Chapter 1: An Uneventful Picnic

Chapter Text

It was no suprise that Yellow had liked Blue, in fact it was so obvious that everyone except Blue had noticed. He didn't know when or why he started to like him, it was difficult to lay a finger on. Yellow had always admired Blue, whether it be his cooking skills or how kind and understanding he was. He always had a way with words, and he somehow, always tried to remain calm despite what life threw at him. Today was the day where he was truly going to confess, and it had to be perfect. Nothing could go wrong, he had been putting this day off for months now and he definitely couldn't handle the constant mockery from his friends anymore.

He set an alarm, even though he always woke up on time, and began drafting his confession script. It needed to sound genuine and not at all rehearsed, but it being written as a script made it dificult. Yellow grabbed a pen and spun it around his fingers, ocassionally tapping the table in thought. The blank piece of paper sat on the desk, waiting to be written on.

Was Yellow the best with words? No. But that wasn't the point.

So what was his plan? Well, he was going to create a rollercoaster and at the very end was where he would confess his feelings. The only problem was the fact that he couldn't find the right words to accurately describe his feelings and he hadn't started building yet.

"Cursors..." Yellow groans into his hands. He slumped into his chair, looking up towards the ceiling. When did writing become so difficult? Yellow released the pen out of his grip, and it clattered on the wooden table. He quickly sat back up, elbows placed on the hardwood surface and his hands interlocked with one another trying his best to supress a frustrated sigh. How was he supposed to execute his plan?

Three knocks sounded at his door pulling Yellow out of his thoughts. "Yellow? Are you awake?" Red's voice came through on the other side. "Yeah, I am. What do you need?" Yellow asked.
The door opened and Red walks in, holding a small picnic basket. His shoes were slightly muddy, which made Yellow wince slightly as he continued to walk on the carpet. "Okay! I have this amazing idea, well it wasn't really my idea, but whatever! So I was thinking what if you had a picnic with Blue? Just one on one, nothing can go wrong. It would finally be your chance!" Red exclaimed, he was practically bursting with excitement. Yellow raised a brow, "My chance? What are you talking about." "Don't be silly, we all know you've been waiting for the right moment." Red jabs Yellow's chest. He proceeded to then pull out a bluberry. Yellow could practically feel his face reddening. "I already had something planned," He stammered. "Really? What is it?" Red questioned, he took another step forward, towards the table Yellow was seated at. He flicked his gaze at the blank sheet of paper and back at Yellow. "Is that supposed to be your plan?" "No! Obviously not, it's not finished yet." Yellow exclaimed. He got up and started pushing Red towards the door. "Alright... but the other guys have already told him that you had a suprise planned for him! Be down at 1, Blue will be waiting!! Don't. Mess. This. Up." Red made sure to put extra emphasis on the last few words. "Get outt!" Yellow shouted back, and slammed the door shut behind him. Red's obnoxious laugh echoed outside. He hated his friends. But if Blue was already expecting something there was no point bailing out. Once his door clicked shut he allowed gravity to pull him to the ground, however, its duties as a sturdy barrier would be put to the test when Yellow pressed his body against the surface of it. Yellow glanced at the perfectly assorted basket sitting on his bed. This was definitely Green and Purple's idea.

"Yellow has a suprise for you." Second said, leaning on the doorframe of his friend's room. A pungent smell filled the room and he scrunched his nose. "A surprise for me?" Blue asked, slightly tilting his head. "Yeah, something about a-" Second caught himself, and cleared his throat. "A what?" Blue asked again, stirring a mixture in his cauldron using a shovel, watching as the ingredients interwined with one another. "Well your gonna have to find out, its a surpise isn't it?" Second replied, turning around and walking back out towards Red's room. Before he disappeared he quickly called out, "Tell him I'll be there!" "Alright!" Second's voice answered back. Blue's heart skipped a beat, he wasn't sure if he should be excited or nervous. A surprise for him? What surprise could Yellow possibly have in mind? Blue walked over to the wooden chest, grabbing out a handful of items and popped more ingredients in the cauldron, I guess I will have to wait to find out.

Second, Red, Green, and Purple were all sat on the couch inside of Alan's PC. "Ha! Do you really think he could pull it off?" Red asks, he was feeding Reuben on the far end of the couch. It was mid day now, and everyone had been waiting for Yellow to finally stumble out of his room. "Sure he can, he's been waiting for months now right?" Second replies, swirling around his glass, balanced between his index and middle finger. A door slams shut and there are footsteps stamping down the stairs, all eyes turn towards the sudden noise. "Alright whose plan was this?" Yellow questions, his finger was already pointed straight towards both Green and Purple. His tie was tossed askew and his hair was ruffled. One hand occupied with the basket. Purple's hands shot up in surrender, "Don't point fingers at me, it was all his idea." He signals towards Green. "Yeah, it was my idea." Green shrugged casually.
"You never asked if I was okay with this!?" Yellow exclaimed. He was a hot mess, which was very unusual of him. Second chimed in quickly before the conflict could escalate. "It's about time though isn't it? How long has it been now? Weeks? Months? We just thought you needed a little push?"
Yellow let out a long sigh before quickly fixing his tie and hair. "How do I look?" He glanced desperately towards his friends for some sort of validation. They all grinned, gave him a small thumbs up and that was enough to soothe his nerves. "He'll be down soon, you got this okay?" Purple said, placing a reassuring hand on his shoulder.

