Happiness wasn’t meant to last forever, unfortunately, Izuku Midoriya and Katsuki Bakugo learnt this lesson against their will.
The news acted like a slap in the face, bringing their shattered hearts back to this inevitable fate. Those familiar walls suddenly became a source of pain with scarred hands holding the calloused ones tighter. The crimson eyes were too stunned by the revelation, catching the tears falling on Izuku’s cheeks, despite the heartbreaking expression on his husband’s face. Katsuki wasn’t stupid and knew this day would come, but he never wanted to bring his lover into this mess, especially if this implied watching his other half being a spectator of this terrible show….as a vulgar pawn in this chess game that was life.
Their story started with an innocent tone; two children meeting by accident in the same neighborhood. Their distinct universe were sealed with unique hobbies and mindsets, but their common passion transformed those differences into forgotten souvenirs.
Those afternoons spent together in each other’s houses became their favorite moment of the day, based on the excitement crossing their faces. Katsuki Bakugo had always been a tough child during his youth: harsh behavior, stubbornness, and a certain mindset that tended to scare most of the children who crossed his path. It wasn’t surprising to see parents avoiding contact with this rude boy, but among all the shadows, one stood up to those gossips.
His name was Izuku Midoriya. The first time the boy presented himself to his new friend, he looked at him with mesmerizing emerald eyes and a rising blush on his freckled chubby cheeks. His small fingers stayed behind his back, with a mumbling voice explaining how amazing he was earlier, making the stubborn blond proud to see how someone finally recognized his strength. Katsuki naturally welcomed him by his side and the two of them started to hang out more often, until they proclaimed themselves as each other’s best friends.
The shy shadow who came across his path on an innocent day, became his pillar and each of his praises brought a smirk to the blond’s lips, realizing how he wouldn’t mind being the only one having the nerd’s attention. Izuku was impressed by their chemistry and wouldn’t wish for a better companion than Kacchan: this boy might be rude to the others, but he was the strongest and showed him his All Might collection, which was impressive for a child not taller than three apples!
Many people tried to talk behind their backs and portray this friendship as something, but they didn’t care. The only thing that mattered was how Izuku supported his best friend for each of his projects and the mutual support offered by the blond about their future as heroes. The idea of building a future with each other becomes a new dream to reach: their own agency, their quirks abilities, and their genuine friendship.
Their favorite souvenirs remained the sleepovers: They usually looked at the fort they made from blankets, with a light to erase the monsters in the dark, and a delicate laugh that escaped from their lips in the quiet house. Izuku Midoriya didn’t care about what the rest of the world had to say about his best friend, he knew the plain promise made between Kacchan and him was meant to last forever.
Unfortunately, fate decided otherwise. That day, after learning about his inability to have a powerful quirk like his best friend, he stayed distant. Inko, as a heartbroken mom, offered him the best hugs and stayed by his side until his sobs were erased by the wind in this silent room.
It didn’t take long before the curious head noticed something was wrong with the nerd: His emerald eyes were holding back too many tears when they mentioned the topic of their agency, until the poor soul broke the news. Katsuki found a way to let him know how he doesn’t need to have superpowers to be the strongest - Maybe they have a chance to be like these amazing duos on television: Katsuki as the main lead with his strength, and Izuku as his acolyte with his smart brain.
However, those tender and innocent projects ended up being forgotten when changes transformed those delicate frames into bitter ones. This dynamic stayed the same on the outside, despite the appearance of some conflicts that transformed this source of inspiration into its darkest days. Katsuki never denied the status of their relationship, but his personality started to change and he became distant from the freckled boy. Izuku suffered from this sensation of losing the only person he trusted more than his own life, but held onto the hope of having their own agency together as they promised!
—- ---
Unfortunately, Katsuki Bakugo went too far during their middle school days.
The previous hope to start on better bases disappeared when his best friend became his rival. This impressive figure, who used to be the source of his smile and praise, transformed into a tyrant bringing him down at the slightest occasion. Izuku should’ve known there was no chance to be saved, but it hurt to meet the crimson eyes, looking at him with contempt. There used to be admiration and excitement in those stunning irises…but it was too late, and the teenager was doomed to be the puppet of his own games.
Each sunrise became a source of suffering for his shattered soul, longing to find his old best friend and reassuring past. It was evident how the day would come when those comments about his superiority and amazing quirk would take the lead over his rational thinking, transforming this stubborn child into the worst version of himself. The sudden distance between them was justified by the fragile omega being the target of those mocking laughs and stupid comments against his will. Izuku Midoriya and Katsuki Bakugo used to share the same universe, ignoring their differences but life imposed new rules that consumed the last hint of hope inside their tormented chest.
Katsuki noticed the undeniable changes. After all, he had known this guy since they were brats and had many occasions to share each of his secrets, even the most embarrassing ones, if he wanted to. However, there was something poignant about the way the emerald-eyed woman, who used to look at him with admiration, avoided his gaze when they shared the same room. The freckled boy became a shell of himself, covering his suffering behind his fake smile to reassure the people concerned about his state, but Katsuki was able to recognize those evident lies everywhere.
He was the one who messed things up and ruined this unique bond between them. The golden haired boy genuinely regretted each of his actions, and shitty words he said to the shadow who followed him since their early beginning. The small child, who praised each of his comments and offered affectionate hugs, was now a reclusive shadow in the background, tolerating the hell brought by his oppressor. The most distressing part was probably how this oppressor was someone he knew by heart: Instead of being some random bullying him due to boredom, Izuku had to fall for the cruel trick of his childhood friend, who knew him better than anyone in this shitty classroom.
