The Right Moment

Summary:

While on a fun indoor waterpark date, Barbie wants to find the right moment to give Sallie May a gift and tell her something she had been thinking about for a long time

Notes:

Thank you to mferret for the art piece that inspired the cute moment at the end.

I think something like Wipeout would absolutely be fun for demons since it's so extreme. They'd do that just for fun while that show made it a competition. Admittedly I would've liked to try it myself back in the day but it's a bit much these days. ^_^' And there is NO WAY I'd ever do those extreme waterslides where they practically drop you at a 90 degree angle. Regular waterslides scare me enough. O.o

(And it'd be funny if of all the extreme things Millie loves, insane waterslides might be her hard stop)

I figured Barbie and Sallie May would have fun going on the course and getting knocked off at certain parts in the course sinc even the most skilled competitor would have a hard time. Heck, the giant rubber balls at the end would be hard to do so having the girls get knocked over them just seemed funny to me. XD

I wanted the ending to be sweet with Barbie seeing Sallie May at the right angle and being all shy and cute while giving her the gift. They aren't at marriage stages yet, they've spent so much time together and loving each other without saying the words yet. But a great day just gave Barbie the courage to say it while giving her a gift that shows her feelings. And of course Sallie May would return the feelings because Barbie's her kind of woman.

Work Text:

“Hey Barb!” Sallie May called, running up to the older imp woman.

Barbie turned, her face heating up as she saw the cute Wrathian heading her way. Those days when Sallie May could come up to see her meant so much to her. The former acrobat wasn’t much of a people person since getting out of rehab but Sallie May made her hate people less. She was getting out more and having fun and those date nights with Sallie May made things even more fun.

“Hey Sal,” Barbie grinned, clasping hands with her before giving her a smooch. “You ready to go?”

“Oh fuck yeah! Where’re we goin’?” the ponytailed imp wondered.

“Something I think you’d find very cool,” the older woman winked. “Hope you brought your swimsuit.”

Sallie’s grin widened; she LOVED waterparks so if Barbie was taking her to one of those, that made her a very happy camper. “Now ya got me curious, m’lady,” she teased.

Barbie giggled as she took her hand. “Come on!”

As the girls ran towards their destination, Barbie looked back at her excited partner before turning back, an excited smile on her face. She had been wanting to do something super cool with Sallie May as a thanks for being such a great partner and friend over these past months. She really felt serious about her and wanted to do something special for the little lady. And after a day of fun, she wanted to do something special to end it.

Fortunately, she had saved up enough from her job to get Sallie May something meaningful.

“Whoa! What IS this?!” Sallie gasped, her eyes widening in pure awe.

Based on the Earth show Wipeout, this was an indoor waterpark that had an obstacle course where you could race around courses like on the show. There were regular attractions like a wave pool, waterslides, and a lazy river to chill out after all the extreme fun, but the main attraction was the obstacle course.

“I figured you might want a rematch after our battle at the Pain Games during the Harvest Moon Festival,” Barbie started, giving her girlfriend a cocky grin. “I mean, I’d be more than willing to kick your cute ass again but let’s see how you do with this.”

“Oh fuck yes!” the younger woman grinned, fangs bared in excitement. “Let’s get changed!”

“I hope you brought a onepiece suit. They recommend it so things don’t ride up on ya while you’re in the park,” the curly-horned imp suggested.

“Oh I’ve learned from my sister not to wear two piece suits at waterparks while goin’ on a waterslide at the LooLoo Land waterpark,” Sallie reassured her, shuddering at what her sister went through when she forgot to cross her legs on an extreme waterslide once. “Worst wedgie I’ve ever seen…”

“That explains why she winced at the mention of a waterslide last time I talked to her,” Barbie realized.

Once they were changed and their belongings were locked up safely, the girls found a spot that was a good distance between the course and the lazy river. With their towels all set and life jackets put on for safety, they made their way to the course. There were two options you could do for the course. A solo run to see how you’d fare among the different obstacles or a race to see who could beat their friends in a head-to-head match.

Naturally, the couple decided to go for the head-to-head match.

“Damn look at all the shit you gotta go through!” Sallie commented. “Jumpin’ onto giant balls, dodging randomly popping out boxing gloves, bein’ knocked into a pool by a hammer–!” She turned to her girlfriend with an impressed smile. “And here I thought humans were wimps! But they’re as crazy as we are with extreme sports!”

“Part of the fun, babe!” Barbie winked. “The key’s to try and keep an eye out for anything that might send you flying into the water.”

“WAAAAUGH!”

*SPLOOSH*

“Like that,” Barbie told her, pointing to a hellhound guy that had gotten knocked into the water below. “It’s really tricky knowing which ones you gotta take your time with and the others you gotta move quickly on.”

“AAAIEEEEE!”

*SPLOOSH*

Sallie watched as a girl imp, who was hesitating at the giant balls, got knocked into them by the helper hammer and fell into the water. “Shit so you really gotta be quick on your feet to dodge those obstacles, huh?” she commented before grinning excitedly. “This is my kind of place!”

Barbie laughed as she clapped her on the back. “That’s the spirit! Let’s just hope we don’t end up eating pool water,” she joked.

The girls went to the line for the partner course run and they were ready for their run. “Alright, just be careful. We’re not liable to be sued if you break your ass,” the teen told them.

