I will always love you

Summary:

"Who are you being again?" Will asks, walking into the kitchen. He already knows the answer, but this is all part of his plan.

Mike looks up from his list, narrowing his eyebrows in confusion. "Love, I've told you, like, a million times: Michael Myers."

Will nods, standing next to Mike and wrapping an arm around his waist. He skims over the list, then pushes his nerves away, deciding to just do it already.

"Or..." Will starts, taking his hand away from Mike and using it to pull the box out of his pocket. He kneels down on one knee, looking up at the man he's been dating for the past five years. "Michael Byers?"

Or...
Will proposes to Mike on Halloween

Work Text:

Halloween has always been special for Will and Mike. It's always been one of their favorite holidays.

When they were little kids, Nancy and Jonathan would take them out trick-or-treating around the neighborhood. It was so cool to be out without their parents, even if their older siblings were a bit annoying at times.

Mike and Will would come home– whether that be to the Byers' or the Wheeler's– and dump their bags of candy out on the floor, sorting through it to see all that they'd gotten. They made a mess, which upset their mothers, but it was fun nonetheless.

Then, when they got older, they started spending Halloween with Dustin and Lucas, their older siblings no longer having to come with them. The four boys would spend hours trick-or-treating, trying to get the biggest candy hauls.

Once they were too tired to walk anymore, they would go back to Mike's and hang out in his basement, counting all of their candy. It became something of a game to try and get the biggest haul.

When Karen Wheeler told the boys that they had to go home, Will would stay over for a sleepover since he lived so far away. Lucas and Dustin lived very close to Mike, so they were able to just walk home.

Mike and Will would stay up watching scary movies together– but not so scary that they'd get nightmares. If the movie had been scarier than they thought, they'd huddle together in Mike's bed, scared that a monster might pop out of the closet and eat them alive.

So much has changed over the years, but Halloween is still a special time. Mike and Will are now twenty, living together, dating, and in their third year of college. Will has plans to make this the most special Halloween yet.

Will and Mike are just about to head out of their apartment to start shopping for their Halloween costumes and decorations. Mike is standing over the kitchen counter, busy writing down a list of stuff that they will need.

As he does that, Will pulls his shoes on and makes sure that everything is ready. He quickly checks his pocket to make sure that the small velvety box is still there.

This is it.

It's the perfect time for what he's been planning for months. Something that he and Mike have been talking about for awhile.

Little did Mike know that those conversations were actually leading up to something.

Mike's jaw drops as he looks at the sight in front of him. The pen clatters to the floor as he covers his mouth with his hands, in complete shock. Tears begin to fill his eyes.

It's not the fanciest proposal ever, but it doesn't need to be. Their immense love is enough to make it special. Halloween is special to them, and now it's going to be even more special, marking the date they got engaged– as long as Mike says yes.

"Will..." Mike breaths out, finding it hard to say much else.

Will is starting to tear up as well. "Michael James Wheeler, I– I've loved you since the day that you asked me to be your friend. I've loved you as my boyfriend for the past five, but I think it's time–" He cuts himself off, laughing at the ridiculousness. "Ah, fuck it– Will you marry me?"

Mike is nodding immediately. "Y– yes!" He says quickly, pulling Will up from the floor and into a hug. His face is buried in Will's neck, clearly trying to hide how flustered he is.

Will sets the ring box on the counter, then wraps his arms around Mike's waist, lifting him slightly off the ground.

"Oh my god," Mike whispers against Will's neck, still processing everything. "I love you so much, Will, you know that?" He wraps his legs around Will's waist so that Will's carrying him, then pulls away from his neck to look down at him. "I love you so, so much."

Mike leans down to kiss Will, and Will kisses him back, adjusting his hold on him so that he doesn't fall. "I love you, too," Will murmurs against his lips.

"I'd sure hope so, given that you just proposed to me," Mike jokes, kissing him one more time before Will sets him on the kitchen island.

Will leans over and grabs the velvet box that is sitting right next to Mike, and pulls the silver ring out. Then he grabs Mike's hand, brings it up to his lips to kiss his knuckles, then slides the ring onto his ring finger.

Mike stretches his arm out, the ring catching the light so that he can get a better look at it. It has a diamond right front and center, and two colored stones on the sides of it. One blue and one yellow.

"It's perfect," Mike gawks. "I love it so much."

"I love you so much," Will returns, standing up on his tiptoes to kiss Mike's cheek.

Mike flushes even at something so simple as a cheek kiss. Everything Will does always leaves him giddy, and Will finds it adorable. "I can't believe I get to call you my fiancé now," Mike says, completely in awe. "And I get to brag to Max that I got proposed to before her."

They share a laugh at that, and then a kiss.

Will's plan went perfectly.