Don’t get him wrong, the blond wanted to offer proper apologies, but he was stuck in this role he created against his will. After all, everyone seemed to remember his name due to his harsh behavior, sharing a narrative falsified by his whispers in the corridors, when it was only an act. Katsuki sadly became the executioner in this bittersweet narrative: He wished to erase those terrible words he said to his childhood friend, apologies for the tears hiding at the corner of his lips and the angry expression on his face.
Katsuki was proud to expose his stubborn behavior and powerful quirk to the most curious eyes, but none of their praise would be as genuine as Izuku’s in the old days. The blond wanted to curse himself for being selfish about something he caused that went too far. The origins of those changes were related to his teenage crises that led to conflicts with his surroundings, and the appearance of new feelings he had never seen before.
Anger became a familiar sensation inside his chest, with curses leaving his lips and doors brutally closed in this broken house. No matter how hard he tried, he couldn’t erase this rising sentiment inside his heart, being dictated by stupid reasoning that led to the same person: Izuku Midoriya. The blond wanted to get rid of it, but he was forced to consider his childhood friend as a stranger, almost like those years of reassurance during stormy nights never existed.
—-- ---
Everything became clearer when their two shadows met by curious happenstance years after the end of their abrupt friendship.
Their inner conflicts remained stronger than the thousands of questions residing at the tip of the blond's lips, staring at the stupid curls. To his knowledge, the freckled boy always claimed to be quirkless, being the main reason for their unique duo in their imaginary agency, taking dust with the rest of their memories over the years. Katsuki knew he should let Izuku explain how he ended up here with a quirk he forgot to mention a long time ago, breaking a part of the blond’s trust. He genuinely believed him so why…why was it so hard to stare into those determined irises after this crazy explanation?
Was it justified to be jealous of Izuku for having the attention of his childhood model? Would he be strong enough to go against his ego and fix this situation? Only Katsuki was able to solve those questions, but he had no choice but to consider himself as a “rival” instead of the innocent soul he used to be.
Izuku Midoriya knew he wouldn’t mind being considered as a rival if this meant staying in touch with the blond, with the hope of bringing the fragile one into a strong thread. Their new dynamic was unusual after the tender memories he used to share with this taller figure, looking at him with a grin and crossed arms against his chest. Izuku easily noticed the slight changes that became evident through the weeks; no matter if it was casual interactions or stupid fights, the two teenagers always found a way to bring their old titles back.
It was refreshing to see this familiar figure waiting for him at the end of the classes, helping him with study and sparring sessions for their training. Their new group of friends noticed the instant chemistry between them and this ability to erase the other’s worries with a single glance, considered a magical power to their eyes. After all, Izuku and Katsuki may find new people around, but no one would be as impressive as the other, especially after this unique narrative and everything they’ve been through. Those wasted years of misunderstanding ended up being solved by simple conversations, tears erased by delicate fingers against their skin, and a slight blush on their cheeks. If the two teenagers never complained about this sudden proximity, they simply enjoyed each moment as if it were the last, unaware of the cruel twist of fate awaiting them in the future….
The green-haired boy couldn’t be happier to see how the shadow he had admired his entire life, returned as his savior in the most memorable way. There wasn’t any day passing by where his genuine smile on his face wasn’t caused by those crimson irises glancing at him, with the same grin that followed him in their youth. In his naivety, Izuku thought he would have enough time to repair his past mistakes, and yet, it was the calm before the storm..
The two childhood friends experienced a forced distance in the darkest days, but seeing the lifeless body of Katsuki Bakugo on this cold ground, drowning in a river of blood, was terrifying. Izuku didn’t even know when he lost control of his rational thinking, forgetting about his environment, to the point of getting the revenge his childhood friend needed. It took him by surprise, but the single frame of his childhood friend against the floor, being out of reach, gave him the impression of losing something important…almost like Shigraki ripped out half of his soul.
Their two souls forged their worlds into one in a white hospital room, highlighted by unforgettable revelations. If Katsuki was speechless to learn about Izuku losing his important quirk, the freckled boy simply accepted his childhood friend's support in this new journey. It will be full of ups and downs, but it didn’t stop the duo from getting closer after those traumatizing events. Their innocence has been sacrificed for selfish desire, and justified the desperate measures of sneaking into each other’s dorms in the middle of the night to rest against the other’s embrace. It was often Izuku who made the move, welcomed by the blond’s fingers against his messy curls and shoulders covering his sobs.
The nature of their relationship became the source of many questions, often unsolved or left in the blur. Izuku and Katsuki consider themselves best friends with this precious title that guided their devoted hearts in the unknown, but something changed between them. Each interaction, hidden smile, or scarlet colors on their skin reflected the rise of new sentiments the green-haired boy had never seen before. He naturally let himself be guided into this new beginning, realizing how this wasn’t another form of admiration but a myth he used to call “love”. With hindsight, it wasn’t surprising to fall for his childhood friend, unaware about how the blond felt the same since years, but never acknowledged them publicly.
Their fingers teased each other a few times, often followed by soft smiles exchanged in the middle of the night. Those moments were highlighted by their heads resting against the other’s chest, afraid to let this temporary warmth escape from their reach. Izuku and Katsuki were selfish when it came to love, but they didn’t necessarily hide their attempts to get closer, especially with their near kiss that brought some fire in their chest, opening the cage to their secret garden they’ve kept hidden for too long. The most interesting part was to see this new dynamic taking a gentle form; enjoying each sign as the most breathtaking gifts from fate;...and welcomed love as a whole, instead of a threat.