"It was nice of you to invite me to a picnic, it's been awhile since we last hung out one on one." Blue hummed, he sat adjacent to Yellow on the red gingham mat. There was more food in that basket than Yellow had anticipated. Red must've went a little overboard. "Yeah haha, thanks for... comimg." He said, rubbing the back of his neck nervously. "I always have time for a friend, don't worry about it!" Blue took a bite of the sandwhich, briefly chewing it before glancing toward Yellow. "Aren't you going to eat?"

God, he was so nervous. Hopefully the sweat on his forehead wasn't visible to Blue.

"U-uh yeah!! Of course I will." Yellow sputtered out. The little basket filled to brim was begging Yellow to take something out of it. He reached forward to grab a ham and cheese sandwich — basic but whatever.

Should he confess right now? The atmosphere and the setting was perfect. His friends really set him up for success. There was no way he could mess this up!

Yellow took a sharp breath, metally hyping himself up, while also looking quite ridiculous. He opened and closed his mouth like a fish underwater. Blue did not seem to notice though.

Come on, come on! Just spit it out already.

"Blue! I have to tell you something." Yellow spat, already flushing. "Yes, Yellow?" He answered back, his full attention fixated on Yellow.

Its happening, the moment he was waiting for, it was really happening.

"I- I really appreciate you, you know? You mean so much to me and-" BOOM! A bright strike of lightning struck the ground near them. Yellow and Blue both glanced at eachother simultaneously eyes blown wide in shock. The rain came pouring down at the same time soaking both of them in an instant. Blue quickly jumped up on his feet, grabbing the basket. Yellow noticed and scooped up the mat rolling it into a loose ball and shoving it under his arm. They both sprinted towards the nether portal leading back to the other several portals, dogding the strikes of lightning and covering their heads with their handful of items occupying their hands. Once the rain had finally ceased above their heads, and they ran through the portal, they fell to the ground panting and wheezing.

"Oh-oh my god, I cannot believe we almost got struck by lightning like 5 times! Are you okay?!" Blue wheezed, a hand clinging on one side of the glowing nether portal.

He was laughing now, crawling towards a defeated looking Yellow.

He looked at Blue and smiled sheepishly "I'm exhuasted, but overall I'm alright you?"

Blue scoffed offering only a hand in return as he stood back up, dusting off the dirt on his pants.
"Come on, we barely ran! I'm fine though, better than you, thats for sure."

Yellow rolled his eyes, grabbing Blue's out stretched hand gratefully. "Funny, last I recalled you were the one wheezing and gasping for air." That managed to get a laugh out of Blue.

His laugh was so adorable.

Though Yellow quickly burried that thought, already flushing slightly in the cheeks.

"Well, the food has seen better days." Yellow inspected from the soaking wet cakes in the basket Blue was holding.
He only shrugged in reply, "That's a shame, we should give them to Red. He told me that he was planning on pranking the others. Maybe even Purple, since he didn't get to cake him last time!"

"Yeah, that sounds like a good idea." Yellow hummed, as they walked up the stone staircase towards the main portal used to travel between Alan's PC and the minecraft world.

"I can't wait for Yellow to come back and say 'Thanks you guys! Me and Blue are finally together thanks to you all, my amazing friends!' " Red exclaimed practically bouncing with excitement in his barn. Second stood next to him smiling in amusement. "I don't think he would word it like that but sure." He was leaning over the wooden fence watching as Red fed his handful of animals – way too many animals he must admit. Though he would never say it to Red's face.

"Want help?" Second offered, he wasn't the best with animals but he was sure that he could handle it! How hard could feeding a few cows and sheep be?

Unfortunately for him, he was very wrong – well kind of? The feeding part was easy but when they started multiplying rapidly that's when Second realised Red would come back with a few dozens more sheep and cow than he first had. Now that he was thinking about it, Red did mention something about waiting for the red hearts to go away before continuing to feed them. Shoot.

As they walked through the portal looking worse for wear and still slightly damp, they were greeted upon their friends. Blue seemed confused, tilting his head slightly as to why they had suddenly gained an audience.
"What's going on? Did I miss something?" He asked walking towards the couch and already plopping down, letting his entire weight sink into the cushions.
The others shared similar glances before Green spoke up, cutting the silence. "Oh nah, we were just waiting to see when you guys would come back. Purple had a movie night planned and was wondering if you guys were interested!" He winked at Purple, mouthing a "Play along".
"Uh yeah! We were setting it up right now actually, so feel free to join us!" Purple exclaimed, he seemed to perfectly undertand Green.
Yellow sighed, Green always had the perfect back up plan. He scoffed, Green really was a 'Jack of all trades', though he was thankful that Green saved him from the embarrassment of explaining himself to Blue.
"Uh huh, well count me in. Yellow, you coming too yeah?" Blue nodded, still skeptical but he let it slide.

