I Won't Say I'm In Love

Summary:

| "Who'd ya think you're kidding? He's the earth and Heaven to ya! Try to keep it hidden, honey we can see right through ya! (Oh nooooooooooooooo!)"

The queen bee of Westerberg never saw herself as the romantic type, quite the opossite, especially around nerds...

So why the hell are you all she can think about nowadays?!

Work Text:

Heather Chandler was sitting in the cafeteria like usual, she was totally, entirely, without a shadow of a doubt, undeniably, completely fine, thank you very much!

...Or was she?

She just couldn't help herself. How could she when you had the audacity to look so goddamn dorky and perfect at the same time?! It made her jaw clench and her cheeks flush, it was ridiculous.

"Heather? HEATHER!" Heather Duke called out, as the blonde instantly returned to reality.

"ShutupHeatherI'mtotallynormal!" She rattled off, face as red as ever. (And as her blazer)

"What? Noone was talking about that, we were just asking if 6 PM was good for the mall trip." Duke replied, a quizzical look on her face.

"Oh, yeah, that's good." She replied, Veronica chuckled.

"What's wrong, Heather? You don't seem to be "completely normal". It couldn't be that you're blushing, right?~"

"Ooh, ooh, ooh!-" Heather McNamara perked up. "-Who is it? Tell us!"

The "Demon Queen" planted her hand onto the cheerleader's face, now blushing harder.

"Shut up! I'm not in love with anyone!"

Duke tried to follow where Chandler's view once was before realizing something that made her have to stifle a laugh.

"Oh my God. You're not in love with [READER], are you?"

"SHUT UP, HEATHER! I-i just... Think they'd be an easy target!" Heather Chandler desperately barked out.

"Awwwhhhhh, it's okay! You two would make such a good couple!" The yellow Heather reassured.

"Besides, either way you're still head-over-heels for them at the end of the day, so you might as well admit it. Besides, who knows? They might just like you back~" Veronica teased.

Chandler put her head in her hands, sure she would start emitting steam if she had to deal with a second longer of this.

"Oh my God... I hate all of you..." She groaned out, much to everyone's amusement.

"If that makes you feel better about yourself..." Duke responded smugly now that she finally had the upper hand.

Later that night, half an hour or so after she had wrapped up her evening routine, Heather Chandler was lying down in bed, though she was not going to be sleeping any time soon. Her mind kept returning to that dreaded lunch period, more specifically to the source of her distraction.

Your hair, your shirt, your dumb smile, she hated it. She hated how much she loved you. With a sigh that could bring down civilizations she got up from her bed and went over towards the phonebook, scanning over every number until she found it: "[READER L/N]".

With butterflies in her stomach she walked over to her landline phone and began shakily dialing your number, then she waited.

Ringggg, ringggg, ringggg...

"Uh, hello, who is this?"

"Heather... Chandler. Uh, are you free tomorrow after school?"

"Uh, w-what? Why? No offense."

"Iii just- think you could use my help to be a bit less of a loser..." She said, trying to cover up her real feelings.

"Uhhhh, I'll... Try to see if I'm free, alright? Uh, see you tomorrow."

"Uh, goodbye, see you then."

Click.

She let out a breath, slowly walking back to her bed, feeling as if a load had been taken off her chest as she muttered to the ceiling those three words that she wished she could say to you without having to worry about her reputation.

"I love you..."

"At least out loud, I won't say I'm in looooooovvvvvveeeeeeeee... (Shoo-doo, Shoo-doo, Sha-la-la-la-la-la, ahhhhhhhhhh...)"