During graduation, Izuku’s eyes met the crimson ones in the crowd, holding the same stupid smirk on his face. A few years had passed since the freckled man and obstinate blond acknowledged their romantic sentiments toward each other, but they never made a move. Their fear of breaking this precious bond with crucial mistakes haunted their mind, being echoes of this past that haunted their nights since middle school. Izuku and Katsuki had no idea about the different roads and unexplored chapters in their journey, but they refused to let each other go, not after they've already lost their everything once.
However, Katsuki’s world fell apart after facing the rejection of their biggest dream
It was a simple proposition hidden under important words, a message he wanted to keep discreet, but Izuku’s answer brought a cold atmosphere to the car. It’s not like Katsuki wanted to force his childhood friend to take a path he felt uncomfortable with, especially when he seemed happy enough with his teaching career and wasn’t bad at his job. Everyone loved him, and the praise around his name was pretty impressive, but there was something missing in the blond’s chest….a treasure he found through childhood memories that reflected their crazy journey.
The naive children who grew up too fast to their liking ended up being adults with redundant lifestyles and hopes for novelty. The golden-haired man loved his job despite his low rank, but it wasn’t as exciting as it used to be with his childhood friend by his side during their teenage years. This disappointment might be justified by his romantic feelings, considering this as a rejection of the love confession he indirectly made with the choice of his words. He knew he needed to be mentally ready for any kind of eventualities, but there were some fights he couldn’t win….
Little did he know how, one year later after this rejection, he found a letter on his desk with a familiar handwriting. His calloused fingers didn’t think twice before grabbing the delicate paper and reading the ink on those pages, highlighting the tender confessions from a name who became his source of inspiration. In his letter, Izuku pointed out how he felt guilty for rejecting this dream offer based on a false assumption. This break helped him to realize how he wanted this future more than anything and could find a way to arrange his teaching career according to heroes activities.
Katsuki simply smirked and sent a text to the nerd, asking him when he was ready to start. The answer came in a few seconds, “tomorrow”, followed by a smiley face. The two childhood friends naturally found their ease in this path, with Katsuki gaining ranks and Izuku surpassing him in this false rivalry. The decision to move together as roommates wasn’t surprising either, being more advantageous for their jobs and current situation, but it wasn’t easy every day to deal with each other’s ups and downs. Katsuki has his flaws and Izuku has his bad habits, but the two men proceeded to properly communicate and finally make a move after so many years of desperate attempts.
It started with a simple comment after another drink, a slight laugh exchanged after reflection about their past, and lost glances. The atmosphere in their apartment lightened, with scarlet colors on their faces and a light “no wonder why I fell for you” escaping from Katsuki’s lips. Izuku wanted to put the blame on his drunk state, but the conversation went on until the truth started to show through meaningful confessions.
The midnight sky kept an eye on their shadows, with delicate fingers interlacing each other with care, and lips chasing after each other to fill those years of desperation. The rest of the narrative shared itself in indelible ink on those blank pages, retelling the journey of those two souls sharing secret kisses, embraces, and becoming an official part of each other’s lives.
This time, their hidden confessions were described with gestures, marks on their body, and a tender laugh echoing in the room. Secret kisses started to be exchanged after a mission, with their friends relieved to see those endless years of pining being resolved. Izuku and Katsuki simply laughed at the comments, but secretly knew how they wouldn’t wish for a better ending were each other’s biggest weakness and strength, in a world ready to welcome their genuine love for the next decades.
Their fairytale took an unexpected turn when the symbolic promises they’ve shared under curious stars, became an official gesture. The answer was obvious on Izuku’s lips the moment he saw the slight smirk crossing the blond's face. He never thought he would see his childhood friend be the one to put a knee on the floor and propose after five years of relationship.. The idea crossed his mind a few times, being simple mentions in their casual talk but the blond never offered a proper answer…and the freckled man knew why. Katsuki’s vision became blurry when shaking hands ruffled the golden spikes, losing his thumbs in this warmth with a gentle move.
“Of course I would love to be yours,” the blond whispered with a sob, wiping the tears away from his cheeks under the flushed cheeks on his lover’s face.
There was only one person he chased his entire life and it was the same man standing a few centimeters away from him, with a relieved tone and adorable expression on his face. Izuku’s lips shut him down with another kiss, chasing after him like a treasure he wanted to cherish more than any praise he received in this world.
Years later, his scarred fingers lost themselves in the spiky hair, ignoring the bright sunlight passing through his costume when he stepped back and looked at his husband, with the brightest smile on his face. He rested his forehead against Katsuki’s, whispering how proud he was to wear this ethereal ring on his finger and owned the only family name that would become his source of happiness for the rest of his life.
“Until death do us part,” he whispered with a gentle voice, hearing the congratulations from the crowd and the slight smirk on the blond's face.
The ceremony was as perfect as they imagined it.
The main couple was the center of attention with their first dance, unaware of how the love-making they shared as a new married couple was probably the best they’ve ever had. That night, the scarred fingers, wearing this golden ring on his skin, caressed the blond’s cheeks and whispered how much he loved him. Nothing really changed after being married, and the two childhood friends were happier than ever. Their relationship has been made public, their friends supported each step in this journey and they became icons for the pride and same sex relationship, something they’d never expected. Everything was perfect, and each day spent together reminded them how much they enjoyed this second chance, but this illusion of a happy ending was about to face an abrupt end very soon….
