Work Text:
Samira checks the time on the stove. Only 8pm, hopefully plenty of time to prep these cinnamon rolls and set the dough to proof overnight after wolfing down the pizza she picked up for dinner. She'd stopped at the grocery store on her way home from work just to get the ingredients for these. Parker always talks about how much she misses her mom's cinnamon rolls, so Samira has taken it upon herself to get the recipe straight from her mother-in-law so she can make them as a surprise treat.
Samira smiles wistfully as she continues mixing in the ingredients. She has had to plan this very carefully. Parker is always so aware of what's going on in Samira's head, which is wonderful most of the time, but does make surprising her difficult. She thinks she has succeeded this time though, in part by not buying anything until the very last minute and in part by swearing her mother-in-law to total secrecy.
Samira very carefully puts the last cinnamon roll in the pan to prove overnight so they will be ready when her wife gets home from the night shift. It's so rare that they get time off that matches, but she has off the next two days and Parker has the next two nights, so they are going to make the most of it. Samira nods in satisfaction as she looks at the rolls, then grimaces as she sees the mess she's made of the kitchen. She sighs and starts grabbing the dishes to start washing up so she can go to bed.
Her alarm goes off at 6:45 am sharp. She checks her texts— Parker texted her about 20 minutes ago that dayshift was starting to arrive, which hopefully means she'll be out of there by 7:15 at the latest after handoff. It's just enough time to bake and ice the rolls so they are fresh and ready when Parker gets home.
The rolls are ready and she's just finishing the icing when Samira hears Parker open the door and call out that she's home.
"In the kitchen!" Samira calls back. Parker comes in, carrying coffees from their favorite local place just around the corner.
"Oh you made cinnamon rolls?" Parker takes a sniff. "My mama's cinnamon rolls? That must have been so much work and effort, Samira! You're too good to me. I can't wait to taste them. Thank you." Parker leans down to plant a kiss on Samira and place her coffee next to her.
"Mmm I sure did, got the recipe from your mama, wanted to do something special for you," Samira says against Parker's lips.
Parker kisses her soundly before pulling away. "Well I'm really looking forward to our day off. We should get started with these gorgeous cinnamon rolls and delicious coffee."
Samira digs one of the rolls out and licks her fingers. "Let's dig in then, my love."
Parker laughs and grabs a plate to dish up her own roll, then sneaks another kiss. "You got it, boss."
