Chapter Text
Chuuya blinked at the sudden sound of his phone ringing so late at night. It was 21:00 and Chuuya was sure none of his friends would contact him right now. He had just been preparing for bed after finishing up his usual nightly routine which consisted of studying, a quick, sorry dinner, and a shower.
He stared at the name on his phone, which was thick white letters that read “Dazai” with the classic blue fish emoji.
He groaned in frustration, which soon plummeted into a groan of shyness and embarrassment, as he swiped right to accept the incoming call. “What do you want?” He growled, albeit weakly since he actually wasn’t dreading this call.
Dazai was relaxing in his dorm, bored to his core. He didn’t feel the need to study, after all, he was very humbly a genius.
His phone was resting atop his nightstand, before his bandaged arm reached out and grabbed it up. He suddenly had a wonderful idea.
Recently, Dazai had his eye on a certain ginger that was in his English Language class, a required course, apparently. He would notice the redhead rushing out of the class, despite the university hall closing after that session. Which meant, there was no classes he needed to rush to. Unless there was a different reason, which Dazai doubted because it was every single day.
It was possible that Chuuya was simply a huge homebody, Dazai suggested to himself one evening, but he didn’t want to believe it. He wanted to believe his crush had a secret identity, a secret life that no one knew about. He was being dramatic.
Or at least, that’s what anyone else in any other place would think. Dazai often reassured himself that it was very likely, because in the city of Yokohama, everything was for some reason unusual.
They had a normal police force just like anyone else, but they also had a super natural force that patrolled the city and helped people in need from 13:00 to 19:30. On average, at least. It changed often, especially on the weekends.
Many wonder where this person came from, and why they have the abilities they do. It is weird, Dazai admits, to be able to shoot webs from your finger tips.
Dazai has a few pages from a notebook that hold notes he’s gathered since he met Chuuya, and since he started really paying attention to Spider-Man. The supernatural being who has saved many people in Yokohama, and who knows, he might’ve saved an entire city elsewhere.
Dazai went as far as to print out pictures from interviews, news footage, article photos, etc. He draws lines to study the shape of Spider-Man’s body. His sinewy waist, his toned legs visible even through the suit, same with his toned arms. He had a somewhat smaller head, though it was obvious he was older than eighteen. His height, on the other hand, made Dazai second guess himself. Information was limited on Spider-Man, Dazai assumed it was to protect his identity.
He calculated his height would be around five foot three. Eight inches shorter than Dazai. Dazai drew a line at five foot three on his wall, and another at his height of five foot eleven. The height difference was familiar, Dazai thought.
Also on his notebook pages, Dazai creepily collected information on Chuuya. It wasn’t totally creepy. It was his school schedule, which was somewhat normal to know, considering they were friends now. His after school routine was sort of a mystery to Dazai. All he knew was every day he rushed home, and every night he prepared to be in bed by 21:00. Between 13:00 and around 19:30, Chuuya’s life was a mystery.
When he saw Chuuya in person, he would very casually trail his eyes up and down the redhead’s small yet lean body. The height difference was familiar to that of what was on Dazai’s wall. His waist was also sinewy, his legs and arms beautifully toned— this is an investigation, not admiration.
After more thinking, pestering Chuuya’s weirded out friends about what he does in this time Dazai doesn’t know, he came to a beautiful conclusion.
Spider-Man is none other than Chuuya Nakahara.
October 9, 2019 Chuuya sat alone in a small coffee shop on campus. He mindlessly ran his fingers over the lid of his to-go cup, waiting for his coffee to cool before he could take a sip of it. This was his break between his classes. He would always find something to fill this time that didn’t involve going back to his dorm, and of course, patrolling the city. There was not enough time for that.
Ever since Chuuya became Spider-Man, he had barely any free time. Well, he supposes swinging around the city using webs that shot from his figertips was pretty damn fun, but that was also his job now. That he wasn’t necessarily getting paid for, but, oh well. What are you gonna do?