—--- ---
Izuku never liked hospitals, with walls as white as the expression on his face after the previous revelations. His fingers held the calloused ones tighter, feeling the fabric of their rings against each other as a reminder of their reality. He remembered how he immediately rushed to the hospital after receiving the terrible news that his husband had an accident on the battlefield, and was in an emergency state. His shorter figure waited with trembling legs on the floor, heavy breath, and constant glance at the clock on the wall, hoping to see a better announcement after what he learned about his husband’s hospitalization.
Each shadow crossing this corridor reflected a different emergency, creating more anxiety inside his shattered heart, but his hell took a relieving tone when the doctor appeared five minutes later, explaining how Katsuki survived and needed some rest. When the hour of visit opened the next day, Izuku’s shadow was the first one to show up at the hospital room, hos, next to the sleeping blond on this uncomfortable bed. The freckled man prayed the stars to keep an eye on his childhood friend, and fell asleep beside him, knowing this hell was over.
Little did he know how wrong he was.
The shorter man stayed with the stubborn alpha the entire day, took care of him, and complimented him with a bunch of kisses, under the evident blush on the blond's ears. If Katsuki was relieved to know he didn’t have to leave the man he loved alone, he noticed something was wrong…and his instincts proved him right when the doctor, who took care of his situation, showed up with a concerned expression on his face. However, he didn’t expect to hear such cruel words leaving the man’s lips, who was supposed to represent good news!
“No, there must be a mistake,” Izuku’s voice mumbled with a shaky tone, holding the calloused hands closer to his brushed skin. He tried to hold back the tears that had already fallen down his cheeks, but his heart knew there was nothing he could do to stop this mess, even if he prayed to god or some mysterious force to change this heartbreaking reality. “Kacchan had always been careful when it came to this, we made sure of making constant checks- Do you think you can make another verification? Maybe it was an error and-”
“I’m sincerely sorry, Mr.Bakugo, we can make this test a thousand times, the results will stay the same,” the older man confided with a comprehensive tone, aware of the pain this announcement delivered to the couple. After all, receiving Dynamight here was a miracle, but the doctor never thought he would share such terrible news with the well-adored hero in Japan. “I wish there were a way to fix this situation, but the damages caused by the previous fight are irreversible. Our team took this case very seriously and concluded that his hearing will probably get worse to the point of no return….”
“How long do we have left ?” Katsuki asked with a low tone, surprising the doctor. The man checked the information on his field and stared back at the concerned crimson eyes, noticing how his calloused hand never left the scarred ones, holding them tightly. The freckled man couldn’t help but make a silent sob, looking at his husband with distraught, hoping they’ll wake up from this nightmare.
“For the moment, we established a degree of mild hearing loss but it's only a matter of time before it gets worse, until he’ll definitely lose his hearing. You have between four and six months left until the point where hearing aids won’t be able to fix your situation,” he whispered with a disconcerting tone.
It was terrible to break his patients' hearts, but his job was cruel for the most generous souls who didn’t deserve such a fate. The golden-haired man simply nodded and thanked the older man for his answers, while the doctor left the room, leaving two vulnerable shadows in this suffocating room. The hesitant fingers held the calloused ones like his life was on the line, ignoring their shaky hands, as tears fell down his porcelain skin.
There must be a way to delay this inevitable situation, make a quirk to gain time, or something similar, but he refused to let the man he loved lose such a precious thing, especially when it was a reminder of their tender journey. After all, it was the same voice that started his crazy adventure with its ups and downs, and thinking about this meaningful detail being forgotten over the next years shattered his heart into millions of pieces.
The lost fingers met the messy curls, ruffling this sensitive area of his body. The intimacy behind this gesture was as delicate as the lips who kissed him like there was no tomorrow, admiring how the omega covered his smile with a rising blush once those gentle thumbs lifted his chin in a slow movement. The taller figure welcomed the tears, similar to the ones residing on Izuku’s skin, understanding how they both shared the same pain. In all honesty, it was a consequence to face one of these days, especially with their rhythmed lifestyles, but it was too early. The couple still had a bunch of things to experience, new sounds to discover, and gentle laughter to mesmerize but once again, they found themselves being simple pawns on this uncontrollable fate guiding each of the actions, even the most poignant ones.
If Katsuki chose to stay silent, he shared a simple nod with his husband to let him know how he wanted him to come closer. Izuku left the previous chair to sit on the white sheet, resting his head against his childhood friend’s shoulders holding him as close as possible. This terrible news will affect the rest of their lives with damages they never saw coming, but the blond hoped for a miracle to happen, even if it was impossible. The taller man mumbled a low “I’m sorry”, putting the blame on himself when he was just another target of this game of luck. Izuku’s heavy tears met the hospital blouse, trying to accept the situation, but whispering a bunch of “I don’t want to lose you, they can't take this away from you,” won’t be able to return the smile on their faces. He trusted Katsuki’s calm reflections about the situation, even if the blond was as weak as him.
“They won’t,” he simply replied with a broken tone, moving his delicate fingers to cup the chubby freckled cheeks and meet the teary emerald eyes. It was evident how they’ll both suffer from these huge changes, but if taking hearing aids was necessary to slow the damage, the couple was ready to take the risk. “I don’t need a simple voice to remind me of the luck I have to stand by your side. Sure it’ll be shitty to live in a world where i’ll only hear you in dreams, but as long as i have your breathtaking eyes and gentle smiles by my side, that’s all that matter to me. The fate might try to steal me away from you, but it’ll never take away my genuine love and symbolism of this ring…we’ll fight until the end, I promise.”
