Light’s fingers tighten on L’s wrist. Panic is swelling in his throat. He doesn’t want to do any of these stupid traps. This wasn’t how any of this was meant to go. Selling L out was supposed to be enough for Jigsaw to spare him. His nails are pressing crescent moons into L’s skin. He barely even notices.
“I don’t want to go on my own.”
“Light.” L’s voice is gentler than he has ever heard it. “It is the only way to proceed, and we must keep going if we want to get out of here. You can do this.”
Light sniffs. His hold stays firm for another few seconds, before he reluctantly uncurls his fingers. He gives a brief nod. He can do this. Of course he can do this. He is the god of the new world. He can do anything.
That doesn’t mean he wants to.
“See you on the other side.” L gives him an unconvincing smile.
