Summary
Sitting there, on the cusp of sixteen, in that collection of borrowed belongings, Adam felt as if another layer of un-belonging had been lacquered onto his skin. He was apart from everything. Not meant to belong to quiet Henrietta or his mother in their beater car, waiting for him outside the gates to the parking lot, but also not meant for the tall wood bookshelves and stained glass of the reading-library at Aglionby.
Thankfully, outside his knowledge, there were others, watching and falling in love with the way Adam seemed to outline every space he was in.