Izuku believed his confession, especially when the alpha shared the same loving glance on the altar when he officially became his for the rest of their lives. He couldn’t help but think about a world where his lover wouldn’t hear any of his words and tender love confession, being as silent as the dust in the air.
—--
The first month, the couple decided to have a serious talk about it, despite the affecting statement they couldn’t ignore. The silence between them at the simple mention of this topic was too heavy to handle, longing for a miracle to bring their old life back as if nothing had happened.
It was Izuku who made the first move, asking a simple question during dinner, under the surprised crimson eyes. His trembling thumbs moved against the spoon reflecting his emotional distress, feeling the need to express those negative thoughts and put a word on this situation. Izuku looked at him with gentleness, accepting how tough this might be for his husband, but they had no other choice but to talk about it one day or another before it was too late. This fate was inevitable, and the freckled man refused to spend the last five months in silence with “what ifs”....he would never forgive himself if it were the case.
Katsuki replied with a simple comment that covered the pain inside his chest, quickly erased by the sensation of warm fingers against his. The blond lifted his head and met the comprehensive emerald eyes. After all, it wasn’t easy to put a word on those uncomfortable sensations inside his chest, but avoiding them would only make things worse than they already were. The calloused hands held the scarred ones and started to confess everything, from his fear of losing a part of his identity, to the cruel damage it’ll leave on him.
The green-haired man stayed silent the whole time and decided to reply with a reassuring smile. He left his chair and reached the blond's knees, offering an unexpected embrace. The stubborn blond, afraid of commitment, openly revealed his biggest weakness and returned the hug but putting his head against the omega’s neck. His calloused hands held his husband’s shirt tighter, mumbled a few inaudible words in the wind, as Izuku’s hands caressed his cheeks, stealing a delicate kiss against his forehead.
“I know, I’m afraid too but there’s still a way, we need to do everything in our duty to slow the process or be at ease once the time has come…” he confessed with a soft tone, hoping it was enough to cover his concerns. Katsuki noticed how his mate was scared but he decided to stand up and show how giving up shouldn’t be an option, even at their lowest. “No matter what happens, it’ll never take away your true self, the man I fell in love with, and the amazing hero that became my biggest pride. Remember, it’s us against the rest of the world, love.”
The blond rested on Izuku’s shoulders for a few minutes, feeling the gentle fingers rubbing his back. The twitch gestures reflected his fear, but they knew they’d be fine…even if fate tries to separate them with another obstacle. They already faced death and survived this reunion in the afterlife, a simple obstacle like this one won’t be enough to break the invisible bond they forged together.
The next week, the couple showed up at the hospital to be informed more about the next solutions. The older man seemed respectful with the choice of his words and explanations, this wasn’t easy for him either, especially after he saw how much these two cared about each other. Any family or partner would be devastated by the news, but having support in those tough moments was the best way to accept and handle those tragic circumstances.
The entire time, the hesitant fingers found the calloused ones under the desk, ruffling his golden ring against his skin that echoed ethereal promises for this lifetime, and the next ones awaited them once the time had come. The older man answered each of their questions and made sure to let his patients leave this appointment without any doubts about this topic.
Facing this revelation was like a slap in the face, but when the question of a hearing aid crossed his attention, Katsuki and Izuku stayed silent. The doctor mentioned its use, and ability to offer a sense of normality with this progressive loss, being an option to reassure the patient and his loved ones. The conversation went by for a few minutes until the three figures agreed on this final choice, being better than waking up with the regret of not taking this plan B earlier.
“I understand your apprehension, but based on your last results, you don’t need to wear them at the moment, but we’ll give them in case you need them later,” the older man added with a nod of approbation from the couple. Katsuki didn’t really like how this bad dream started to last for too long, but it was only the tip of the iceberg, and the doctor warned them about things getting worse in the next months, explaining how constant checks were necessary. “Feel free to use them once you feel the need to. There’s no shame in wearing them, I know a bunch of big names in society who share the same situation as you, and it doesn’t make you unworthy. You have the luck to have a supportive partner by your side, it might be one of the only things that’ll make you survive until the end.”
Izuku's hands rested against his shoulders, catching his attention. The crimson eyes shared an affectionate glance when the emerald irises looked at him with a loving expression, the same one he shared during their wedding. Katsuki knew he didn’t need to fight back something that was already killing him from the inside: it was only the beginning of his downfall, but he wasn’t alone…not anymore. Their two shadows could be seen leaving the building during a calm afternoon, with the bright sun heating their clothes and blush coloring their cheeks.
“You know, I’m proud of you for taking this step,” Izuku pointed out with a soft tone, noticing how the blond looked at him with curious expression on his face. He was surprised at the praise and put the blame on the sun for the rising blush on his cheeks, even if the freckled man knew it was a stupid excuse. “It requires a lot of courage and even if you don’t feel ready for the moment, you know what to expect, as heartbreaking as the situation is.”
“What makes you think I’ll be enough to survive this ?” Katsuki asked in a low tone. During a moment, he had the impression of returning to his golden youth, unaware of the upcoming twist with this chosen road. This time, he got his childhood friend by his side, and maybe he should use the extra words and remember how having Izuku as his lifetime partner was his happy ending.
