Neither spoke for a moment, though it was entirely purposeful on Medic's part. He did enjoy watching him squirm— even before he'd considered him a romantic prospect.

"Hey doc, just uh. guarding. Y'know. The gravel." He was an awful liar. Medic sidled up near him, hands folded behind his back.

"You don't want to talk about last night?" He mused, Scout jumping in place at his forwardness.

"Well I— yknow!" He blubbered, face red, hands waving animatedly. "I was drunk, alright! I—"

"Did you mean it?" Medic asked plainly, looking down at the younger man. Scout's red face softened, his brows raised curiously.

Scout relaxed, hands falling limp at his sides. "Yeah, I mean— why wouldn't I mean it? I'm not the kinda guy who just says shit."

Medic quirked a brow, to which Scout waved him off. "You know what I mean, doc! It's like. Feelings and junk."

He stared for a moment, amused but also endeared by his vulnerability. It was strange to see Scout take on a tender tone, to see his eyes avert with shyness. He decided he liked it. Medic reached a hand out, fingers finding Scout's before he squeezed his hand tight, his thumb pressing into Scout's wrist in order to feel his heartbeat. Fast, like a frightened rabbit.

Medic drew in closer, Scouts gaze remained down-turned. He liked his bashfulness. One could obviously tell that Scout was putting on a front a lot of the time, but it was all too clear when his feelings were exposed. "Did you still want that kiss, herr Scout?"

Scout paused, audibly swallowing before nodding his head, looking up to meet Medic's eyes. It'd been a long time since Medic had kissed someone new, but it's not like it was a new concept to him. Still, he hesitated as if unpracticed, the sweet smell of soda on Scout's breath strange to him. He met his lips, surprised to find them soft, but recalled that Scout was well-known for his preening for the ladies.

Well, there wouldn't be a lady for him now. He raised a hand to touch Scout's smooth cheek, turning his head to deepen the kiss. Scout, who had previously seemed hesitant, dropped Medic's hand in order to wrap his strong arms around Medic's shoulders.

Medic only broke away when it became very clear that Scout wasn't breathing. The man gasped, then laughed, his face crimson. Medic watched him raptly, falling deeper into his strange charms. "Is it what you expected, Liebe?"

Scout grinned after regaining his breath, squeezing him in tight. "That was awesome. We should do that again. Like, now."

He tsked, kissing Scout's nose before drawing away. "Nein, you're buying me dinner first." Medic pulled away, turning to leave before looking over his shoulder. "Let's go out, hm?"

Scout nodded eagerly, taking Medic's hand and bounding a bit ahead of him, immediately starting to rattle off some ideas as to where they could go.

Medic watched him, the flash of his buck teeth, the light shimmering in his blue eyes and decided he had made the right choice.

Notes:
