The one time Alicent Hightower finally accepts Rhaenyra’s offer to fly upon Syrax, the worst possible thing happens: two strange men fall out of the sky, knock both girls from the dragon’s back, and send all four of them plunging into the sea.

Baelor and Maekar were supposed to be fighting in a Trial of Seven. Instead, after one particularly disastrous turn of events, they die, wake up falling through the sky, and accidentally drag two very confused young women into the sea with them.

“You knocked Alicent from the saddle!”
“That was not intentional!”
“Most idiots do not intend their idiocy! Idiots hardly have excellent timing!”
His face darkened. Rhaenyra’s own expression sharpened in answer. The dark-haired man glanced between them with the growing resignation of someone who had already realised he was surrounded by people with absolutely no sense of timing.
“Perhaps,” he began carefully, raising his voice over the thunder, “we might determine responsibility once we have succeeded in not drowning.”
