Work Text:

Tim has seen Lucy put her makeup on, she does it in the mornings. She does it on the way to work.

(Which she likes to do apparently).

He has seen her do it many times and she’s not the only one. He used to watch Isabel put it on, and Rachel and Ashley. Even Genny when she was a teenager.

But he didn’t pay that close of attention to it. He didn’t know how to do it nor did he ever think he would need to know.

But now he watches Lucy struggling with the eyeshadow and he knows he needs to help. Her arm is in a brace from hurting it on patrol. It was fractured and she tried to play it off but he knows she’s in pain.

“Let me help,” he says making his way over to her. She turns to face him with raised eyebrows.

“You want to help?”

“If I can.” He says. He takes the brush from her and then holds it. “You might have to help me.”

“Just brush it on.” She says. Tim gives her an incredulous look but she just closes her eyes and he starts. He knows she wears it light for work, so he doesn’t overdo it.

“Does it look good?” She asks.

“I don’t know about good.” He says. “But it’s on.” Lucy opens her eyes and looks in the mirror, the look on her face surprises him.

“Not bad.” She says as she rubs in the eyeshadow to blend it. “A little uneven but—”

“I’ll get better.” He blurts out. He’s already planning on learning how to do this right. Who knows they might have daughters some day.

It might come in handy again.

“You don’t have to.” Lucy says. “I can manage.”

“But I want to.” He insists. “Just let me okay?” She gives him a look and then finally nods.

“Okay.” She says. “If you want to.”

“I do want to.” He says giving her a smile. “I really do.”

Tim spends the next few days watching makeup tutorial videos. He watches every single one that he comes across. He also watches a few hair ones but Lucy seemed to have her hair down for the most part.

(He still wanted to know just in case).

He has seen Lucy continue to struggle and he just wants her to be comfortable. He knows he’s not going to be perfect.

But that’s okay.

He walks into the bathroom where Lucy is once again trying to put on makeup. Her arm is now in a sling and it’s even more awkward trying to get the brush to her eyelid.

Her hair is already brushed out and in a messy ponytail.

“Here.” Tim says. He leads her over to the bathtub and she sits down. He goes back to get her makeup and he starts putting it on.

He concentrates on making it perfect, and he doesn’t say a word neither does Lucy. He puts the mascara on (which he was nervous about) and the eyeliner. He finishes with a little bit of blush and light lip gloss.

“Okay.” He says. “Open your eyes. Lucy does and she stands up to look in the mirror.

“Oh my god.” She mutters. Tim freezes a little when she doesn’t say anything for several minutes.

“Is it that bad?” Tim asks reaching over to grab a makeup wipe but Lucy stops him.

“It’s good Tim.” She says. “Really good.” Tim frowns a little, it probably wasn’t that good.

“Really? Because—” Lucy puts a hand on his arm and gives him a bright smile, her brown eyes are sparking.

“Really.” She says. “Thank you.”

“Anytime.”

“You could have been a makeup artist.” She says. Tim rolls his eyes a little, but he’s smiling big. He might scoff at makeup talk but he is proud of himself. He’s glad he was able to learn and help Lucy out.

“Not really in my list of potential jobs but thank you.” He says. Lucy nods and leans up to press a kiss to his cheek.

“Anytime babe anytime.” She says. “And you know it won’t be forever. My arm will heal eventually.”

Tim nods and he’s a little disappointed because he likes helping Lucy. Maybe not helping her put on her makeup necessarily.

But just lending a helping hand.

“Why do you look so disappointed?” Lucy asks looking amused. Tim shrugs his shoulders and Lucy steps closer to him. She can’t wrap herself around him like she usually does. “Tim.”

“I like helping you and once your arm is healed…” Tim trails off.

“Then there will be other ways for you to help me.” Lucy says and her voice is serious. Tim also hears the other implications in her voice.

(He likes that very much too).

“Good.”

“Yes good.” Lucy says shaking her head. “I really do appreciate you Tim. Not just for this but for everything you do for me.”

“I appreciate you too.” He says softly because it goes both ways. He helps her and she helps him no matter what.

“Come on,” she says. “We have to finish getting ready for work. Coffee doesn’t make itself.” Tim laughs and follows her out of the bathroom.

Maybe next time he would help her with her hair or whatever else she needed help with.

He would help her, he would lend a helping hand.

No matter what.