Barbie and Sallie May took their marks and waited for the bell to ring. At the green light, they both started their run and at first it was pretty easy. Fast-walking along the foam covered platforms before heading to the punchout wall. At random, boxing gloves would pop out and knock any poor schmuck into the water so you had to be careful.

Barbie kept low, dodging the boxing gloves while Sallie May tried to punch them back. She almost fell in the water but she hung on, impressing herself and her girlfriend.

“Nice try, bitch!” she grinned, whacking one of the gloves before heading to the first platform jump.

Not wanting to get whacked in the back by a foam hammer, the girls jumped across each flat platform, making their way with relative ease. Barbie slipped off at the end, giving Sallie May an edge.

“Dammit!” the older woman sputtered, quickly swimming her way to the next part of the course.

Sallie May was in the lead for a bit but she had to dodge some swinging logs that would knock her into the pool if she wasn’t careful. She managed to get past the first two but she got cocky and got a third log right in the gut. The younger woman almost managed to hold on but it was getting slippery so she fell down in the water.

“Stupid log!” she cursed, watching as Barbie sped ahead of her. “Well…at least the view’s nice from down here,” Sallie mused, watching her partner’s cute butt up above.

Once Sallie May managed to swim her way to the next part of the course, they both found themselves at the large rubber balls. This was the part that tripped up most contestants on the show and anyone trying to try the course for themselves. By the time anyone got to this part, they were super slippery from the pool water and exhausted from swimming if they had been knocked off any part of the course.

“Shit how’re we gonna do this?” Barbie wondered.

“Fast might be the only way to go…” Sallie mused, unaware of the helper hammer cranking back.

“Let’s try to go at the same time so we don’t get left behind,” the older imp woman suggested.

“Good idea. One…”

“Two–”

*THUNK*

“AAAAAHHHH!!!” the girls yelped, being knocked into the first ball by the helper hammer from taking too long. They were bounced right along the balls, looking like ragdolls in the wind. There was no telling who would win at this point. But in the end, Sallie May managed to flop herself onto the final platform while Barbie undershot and fell in the water.

“I…I won?” Sallie blinked before standing up and cheering. “Whoo-hoo! I won!”

Barbie pulled herself up out of the water, watching her girlfriend cheering and celebrating. Normally she would’ve been frustrated at losing since she–admittedly–could be a sore loser. But seeing her look so happy made Barbie happy too.

Even if she ended up swallowing pool water.

The rest of their day at the waterpark was a lot more lowkey since they were pooped from the obstacle course. Relaxing in the lazy river, jumping along with the waves in the wave pool, and riding on the tandem tube waterslide together. They were exhausted but had a lot of fun together which was what Barbie was hoping for.

“Shit that was a lot of fun!” Sallie smiled as she swung her feet over the IMP building roof. “Ya really know how to show a gal a good time!”

“I’m glad ya had a good time. And I’m happy you won the obstacle course but next competition? Victory will be mine!” Barbie warned playfully.

“Bring it on!”

The girls sat in silence for a moment before bursting out laughing, seeing how ridiculous they looked. Today was such a great day and Barbie, seeing Sallie May practically glowing in Pride’s evening light, felt herself feeling a bit flustered.

“So…you really had fun?” Barbie asked her, fiddling with something in her pocket.

Sallie May turned to her, a little surprised by the question. “Of course I did, hun. I got to run around like a maniac and spend the whole day with you,” she reasoned, noticing the shy expression on her partner’s face. “You had fun too, right?”

“Y-Yeah of course I did!” Barbie nodded, pulling out a long box. “I just…I wanted to be sure because…” She gulped before handing Sallie May the box. “J-Just open it!”

Curious, the younger woman opened the box and her eyes widened in surprise. “Is this…a glass dart?” she guessed, pulling out the object and examining it. It was a hand-crafted dart made of glass with red and orange crystals on the sides.

“I saw this glass shop that makes cool sculptures out of real glass and crystals so I wanted to get you something cool,” Barbie began, feeling really shy. “When we first played darts together, that was the most fun I had in a long time. You…you really helped me when I was in a bad place and I’m so fucking grateful you gave a chance to someone messy like me and…I just wanted to tell you…I love you.”

Sallie May didn’t say anything as she placed the dart back into the box, putting it down on the ground behind her before immediately kissing Barbie. Barbie was stunned but kissed her back, moving her hands in her silky dark hair. It felt…so good just saying the words that she’d been feeling for a long time now.

Sallie May pulled back, tears in her eyes as she smiled back at her. “I love you too…”

“Y-You mean that?” Barbie whispered, feeling herself get choked up.

“Fuck yes I do!” Sallie laughed, wiping her eyes. “You’re a badass that takes no shit from anyone, you’re funny and cute and smart as a whip. And I love how you try so hard at everything you do.” The young woman held her hands as she looked at her seriously. “I’ve been wanting to tell you for a long time but ya beat me to the punch.”

The girls just sat on the roof, laughing at how ridiculous they must’ve looked but so happy that they were on the same page. No doubt they were going to have to tell their families about this and deal with the excited squealing and teasing that would come from that. But at this moment, they were happy just being together and loving each other.

Clumsy start to their relationship and all.
