There’s no other way to say it, but Earth was honestly bored.
There was truly nothing to do.
Mars was busy playing with his moons, Venus was doing his normal grumpy sulking routine, and we all know that Earth can’t go anywhere near Mercury’s orbit.
Mercury’s orbit is way too hot for him, and Sun might almost have a core attack if he saw Earth going towards him again.
He couldn’t talk to Astrodude because he was back on his surface with his wife and kid, and the outer solar system planets are up to something else.
Especially Jupiter and Saturn, they were busy doing their own thing as usual.
Well, at least he has Luna to hang out with, but wait? Luna’s in their correct orbit, sleeping and orbiting him like normal. He doesn’t want to wake them up as they are sleeping. Everyone knew that Luna needed the sleep, when orbiting a planet like Earth.
Earth sighed with genuine boredom.
…wait. He totally forgot! He could just talk to Sun!
Luckily, Sun looked to be pretty bored, and that gave Earth an idea. Might be a bad idea, but it’s still an idea to cure that boredom, and maybe Sun’s too.
He looked to Sun with a gleeful look in his eye and yelled out. “Hey Sun!” he flinched when he realized that he might’ve been too loud and woke up Luna.
He then looked over to where Luna was sleeping and breathed a sigh of relief when he saw that they were still blissfully unaware of how loud their planet was.
Sun looked up when he heard Earth call out to him.
“Yes, Earth?” He answered, curious as to what Earth wanted. Nothing life-threatening, he hopes, but knowing Earth, there’s always something going on with that planet of his.
Earth is very well, one of the planets that definitely keeps him on his toes and might be one of the first planets to give him a legit core attack.
“Want to hear a joke!?” Earth asked as he started to grin. Oh no!
Oh, so nothing life-threatening then. Just a joke to tell. Nothing wrong with that. Sun likes jokes.
He knows that Sun likes those types of puns/jokes, and honestly, he was pretty bored with no one to talk to.
Sun was probably the best option that was there right now, even though he and his star both never really talked all that much. But, as of late, they both started to talk a lot more to each other. They realized that they both liked jokes!
When Sun heard that question, he didn’t think he had ever smiled that brightly in his life. A joke always brightens his day. It makes him shine.
Mercury groaned. Oh no, Earth’s got that mischievous but gleeful look in his eye, and Mercury doesn’t have to be next to Earth to see that boredom has hit the one planet that doesn’t need to be bored in the slightest.
Hopefully, the jokes won’t be too astronomically horrible.
As Mercury looks like he’s taking it better, Venus looks like he wants to crash into Earth, but since he can’t crash into his orbital neighbor, he’s giving Earth the death glare instead and mumbling swears under his breath.
“Solar me with them,” Sun said, beaming with his full attention to the third planet from him.
“Okay, how can you tell if the ocean is friendly?” Earth asked, as he started off an ocean joke as his first joke to tell his star.
“How?” Sun answered, curiously wondering where this joke was going.
He saw that Earth was trying to control himself from bursting out with laughter, so the joke must be funny. But probably, knowing Earth, it could be anything.
“It waves!” Earth said as he laughed at his own joke.
He looked over to Sun, still processing the joke, and then his straight face morphed into laughter.
Sun laughed loudly. “Hah! Waves! Now that’s kind of funny!”
“Want to hear another one, Sun?” Earth asked, now excited that his star wants to actually join in the joke session.
"Are you sure that you’re not going to get burned out with all of these jokes?” Sun jokingly asked.
The two promptly busted into laughter while the rocky planets that were between them groaned very loudly.
“Nope! In fact, I’m just now warming up!” Earth chuckled. Sun, on the other hand, let out another loud laugh at the silly wordplay that Earth had just done.
“Okay so, what did the ground say to the earthquake?” Earth asked.
“Oh? What did the ground say? ” wondered Sun.
“You crack me up!”
The two laughed again.
“I have one! What did the star say to the other star?” Sun asked jokingly.
“What? What did the other star say?” Earth curiously wondered.
“Did you get a suntan because you are shining!” Sun joked, smiling wide and proud of the star joke that he made.
Earth shook his head and smiled at Sun’s silly joke. It was bad but also funny.
“Hey Sun, what is another fancy name for a sun fart? Earth said as he tried to cover his mouth while he snickered.
Sun raised his eyebrow. Wonder what the answer to this joke could be? Why sun fart? Sun can’t fart?
“A solar flare!” Earth giggled as he didn’t even realize the disgusted look on the others’ faces.
“Booo!” Mercury and Venus both said in unison, with both of their thumbs down. Bad joke! Horrible joke!
Sun pinched the bridge of his nose and sighed. “I’m sorry, Earth, but that joke was horrible.”
But after he looked at Earth looking so proud because of his sun joke, Sun couldn’t help but smile a little. “But you did try your best, so that counts for something.”
Not wanting to leave off on a bad note and keep the joke train going, Sun came up with another joke.
