Work Text:
Dick was lounging on the couch watching as everyone began warming up from patrol as he was benched due to landing wrong. Sue him for expecting the edge of the roof to be able to hold his weight and not break off and crumble beneath him. The immediate adjustment resulted in him crouching down as his weight distributed to try and keep his balance. Sadly, he over corrected and bashed his bad knee into the corner of the freshly redecorated roof ledge.
Aka he had busted his already chronically fucked up knee.
Aka Bruce benched him till he could land a backhandspring without distributing most of his weight onto his good side. Well, better side.
“UGHHHHHHHH,” Dick groaned from his spot on the couch as he watched everyone else begin to warm up before heading out.
“Richard,” Damian began as he continued through his katas from the League. “Leave the dramatics to Todd, it is unbecoming of you.”
“Hey,” Jason interjected from across the cave. “Fuck you.”
“Proving his point perfectly,” Tim half whispered under his breath as he continued typing on his laptop.
“Atleast I didn’t fuck up his knee and make him our version of Moaning Myrtle,” Jason argued as he pointed the frame of one of his guns at Dick as he laid spralled out on the couch.
“Oh, wow a book reference,” Tim egged on. “How original.”
“Hey,” Dick interjected, sitting up. “It’s also a movie reference.”
“And that is the only reason you recognized it,” Damian snickered, causing Dick to turn to him with a fake look of aghast on his face as his free hand rose to his chest.
“Wait a second,” Dick cut off his aforementioned dramatics as he turned back to the group. “This is just like when Jason was little and–”
“No,” Jason cut him off immediately. “I don’t know what you’re gonna say, but don’t.”
“Aw, c’mon,” Dick whined as he leaned back on the couch crossing his arms once more. “It wasn’t even bad.”
Jason continued re–assebliming his gun from across the room after having field stripped and cleaned it. Rolling his eyes at the comment but not further disapproving.
Dick stayed looking at him for a minute, trying to find a work around. “Bruce once grounded me because Jason low balled me when I was trying to bond—”
“Oh, my, fucking, GAWD, not this shit again,” Jason scolded as his attention left his guns. “I didn’t ‘low ball you’ you just fucking suck.”
“I was trying to bond with you,” Dick screeched back.
“Yeah, well,” Jaosn shrugged while turning back to his guns. “Skill issue.”
“SKILL ISSUE!”
“Anybody want to give context for those out of the know,” Tim asked as he stood from his spot and moved closer to the group.
“I,” Dick began, placing his hand on his chest again as he began to speak. “Graciously asked Jason if there was something we could bond over, and he shut me out,” Dick summarized, causing Jaosn to snort. “I don’t remember how we got to it but he agreed to teach me how to pickpocket. So, I tried on Bruce and instantly failed.”
“Skill issue,” Jason repeated as he finished dressing the guns and began to reload them.
“You taught me wrong,” Dick screamed back in indignation.
“TT,” Damian scoffed as he finished his katas and came over to join them. “Father isn’t so dull as to be pick-pocketed.”
“I did it all the time,” Jason smirked as he looked up, holstering the guns once more into the thigh holsters as they sat on the table in front of him, earning him a glare from the youngest. To which, Jason just shrugged. “It was a dumb little game,” Jason explained. “I would pickpocket him and then leave the shit on his pillow.”
“Exactly,” Dick argued. “You failed me.”
“I didn’t fuckin’ fail you–”
“You’re hand always brushed my pants,” Bruce explained as he entered the cave. “That and you have warmer hands than Jason,” Bruce continued as he reached the landing of the stairwell. “Your hand radiated warmth whereas Jason’s didn’t.”
“HA,” Jason cut in. “Skill issue. Wait, how the hell does that story relate to now?”
“You said I wouldn't be able to do the trick on the edge of the roof,” Dick replied.
Jason just shook his head and rolled his eyes, “once again, SKILL ISSUE.”