“Because I trust you and always will,” the freckled man whispered with a smile, losing his fingers to cup his husband's cheeks. The stubborn man, source of mitigated opinion in the public media, naturally learned into the touch until their forehead met. The couple ignored the whispers in their surroundings, knowing they remained each other’s biggest strength during hard times. “Kacchan, you died twice for me and returned from this terrible battlefield with the same precious glance on your face and smirk that caught my heart years ago.”
“I don’t like this,” he added with a distant tone. The previous whispers transcribed the genuine pain about the rest that was about to come, but he had a promise to keep…for Izuku and the future they want to build together. He already faced the worst and came back stronger, There was no reason to let the voices in his head take the lead and change his narrative. He was more than a shell of himself, but a name, persona, and source of comfort for his loved ones!
“Me neither but you look like an old man,” Izuku teased with a laugh, pinching his nose. Katsuki groaned, offering a smile to the shorter man’s face. He wondered how Izuku could have so much optimism, but he decided to hold on a little longer, especially if this meant staring at those loving emerald eyes who considered him as the biggest blessing he ever received.
“How is this supposed to reassure me, nerd ?” He asked with an ounce of annoyance, but this didn’t fool the omega, who simply rested his thumb against Katsuki's. The sensation was delicate enough to bring the couple back into their small bubble, especially with their other half they’ve known since birth, an uncommon but tender tale for the most curious ears.
“I’m just saying you’re my favorite grandpa and will always be, there’s nothing wrong with that, love,” Izuku confessed with a gentle tone, putting his hands behind the blond's neck.
His thumbs ruffled the delicate skin he adored more than any jewels he received until now, being the source of his brightest smile and tender confession that the wind couldn’t steal from his lips. He rested on his tiptoes to drop his lips against his husband’s cheeks and a soft laugh escaped from his lips when the blond blushed at the gesture. This vision was enough to convince the freckled man to fight every mountain and desert to let this endearing expression stay as long as possible on this gorgeous painting.
“Would it be selfish of me to take you on a date just to bring your stupid smirk back? I know a place that recently opened and the traffic might be light at the moment but we need to hurry up or there won’t be any place left.”
“Take the lead, freckles,” he replied with an amused tone.
Izuku felt a sudden weight on his arms, bringing him close enough to catch his husband’s lips separated by a few centimeters. Their heavy breath mixed together with a rising blush on his skin, recalling their first kiss that started this crazy journey. The omega welcomed Katsuki’s lips against his, sharing a public kiss that’ll probably be the center of the gossip for a while. Izuku smiled and rested his forehead against the blond's once they regained their breath, knowing his husband would never tire of this.
“Now we’re equal, dumbass.”
“You’re mean, but move your ass or we’ll eat on the floor of our house like the last time,” he teased with a punch on his shoulders, making the blond groan. At this moment, he realized how he wished to stay by this cute voice and gentle laugh that echoed as a lullaby to his ears for the rest of his life, but he started to cherish each moment as if they were the last.
—---
The visit to the doctor opened their eyes about the sudden emergency they couldn’t ignore anymore, leading them to learn sign language. Instead of considering it as a bother or reminder of their cruel reality, the two childhood friends decided to treat this as a challenge: the first one who knows the most at the end of the six months will own this winner title, a certification that the two men refused to give up. It was easier to consider things that way, knowing they didn’t need to spend the next weeks moping about something they couldn’t change….
The couple eventually agreed to talk to their friends and family about this big change.
It was probably the worst part to see their loved ones reacting to the news with teary eyes and sharing the same emotions as them. The first people they decided to see were their parents: After all, Inko, Mitsuki, and Masaru had been a major part of their growth and played an important role in their relationship. Delivering the news in such an abrupt way was unexpected, especially when their faces became teary at the fact that nothing could stop this. If Inko was sorry for the blond and offered him her support, it was different for Katsuki’s parents…who couldn’t digest the news.
After all, a simple glance at Izuku’s face let them know how the freckled man will never accept it neither, despite his fake smile to convince his surroundings. It was obvious the two men already talked about it, showing how they were aware of the huge changes it might have on their lives. Katsuki knew his parents were special, but he never expected them to rush into an unexpected embrace, explaining how they were sorry for not being able to protect him from such a thing…leading to them sobbing in each other’s arms. The calloused hands that took many villains to jail, ended up returning the hug, healing his inner child with the unconditional love from his parents.
This wasn’t easy for everyone, but seeing their genuine support brought a slight ounce of hope, as minimal as it was. This family reunion appeases the couple for a while, especially now that they have each other and loved ones for the rest of this journey. The couple decided to wait a few more days to announce it to their friends, especially after what happened with their parents earlier. The intense reactions couldn’t be handled twice in the same day, explaining why they simply showed up at a cafe, in the most isolated place in town, to avoid any reporters sharing the news before the Wonder Duo made it public.
Their friends weren’t stupid and noticed something was wrong for a few weeks, but they appreciated how Izuku and Katsuki felt confident enough to share it. However, none expected such a slap in the face when the words left the blond's mouth, creating an uncomfortable silence between them. The scarred hand held him tighter as a form of support, whispering how he was proud of him for having so much courage, making the taller man emotional. As expected, their friends couldn’t believe it, considering it some kind of bad joke, until they saw Izuku’s heartbroken glances and immediately knew how serious it was.
Many questions resided at the tip of their lips, the same interrogations the couple answered with complete honesty: the process, how many times Katsuki had before the inevitable ending. It was unbearable and yet, Katsuki couldn’t be happier to see their group of friends offering their help. They even agreed about switching the schedules if things become too hard to handle, trying to make this easier for Katsuki. For the moment, Katsuki chose to continue his job with casual habits, but one day he’ll be on his own on the battlefield with nothing left than a silent burial six feet underground.
