Full-Naming Is Hard When Your Bro Only Has One Name

Summary:

It's an honest mistake.

AU-gust day 28 prompt: Catpeople

Notes:

This is a scene from a much larger fic that may not actually be included in that fic by the time I finish writing it. But I thought it was good enough to post for AU-gust.

Context: an AU where Klunk gets mutated and Mikey suddenly and unexpectedly becomes a teen dad. The Klunk you see here isn't his usual adorably kitty self, but a mutated cat child. Still adorable, but different proportions.

Work Text:

"Raphael Spinterson Hamato!"

Raph jolted up from the couch, where he had been peacefully napping up until his brother's angry voice rang through the lair. Looking around in confusion, he tried to rally his groggy brain cells to pinpoint where the shout had come from.

Stomping over in full mama-bear mode came Mikey, with a thunderous expression and Klunk perched on one hip. He stopped in front of the couch and started tapping one foot. "What do you have to say for yourself?"

Raph stared at him for a moment, then asked, "What'd you call me?"

"Look, I'm doin' my best with what I have to work with." Mikey jabbed a finger at him "Don't distract me! You're in big trouble, mister!"

"Fer what?" Raph demanded, annoyance starting to take over his previous confusion.

"For corrupting my sweet precious baby!"

Of course it was about the furry little gremlin. Raph should've guessed that. He gave his over-dramatic brother a flat look. "What?"

Mikey hefted Klunk a little higher on his hip and reached up to pet the top of his head. "Go on, baby, tell him what you said to me."

Klunk looked far too pleased with himself as he turned to Raph and let out a growly, "Shit!"

Raph stared at the boy, dumbfounded. Then a slow grin spread across his face and he looked up at Mikey. "Okay I see why you'd make that assumption, but it ain't me." Reaching up, he scratched under Klunk's chin and asked him, "Where'd ya hear that, ya li'l gremlin?"

"Hepin' Unca!" Klunk chirped happily.

"S'that so?" Raph grinned smugly. "An' which uncle would that be?"

Klunk threw his hands up in excitement. "Onny!"

"Heh, figured." Raph glanced up at Mikey's surprised face and said, "Don probably hurt himself while Klunk was watchin' 'im work. That's almost exactly what he sounded like when he dropped a wrench on his foot last week."

"Donny swears?"

"Wh-? 'Course he swears, shell-for-brains!" Raph paused before adding, "Just not around Master Splinter."

"Well how was I supposed to know?"

Raph raised a brow at him. "Ain't he ever burned himself with the blowtorch or dropped somethin' heavy while you were hangin' out?"

"Oh." Mikey smiled sheepishly. "He uh, usually stops doin' those things when I'm around."

"Huh. Yeah, that tracks, I guess." Raph scratched his cheek, then stretched as he yawned widely. "Anyway, it's the brainiac who corrupted your kid. Case closed. Can I get back to my nap?"

"Yeah, here watch Klunk a minute, I gotta go yell at Donny," Mikey answered absently, shoving his son onto Raph's lap.

Surprised out of his stretch, Raph flailed for a second but quickly wrapped his arms around his nephew. Klunk happily butted the top of his head against Raph's chin, making him chuckle reluctantly. "Don't supposed you'd be up to a nap, kid?"

Not bothering to exercise his limited vocabulary, Klunk tucked in close to Raph's plastron and started purring contentedly. Raph tilted his head down and found his nephew's eyes were closed, which was answer enough for him. Briefly tightening his hold to avoid jostling the boy too much, he laid back down on the couch and fell back asleep to the sound of Klunk's purrs.

"Donatello Splinterson Hamato!"

"Who?!"