Yellow was reeled out of his train of thought as Blue mentioned his name. He had completely forgotten that Blue was in the same room as him.
"Oh me? I'll be there too." He said, startled.

Red had turned up a moment later, walking up to Green and Purple. "Where's Second?" Purple asked, looking behind Red.
"Oh he said that he would help me feed the animals so he's in the barn right now, I just came to check up on-" Red's mouth was quickly muffled by Green's hand. "Haha!! Uh yeah! Checking up on the movie night?! Right Red!?" Green quickly exclaimed in a much higher pitched voice than usual. Blue was still on the couch eyebrow raised, "Okay... well, I have other things to do so I'll catch you guys later tonight! You better have some good movies selected!" He shouted before quickly disappearing up to his room.
"Ow!" Green held his hand in pain, wincing a little as Red had chomped on it. "What was that all about?!" He exclaimed, hands on his hips. Purple pressed his hands together. "We may have told a small lie."

"Okay okay, that doesn't matter. I don't care about that I only came down here to ask about Yellow. So did you confess to him or not? And also why are you half soaked in rain?" Red waved his hand in front of Green and Purple's face ushering Yellow to speak.

"Well, I didn't get the chance to?" Yellow said, preparing for the disappointed looks on his friends faces.

Red groaned in annoyance, "Everything was perfect! What happened?"

"Well, it started raining, then we nearly got struck by lightning so we ran, and now we are here?" Yellow narrated.

"The food also got wet and the cake also got wet but..." He leaned in a little closer to Red's ear, "We saved it so you could cake the others? I'm not sure if that makes anything better, but uh yeah?"

Red shrugged. "I guess, but oh well its fine, don't worry about it you have next time!" He gave Yellow's shoulder a reassuring squeeze. Purple stood next to Green, a smile tugging the corner of his lips in amusement. Green was also supressing a laugh though he looked more constipated than composed.

"RED!!!" A LITTLE HELP PLEASE?!" Second's voice called, echoeing through the barn. "Uh oh, I gotta go check this out, see you guys later!" Red exclaimed, before quickly sprinting towards the barn where his footsteps faded away.

There was a pang of disappointed in his heart, though he remained hopeful. Maybe this wasn't the right time. He still had his first plan anyway.

The movie night did actually end up happening to Yellow's surpise, his friends really worked their magic to put this all together in such a short amount of time.

Second came out of the kitchen holding two gaint plates full of popcorn, the smell of butter filling the air as soon as the door swung open on its hinges. The couch was quite small now that Yellow thought about it, small for six sticks that is. As they were all ushered to keep their voices down due the movie starting Yellow found himself sitting alot closer to Blue than he had imagined. One bowl was sprawled between Yellow, Blue and Red and the other was with Second, Purple and Green.

Purple actually has pretty good movie recommendations. To think that all of this was just an excuse is hilarious, Yellow couldn't help but let a smile creep onto his face. He probably looked insane, smiling during the supposedly saddest part of the entire movie.

He reached over and grabbed a handful of popcorn, accidently brushing hands with Blue. He immediently froze, pulling his hand away quickly and turning away. Blue did the same, though Yellow had not noticed the flustered look on his face.

He did not just do that, did he?

Yellow turned to face the other side of the couch where he saw Second dozing off. Second has never watched a movie without falling asleep at some point, it was amusing. Red seemed to notice and looked towards Second aswell, pulling the blanket on top of him.

At some point during the third movie everyone had started to get quite restless, and Yellow found himself in a situation where Blue was snoring, his head on his shoulder, nuzzling against the fluffly fabric of the blanket.

Yellow watched as his chest rise and fall slowly, a warm smile plastered onto his face.

Somehow, Green, Purple and Yellow were the only ones left awake. Which was strange because normally Red would be wide awake, shoving handfulls of popcorn into his mouth, not a single thought behind those eyes. Eventually Purple finally turned off the projector and just sat on the couch in the quiet darkness of the night.
"I cannot be bothered to move right now."
He whispered carefully taking the 2 bowls of popcorn off of the couch. Green offered a small nod those no one saw because of the dark. What an idiot!
"Same." Green answered.
"Yellow? Yellow? Hello are you awake?" Purple asked.
"Uh yeah, I am." He replied, barely above a whisper.
"Well we are just gonna sleep on the couch?" Purple said prompting Yellow for an answer.
"I guess I will sleep here too then."

To say the least, sleeping on the couch was a horrible idea — especially with 6 sticks cramped onto one small couch.

Yellow woke up with horrible back pain, not enough sleep and regret.
