Summary:

The city pulses. Crowds flow. Traffic starts and stops. Millions of human lives hum along, stacked on top of each other in their glass and concrete towers, squeezed in side by side on the metro, rushing and scrambling from place to place, moment to moment, each one inevitably hurtling towards death. Rem finds them vile; disgusting, selfish creatures; food for Shinigami. Food for worms. They fill their brief time with false meaning, obsessions, devotions, aspirations. And what's it for? In the end they all die, each and every one. They should be honoured to be her prey. 

But there's one human she finds herself inexplicably drawn to: Amane Misa, so beautiful; even her name fills Rem with indescribable pleasure.