Izuku felt the sudden panic when the callous hand shielded the smaller ones tightly. The freckled man decided to cheer himself up the same night by cooking his favorite food despite not being good at this recipe and adding a strong dose of spice. If the result was alright, he deeply appreciated how his husband tried to make him smile after those complicated days, letting him know without words how he was ready to choose him over the rest of the world.
It was natural to be afraid of the loss concerning their comfortable dynamic, but the two childhood friends will be fine…even if this reality still holds surprises.
—---
Three months had passed since the revelations of Katsuki’s condition.
If the tip of the iceberg was barely tolerable for them, they quickly realized how wrong they were. The appointment with the doctor became a regular visit, a place they started to hate as time passed by the results were clear: he was now at moderate Hearing loss, indicating how the hearing aids were necessary, with Katsuki being vulnerable to an uneasy situation. The doctor explained how it was important for Dynamight to want to hear conversations, being disadvantaged without their presence.
Suddenly, the jokes about him being an old granda didn’t sound amusing anymore. Don’t get them wrong, Izuku and Katsuki made a lot of progress since their introduction to sign language, being each other’s teacher with clear evolutions…but it started to feel more like a bother than a simple game. The first signs started to show up: It was discreet enough to be transcribed into hidden gestures or signs the couple sent to each other during their emotional breakdown.
The pain will stay there for the rest of their lives, such as the promises they’ve made on the altar. What a cruel joke made by fate to create a parallel between the most important event of their lives, to the most heartbreaking ones. The couple slowly signed their downfall for new beginnings which generally sounds scarier than any nightmares they’ve faced until now. Izuku and Katsuki had to stay strong and pretend in front of each other, using fake smiles, while having their back covered by their friends at work.
Pretending was easier than showing an ounce of vulnerability in this society. Wearing this fake mask, and putting a distance with their inner conflict became their only way to survive, with the couple being nothing but a puppet of this twist of fate. Everything seemed great on the outside, with casual teasing despite the recurrent absence of Dynamight in missions, but their secret was safe for the moment.
However, it doesn’t stop the taller man from slowly realizing what was happening: The first time he used those hearing aids, he felt an uncomfortable sensation rising inside his chest, giving him the impression of being weaker than he already was. He convinced himself it was all in his head, being the result of constant overthinking, but his false masquerade didn’t work with Izuku, who knew him better than anyone. The omega immediately noticed the hidden tears residing at the corner of the crimson eyes, waiting to meet his porcelain skin
As a caring husband, he supported his childhood friend as much as he could, with tender promises, and kisses to remind him how amazing he still was to his eyes. Katsuki believed him, especially with the shaking tone coming from Izuku’s lips, the way his fragile hands held him tighter and his lips kissed his knuckles. Sometimes the blond was panicking, and the freckled man had no other choice than rushing into the taller man’s chest to hold him as close as possible. Those moments were often highlighted by the intensity of time passing by, as Katsuki progressively lost his hearing, afraid to forget his husband’s voice when the time came.
Izuku was afraid of this possibility and even shared his concerns about that. Since the beginning of this downfall, the green-haired man never gave up and wasn’t going to leave this poor soul alone with those dangerous thoughts that might convince him to make a no-return decision. He cherished each occasion as if they were the last, sharing more laughs and love confessions with the hope of letting them forge into the alpha’s mind.
Katsuki didn’t deserve any of this, but the couple tried to make this as easy as possible for their shattered hearts. They authorized themselves to have breakdowns from time to time when the night comes, with their bodies holding each other like there was no tomorrow. The green messy curls often rested against this quick heartbeat that echoed as his favorite lullaby, feeling the calloused fingers playing with his hair, while the scarred fingers rested against his skin.
It felt strange to live the last months with the fear of losing this privilege of hearing each other’s laugh overnight…but they tried their best, even when sincere apologies escaped from their lips.
—-----
Six months had passed since the first visit with the doctor and their time was up.
The older man pointed out how the last result showed an evident decline, facing a truth they’ve tried to avoid for so long: At this point, the tender chuckle they shared in this competition concerning sign language classes transformed into necessity, being heavier each time they tried to apply it with exercises. Their mental health wasn’t at their best, with constant reminders of a world filled with complete silence, and memories to hold until death do them part.
It was unfair to be the one having this chance to use his hearing when the man he loved would lose this capacity soon! Izuku even asked if there was a way to take his and give it back to the blond, even if this means giving up his only chance to hear Kacchan’s voice last time. Unfortunately, even with the help of the best quirk, this was impossible, plunging the freckled into a profound despair, under the comprehensive expression on his husband’s face.
Katsuki never doubted a single second about how much he loves his childhood friend, especially with all the sacrifices they’ve made in the last six months. The freckled man strained every nerve to make the man he loved happier than ever in those difficult times, he even brought him to many dates and made sure the blond had the time of his life. This strategy seemed to work when his face, previously turned apart by tears, became lighter at every sound in his surroundings, almost like he enjoyed them for the last time.
Each glance shared with his husband was often followed by a soft laugh, stupid comment, or tender “I love you”, that immediately colored the blond’s cheeks into a deep red. If Izuku handled all this pressure on his shoulders, he welcomed the call for help made by his mate during a desperate time, explaining how he wouldn’t leave, even if this meant standing against the entire world to protect his loved ones.