“Oh! Oh! I have a better one!” Sun shouted excitedly.
“What is my favorite day?
Earth already knew this one, but he still asked anyway. “What is it? What’s your favorite day?”
“Sunday!” Sun laughed.
Hours go by, and the two were on fire with the puns and the jokes. It was truly groundbreaking. No one could stop them in their shining moment.
But before Earth or Sun could fire up another joke, Earth heard the sounds of someone finally waking up and looked over to see that it was indeed Luna who had finally awakened from their sleep cycle.
Earth held up a finger to Sun to signal, "Wait," since he wanted to check on his moon first.
“Rise and shine, Luna,” Earth said after he got closer to his moon and faced them and smiled wide after seeing that his moon had finally awoken.
After seeing that their planet was in a good mood, they smiled, but as they took a glance at the other planets, they saw Mercury covering his face with his hands in defeat while Venus had the look of murder on their face.
They then looked back at their planet, who looked proud as all day, not even realizing that he did something wrong.
Yep! Earth definitely did do something!
Knowing their planet, Earth was definitely up to no good, like annoying someone or doing some dumb shit. Could be both, could be just one, or just maybe none. Hopefully none.
“What are you doing, Earth? Luna asked with a hint of curiosity. What could have their planet done this time to solicit such a reaction from Mercury, but for Venus, it could’ve been anything that Earth had done to set Venus off.
“Oh, you know, I’m just in a very punny mood today, I guess,” Earth said, beaming radiantly towards his moon after saying something that stupid and silly.
Of course, of course, their planet is making puns and telling jokes again.
Luna then sighed internally, watching their planet brainstorm more ideas that he could think of to further make Mercury and Venus cringe with puns and jokes.
“You’re telling jokes again, aren’t you? Luna said as they crossed their arms and raised an eyebrow towards their planet, but at the same time they couldn’t help but have a twinge of a smile on their face.
Earth looked away, but his giddy smile said what all Luna needed to know.
Luna could only give Earth a deadpan look.
“Yeesh, tough crowd I see. Well, don’t worry, I still love you to the moon and back anyway,” Earth chuckled after making another pun towards his moon. It was a nice pun, but by the stars, it was dumb.
Luna could only shake their head and smile at their planet’s antics.
“Hey Luna?” Earth called out to them, slightly smiling.
"Yes, Earth?” Luna responded, returning the same expression to their planet but with one of their eyebrows raised again.
“Why did the cow look at the moon?” Earth asked jokingly.
Luna raised their eyebrow but didn’t object, so Earth continued on with his joke.
“For mooo-tivation,” Earth couldn’t help but chuckle at his silly joke answer.
Before Luna could even say anything else, Earth fired up another joke.
“Okay, okay, I have another one.” “Why did the moon go to jail?”
“And why?” Luna asked. They don’t remember going to jail? Is there even any jail in space?
“Because it had a dark side and kept mooning people,” Earth answered as he chuckled at such a dumb joke.
“I’m going to crash into him just for that dumb joke,” DSOTM said to Luna in their mindscape.
“…Please don’t,” Luna tiredly sighed to DSOTM. Even though their planet’s jokes are dumb and silly, they really don’t want Dark to crash into Earth or well, use their body to crash into him.
DSOTM definitely wouldn’t go through with it because they knew it would devastate Luna, and when it comes to the earthlings and Earth, the threat was only all bark and no bite.
DSOTM groaned, ”…fine.”
“Thank you.”
“Okay, this one will be the final one," Earth promised. This is the last joke, so he has to make this one count.
“Okay, so, how do you make a moon laugh?” Earth asked.
“How?” Luna answered with their arms crossed, with a small smirk plastered across their face.
“Tell it a “crater” joke!” Earth smiled as he continued to watch any change in Luna’s expression for any sign of laughter.
At long last, out of all the silly jokes, Luna couldn’t help but chortle at their planet’s last attempt at a joke. It was silly, but funny. Sue them. Earth smiled and triumphed as he got his moon to laugh.
“Even though they were kind of funny, Venus has been giving you the death glare for a while now,” Luna said, pointing to Venus like he was close to going on a murder spree on a certain planet with life.
Dang, Earth had so much fun telling jokes he honestly didn’t even notice that Venus had the look of murder on his face this whole entire time.
“Ohh, so that’s why I’ve been feeling the look of murderous intent on me,” Earth said, rubbing the back of their neck sheepishly but still smiling like he wasn’t even sorry in the slightest for making Venus suffer from listening to many silly jokes for hours.
Luna didn’t even bother to comment on Earth’s evil little smile because they knew that their planet wasn’t sorry in the slightest. At least Earth finally stopped burning through jokes like they were nothing now.
Earth then looked past Venus and Mercury to look at Sun and saw that he was in a better mood than he was before, but it seemed that he moved on to other things so he didn’t barrage Sun with more jokes for now.
“I guess that I shouldn’t soil their mood any longer, hehe.”
“Earth!”
“Sorry!”
