Chapter Text
"You shoud really experiment with you ability more, it coud be very versatile" marbas sensei said as his eyes gleamed with excitment, looking straight in oboras' eyes, who was looking rather unsure.
"I-im not sure sensei, i barley masterd the basic form of it.." he argued, fidgeting with his hands. He'd barley gotten to actualy know anyone and get rid of the rumor that he's a part of the second faith, he didnt wanna ruin that by messing with his bloodline ability.
But his teacher still looked at him with flashlights for eyes when he heard a few other students put out their opinions.
"Come on, your ability is so cool bro!"
"Yeah, i bet you coud do a lot with it, too!"
"Or atleasth show us one time!"
The consencis was obvious, just once, show everyone his bloodline ability, trauma.
He'd never been too comfortable with it, he doesnt like causing harm, bodliy or mental one, and his ability oftentimes ends up doing both.
He sighs. "Fine, just once." He agrees, marabas sensei cheers.
"Yeah dude!" A few call out.
Oboras look at his teacher, anticipating some insane idea. "What'd you want me to do then?" He asks, and he coud swear his teachers eyes exploded.
"Well, normaly you have a target you activley use it on, right? But its actual form is bug-like, so why dont you let it skirt around and find someone on its own?"
The idea didnt sound bad, it meant he woudnt have to decide who in the class to try it on, and it coud be usefull for long-range useage in the long run.
He nods.
After a few tries, he manges to shoot out a moving critter, but it runs out of the open classroom door.
It botherd no one, everyone asumed it'd poof out of existance shortly after, and they woud've been correct, hadnt someone been sneaking snacks while hiding from their friends again just close enough for the critter to latch on.
What they hadnt knows at the time either, was that the critters manage to survive on thr victim, even when the ability user isnt near, is because they then feed on the trauma that is brought up by them being latched onto that person.
Neither did they know that it is actualy an old family technique in oboras' family, that's been banned for a long time.
But when oboras told his parents over dinner, they dropped their cuttlery, everything going quiet except the slight sound still coming off of the fine plates from the dropped cutlery.
"Was anyone nearby?!" His father asks suddendly, looking mortified.
"I- i dont think so.." he answers his father, was anyone in the corridor? He heard footsteps, the sound of someone eating, maybe.
".-maybe.." he corrects.
His parents faces suddendly rid of colour, but certainly not of expression.
"Wich teacher was it?"
His mother inquires.
Oboras swallows. "Marabas sensei.."
"I'll call him right away" his father says as he abruptly leaves the table.
--
"Oh- oh no..
I-i'm also not so sure.. perhaps..
I- i'll make sure i'll find that out.
Yes- yes- i apologize, i shoudnt have-
No, really, i-
Yes, of course, i will."
The teachers in the teachers lounge all look at marbas, curious, and slightly angsty at thr lack of colour on his face.
"Did any students have a free period at 3?"
He suddendly asks, a bit shakily.
Everyone is quiet, untill a gloomy, irritated and slightly worried tone answers, kalego.
"My class did, why?"
Marbas swallows.
"I messed up, well, uhm- i might've, and it might be really really bad.." he admits, evrryone now slightly mortified, since marbs is the educator of torture methods, and messing up always means someone's dead.
"Please elaborate" kalego states.
Marbas looks down at his feet.
"Orbas had the bloodline bikity trauma, im sure we're all aware. I encouraged him to experiment with it-" deep breaths were heard throughout the unusualy quiet room.
"His abikity is made up of these tiny bugs that feed on the host, and i encouraged him to tey and let it move freely, let it choose its target. He did so, reluctantly.
It ran put the door into thr corridor.
Normqly, it disapears after a certain distance if it isnt latched onto anyone, but orbas thinks there might've been someone in the corridor, close enough for the bug to latch, he said he hears something.
Not only that, but aperantly it is a known method in his family, wich has bene banned for its side effects."
Barley any of the teachers woud be anle to voice their thoughts currently, except one.
"And since ny cladd was the only one that had a free period during it, you think one of those brats might be experiencing trauma, so to say." Kalego says, his voice steady as ever.
"Well, yes and no. It woud be one of them, yes, but it doesnt work.. like that.
It- it causes severe bodily distress, stomach achws ,headaches, vomiting, it can even cause blindness. Though that- that's a best case scenario, it- it can cause comas and- and even death.." there it was, rhe dreaded word everyone knew was associated with mistames brought on by torture classes, and suddendly, even kalego had trouble composing himself.
"W-well, maybe it was a mistake, maybe he's just anxious and convinced himself he heard something?" Kalego sounded much less confident than before.
"Maybe, i'd still like to- to inform the parents of your students and observe them, the effects can kick in delayed.."
The teachers lounge was pretty quiet, and so were the teachers dorms later that day.
--
Kalego woke up with an agonizing headache and the feeling of incredible fear and saddnes, mybe a bit of anger, too.
Odd, he thought, normaly its only anger and annoyance.
He tried to get ready, but the headache was too debilatating to bear it, not to mention he'd be teaching, he woud call in sick for the first time since- well, actualy ever.
Odd.
