The Ultimate Petekey Masterdoc

Summary:

Long ago, the wonderful internet user 'crucios' made the original Petekey masterdoc that probably led you to reading fics under this tag. However, that og doc has long since become outdated, lacking current events, necessary context, and additional relevant information.

I have taken it upon myself to continue the good work of crucios by creating the most complete, comprehensive, and informative Petekey masterpost to date. I've also expanded on certain topics where I felt necessary to make the content more beginner-friendly.

For reference: the crucios masterdoc is 50 pages. This one is 174.

Feel free to use this for any Petekey-related needs, and have fun!

Hi all! So for some context: I figured out what a "petekey" was last year, and suffice to say it sent me down the most insane rabbit hole I've probably ever fallen into. Not only did I read the OG masterdoc by crucios, but I also went through a bunch of others. I was never really big into bandom or RPF as a whole, but boy howdy is that not the case anymore.

However, as I was going through the multiple masterdocs and primers that exist, I noticed that many of them were missing what felt like relevant information. Each one I went through had lots of pieces of the puzzle, but not all of them (whatever all of them would even be...). Even the crucios post wasn't fully up to date, as they stopped editing it back in 2018.

in the midst of this deep dive, it seemed a sleeper cell of investigative journalists was activated within me. I took it upon myself to take each piece of information from every doc I could find, and compile them all into one.

It's amazing what a hyperfixation can make people do. I think I spent more time researching this than my entire BFA thesis. Essentially what I did is take the original document, copy paste it into my own, and then work straight on top of it. Much of the credit for this still goes to crucios, wherever they are...

But not only did I compile other docs, I also did a deep dive into the recesses of the internet to find more information of my own. Are internet liminal-spaces a thing? Because that's what it feels like looking at a LiveJournal page from 2006 that no one has probably opened in years.

And on top of my own research, I also added more relevant context and expanded on things where I felt necessary in order to make the doc more beginner-friendly.

I'm not sure if anyone will even see or read this, I just really needed to get it off my shoulders so that I can sleep at night lol. That being said, if you DO read it and happen to come across any info that you know to be incorrect, or if you have more info that you feel I should add, please let me know! I plan to keep updating this if anything comes my way, or new developments are made.

  • or, okay I could go on, but this is basically a (hopefully) comprehensive and mostly chronological timeline of the widely speculated ~~~relationship~~~ between Pete Wentz and Mikey Way: aka they were boyfriends and this is why (pretty sure 98% of bandom agrees that Pete/Mikey were canon but for the other 2%  heed this WARNING: SUPER TIN-HATTY)

THE PREFACE

(Most of this document is lifted straight from the original masterpost by crucios ((inshallah they shall make it into the pearly gates for doing the lord’s work 🙌)) and so I must give them most of the credit. I have edited, condensed, and expanded as necessary to keep everything up to date and to add more context where I feel necessary. Everything else that isn’t from the crucios masterpost has been taken from a ton of different sources, which are all linked at the end.

 

I am going to try and keep a lot of this as objective as possible ((minus obvious jokes and shenanigans, of course)). This post is already tin-hatty by nature, but I’m only going to delve into the really conspiratorial stuff if I truly believe it to be relevant. Otherwise, I make sure to note if certain sources aren’t confirmed, aren’t necessarily trustworthy, or if I’m just stating my PERSONAL opinion. I believe in HONEST JOURNALISM, people. Well, as honest as something like this can get.)

WORDKEY

This is for anyone who might be new to a lot of this information (as I was at first) so that way you’re not COMPLETELY lost on all the context and acronyms:

 

  • Fall Out Boy (FOB): an American alternative pop-punk group, consisting of Patrick Stump, Pete Wentz, Andy Hurley, and Joe Trohman

 

  • My Chemical Romance (MCR): an American alternative-rock group, consisting of Gerard Way, his brother Mikey Way, Frank Iero, Ray Toro, and–briefly–Bob Bryar (RIP Bob he’s looking up at us 😪)

 

  • Petekey: the ship between Pete Wentz, FOB’s bassist, and Mikey Way, MCR’s bassist

 

  • Warped Tour: a touring rock music festival that toured the United States and Canada each summer from 1995 until 2019, and returned in 2025 for its 30th anniversary. By 2015, Warped was the largest traveling music festival in the United States and the longest-running touring music festival in North America

 

  • Summer of Like: this is the phrase used to refer to the time period (summer of 2005) that Pete Wentz and Mikey Way were allegedly in a relationship together. It is believed to be a play on “summer of love.” The phrase originates from the fact that the FOB song Bang the Doldrums (a song very widely believed to be about Mikey) was originally titled Summer of Like

 

  • HeyChris: this refers to Chris Gutierrez, a long time friend and former band mate of Pete’s. He is a mutual friend of both FOB and MCR. The name “HeyChris” comes from FOB’s song Grenade Jumper, which Chris later adopted for himself to use for social media handles and such

 

  • Fueled by Ramen (FBR): an American record label owned by Warner Music Group and distributed by Atlantic Music Group. FOB and many other popular bands in the same scene (such as Paramore, P!ATD, TØP) were signed to them at one point. Pete also had a blog on their official website

 

  • LiveJournal (LJ): a Russian-owned social networking service where users can keep a blog, journal, or diary. It was very popular back in the early 2000’s, and was among the many sites where Pete kept an active journal

 

  • Friendsorenemies (FOE): the name of one of Pete’s many blog pages

 

  • Fall Out Boy Rocks (FOBR): a FOB website where Pete had another blog

 

  • Clandestine Industries: a clothing brand started and owned by Pete. Many of the pieces include the iconic “Bartskull” logo that Pete designed himself. Bartskull = bat + heart + skull
