Work Text:
“Where is the justice?” Lettuce_K thought as he saw civilization after civilization fall, as he saw hundreds of people dying, his friends, neighbours, even strangers. Just crashed under the thumbs of those who couldn't bring themselves to care about anything.
Why do innocent people suffer worst fates so the bad can live on and see another day?
Why can't they just lock them up and throw away the key?
The ideas, the anger spiraling in his mind as he tells people.
Looking for the people who know, who understand. There are many.
They know that the world where the strongest rule is the world where the weak have to hide.
And Lettuce isn't gonna hide anymore. He thinks as he presents his prize to the crowd.
“Show me what’s right about the wrongs that we allow
Real people need to feel protected here and now;
This whole damn system’s broken way beyond repair
We need someone newer
Someone who knows how to handle the blame
Someone who is me!
Vote me for the king, the leader
And I'll put an end to this, this menace right there and ones hiding from our reach” Says Caracal, feeling the eyes of thousands on him. In this particular moment feeling strong. He feels fear of those who know they are next, and…it doesn't feel wrong. Not at all.
Maybe along the way it became a more stable feeling. Consistent in his life.
Lettuce can't help but ignore the weak who ask for his assistance. They don't understand. He has to catch Wemmbu. He has to. That's just the right thing to do. He tells Ace. He tells him to get rid of people coming to him, if they are not willing to fight the damn pirates.
“What about the victims
Waiting for some justice?
How can we turn away
And say that's just the way things are?
What about the families
Hiding in their houses
All of them afraid to walk the street at night
With all their doors locked tight
Tell me where is the justice
If there's any justice, "the Deputy argues. Disobeying? Misunderstanding.
“Justice will be served
As the predator stops roaming free
People will be safer
It just takes a little more
Than arresting a robber
From the Sesame Street” Lettuce answers, focusing on the strike cannon. Sometimes you gotta make rough decisions. Killing hundreds of pirates…it's their fault for supporting a tyrant.
Ace didn't answer, just looked at the sky behind the darkened glass of his room.
It looked peaceful, almost unnatural in the world full of war.
Even covered in deathly rings of explosion there was something magical about it. That's what Ace would probably say - Lettuce thought looking at the group before him. Fighting outnumbered, for what? Just because they can't be held responsible?
Now, with thousands of people on his command. Lettuce never felt more weak.
They were gone in the blink of an eye, and now he was standing before the same people who he once judged, as the accused.
He couldn't help but feel bitter. All that, all friends HE sacrificed, the lives HE deemed worthless, went for nothing. Just so he would again be on mercy of the strong.
He was a puppet all along, thrown into things by his anger. Never making real change.
“So change,
I believe there is a little part of you capable of changing Flame.
I won't beg, it wouldn't make a difference.
But for the good of this server, for the souls lost on it. Change. Your ways, your life, anything. Just don't leave me, knowing this all was for nothing. That Wemmbu will just destroy civilization after civilization. You don't need to be another mistake in society “ now, Lettuce never was a man to ask. But at this moment. Looking at the blindfolded man he saw hope. And he wasn't the one to get rid of it, not anymore.
