Willow finishes braiding Buffy's hair, then digs her hands in and gently shakes it all loose again. She doesn't want long hair herself, but it's fun to play with, and it's - well, it's Buffy. Playing with Buffy's hair makes her happy and sad and other things she can't quite put her finger on yet.
Maybe it's that Buffy is so pretty, and could easily be one of the popular girls, so Willow having a sleepover with her is a little miraculous. It makes Willow feel special, somehow, and she likes that feeling; she's mostly afraid that it can't possibly last.