He concluded his drink was probably cooled down enough to drink. He lifted the cup to his lips, took a slow sip, feeling as the steam rose through the small hole and warmed his face. He glanced around, and in the middle of his sip he noticed a familiar brunette walking by the window of the shop.
He choked and nearly spit out his drink, but somehow managed to skillfully hold it in his mouth and swallow it. It was still hot, he thought. I’m definitely not physically reacting to the beautiful being who just walked by this coffee shop and isn’t coming inside—
The door to the coffee shop gleefully swung open, alerting the cashiers and baristas at the counter was the sound of a bell.
Chuuya ducked his head slightly but not to obviously, trying to go unnoticed by the brunette. After a solid ten seconds, he lifted his head and let out a breath, concluding that Dazai hadn’t noticed him and simply went to order coffee.
”Hi, Chuuya, I didn’t know you liked this coffee shop.” Came a sudden, familiar, and smooth voice. Chuuya hesitantly looked up, refusing to be rude and deny eye contact but also dreading Dazai seeing his already slightly flushed face.
”Hey, Dazai, yeah… I come here often,” Chuuya responded, and watched as the brunette slipped into the booth across from him without getting anything from the front counter. “i didn’t know you came here.”
”Of course I do! Everyone does, silly.” Dazai snickered, making himself comfortable and looking at Chuuya.
Chuuya wasn’t going to entertain that, and choose a different conversation. “Well— Wait, then why are you surprised I’m here?!” Chuuya cursed himself, silently calling himself every name that was conjoined with stupid under the sun. The bastard was messing with him.
Chuuya expected him to make fun of him for not realizing, but Dazai just laughed, like— really laughed. Chuuya was enamoured with the sight. Dazai’s eyes squeezed tight with amusement, as he lifted a delicate hand to cover his mouth while he laughed joyfully.
Jesus, Chuuya was in love.
“It’s fine, Chuuya. You looked lonely, so I thought I could join you.” Dazai said, his laughter dying back down to his usual smooth voice.
”I guess you can stay… I won’t be here for much longer, though.” Chuuya replied, averting his gaze and settling it onto his coffee cup.
After that, they fell into a surprisingly smooth and easy conversation. Dazai talked the most, rambling on about whatever caught his attention.
Chuuya, on the other hand, was… well, he was not fully there. But who could blame him? Dazai was so unbelievably handsome. His soft lips, his perfectly shaped nose and literally every other facial feature of his, his fluffy brown hair that was just perfectly disheveled, Chuuya could go on. Though, it was his mission to admires Dazai’s effortlessly perfect looks, all the while paying enough attention that if there was a pop quiz he would surely pass.
Chuuya’s gaze shamelessly trailed down Dazai’s face, to his neck, which was—
“Chuuya?”
So much for paying attention just enough.
”Sorry, I zoned out. What was that last bit?”
”You zoned out staring at my face? My, Chuuya thinks I have good looks!” Dazai exclaimed playfully.
”What— No! I wasn’t— I mean, you have good looks but that’s not why I— Ugh! Just— Leave it. What were you saying?” Wow, Chuuya, way to be nonchalant.
Dazai laughed once more, and once more Chuuya was caught onto it. He felt Cupid’s bow shoot right through his pounding heart.
Present “What do you want?” Chuuya huffed as a greeting, weakly, considering he was slightly looking forward to his call.
”Chuuya! Is this any way to greet your friends?” Dazai said through the phone, his animatics clear. He should’ve been a theatre major.
”…Sorry. What’s up?” Chuuya froze the second the words left his mouth. He was always known as the boisterous boy during all of his school years and even at home. No one managed to get close to his heart, aside from his family. He had his best friends, but he would never tune it down for them . Damn it, Chuuya had a soft spot that was steadily growing, for none other than Dazai Osamu, his campus crush.
