Summary
On April 1st, Aslan Callenreese arrives in Japan beneath a sky scattered with cherry blossoms—and immediately becomes the subject of everyone’s attention. Everyone, except perhaps Eiji Okumura: a near-sighted pole vaulter with a camera around his neck, a sharp tongue, and the unfortunate belief that Aslan has been glaring at him. Between crowded campus paths, athletic fields, photographs, and the slow turning of the seasons, Ash begins to learn that being seen does not always mean being watched. Aslan is an overwhelmed, nervous wreck; he had constantly had attention without necessarily needing to plea, yet this meeting has sent him scrambling, far into the depths of his enamoring self; he has always wanted to be free. Faced with a man, out of the bounds necessarily tying him to Earth’s gravitational pull, he is confronted with the very motivation that had urged him to leave home.