Those delicate fingers ruffled the spiky hair, caressed his skin, and cherished his body as his biggest pride, making sure the alpha wouldn’t be the target of his overthinking He remained Katsuki Bakugo, with or without audition, and was Izuku’s biggest hero, which was enough to convince the taller man to stay stronger a little longer until his final breakdown.
The night became their favorite moment of the day, where each confession naturally escaped from their lips as heartbreaking truths. Shaking fingers interlaced with each other above the sheet, with Izuku’s lips kissing their knuckles and praising their beauty. Heavy tears resided at the corners of their lips as the days passed by, with time moving faster than the changes of a new season, leaving their lifeless souls in this endless circle. It’s not like the couple wanted to have this hell to be done once and for all and get used to their new lifestyle…on the contrary, they wanted to stay as long as possible in this embrace, feeling each other's warmth.
However, some nights were more stressful than others, highlighted by their bodies resting against each other, with nothing else than meaningful gestures to transcribe their mutual affection. At this point, it became evident that Katsuki needed his hearing aid unless Izuku wanted to talk to a wall: If he hated this sensation of wearing such a thing he slowly got used to it and accepted his fate until this thing would no longer be usable. Izuku was reassured to see how his husband made peace with these conflicts that gave him the impression of being weak, but this issue was easily solved after the constant praise and reminders from his childhood friend.
In all honesty, the blond was very admiring of Izuku’s efforts, proving to him once again, how falling in love with the same person twice, was easier than breathing. He didn’t hesitate to use his voice and let his truth reach the omega’s lips, under his adorable blush, acting like teenagers who received their first love confession. Those string hands wrapped around his waist, drawing circles on his naked skin after the marks they left from their previous activities. The messy curls rested against this warmth, feeling the curious fingers playing with his hair in the heavy atmosphere in the room.
The two men denied this reality for too long but Katsuki became the puppet of this hearing aid that brought an ounce of hope to his old life, knowing his days were now counted. No matter how hard they prayed to get their old life back….things will never be the same. It must explain why the closer they got to the ultimate delay announced by the doctor, the more anxious they became; the freckled man took his days off to stand by his lover’s side, making him happy before fate took this treasure away. Katsuki appreciated the gesture and wished he could return the favor, but a simple glance was enough to see how the fact of being alive was all the freckled man ever wanted.
“Aren’t you scared ?” Izuku’s voice asked in the previous silence, feeling the moving blanket above their naked skin. His thumbs ruffled this delicate skin, hurt too many times by a cruel set of circumstances, and cherished by his selfish eyes, who loved him as a whole instead of a simple trophy. The answer was obvious and it would be stupid to repeat something they’ve already talked about a thousand times until now, but he knew the blond wouldn’t be mad at him for checking on his state.
“I’m terrified,” he whispered, letting the wind transport his words to the freckled man’s ears.
There was no need to deny the truth he kept hidden for so long, especially after everything they’ve been through in the last six months, but they managed to have memorable souvenirs. Katsuki finally understood what his husband meant in his explanation about considering their present as a whole. He was glad to share this moment with the man he loved and his loved ones, knowing this was also impacting their lives.
“I learned to live with a hearing aid despite its strange sensation, but I know it’ll be a complete shock when it’s no longer usable. This means it’ll be the end of every effort and attempt to save this situation, facing a bigger rival I can't fight. So yes, I’m fucking terrified what is waiting for me once the time has come, but i’m holding on to the memories and the reminder that i’m not alone, as long as you stand by my side, even if that sounds cheesy.”
“Look at you, being all romantic all of a sudden, I love this side of you, I think I’ll never get tired of it,” Izuku added with an amused tone.
He’ll always be surprised by the way this stubborn man, ready to kick anyone's ass, could transcribe the prettiest lines of his favorite poem, knowing the freckled man was his muse. He was selfish enough to freeze time and stay in his embrace until the sun rose and the city grew old, while their souls stayed as young as the first day they fell for each other. It was another wildest dream that might never happen, forced to see the damage of time against their favorite narrative.
“I don’t really know what I’m supposed to do if you’re out of reach, no matter if it’s my imagination or real life. We've lived through so many things and yet, I have the impression our journey just started …isn’t it cruel to take away the only thing keeping us alive and our hope ?”
“I wish I had the answer, but they’ll never take away this bond we forged, being a precious gift decades can’t erase,” the blond pointed out, dropping a light kiss against his messy hair.
The calloused fingers slowly fell on those lost curls to put them behind the omega’s ears, until his thumbs caressed the pale cheeks. It was heartwrenching to know that he’ll live in a world where he won’t wake up with the beautiful sound of Izuku’s snores or light mumbles in his sleep. If he knew earlier, he would’ve made things differently, but he refused to change his past: each dates and souvenirs he created with his husband in the last six months proved how much their bond was ethereal with the same teary eyes and shitty smile on their faces that were meant to last a lifetime.
“We both know fighting against it will never be enough… and it’s probably the hardest part to accept. You’re so close and yet, what will happen when you stand at the same distance with these differences between our worlds ?” Izuku asked with a concerned tone.
He appreciated the previous confessions and knew those promises were meant to last for a lifetime, but it was difficult to handle all of this with this guilt eating him from inside. “I’m nothing without you and if something happens to you, I’ll be devastated. Don’t get me wrong, I know we have to face this together, but I’m scared of losing you, promise me you’ll be mine until death do us part.”
“They’re vows I can keep, no matter the universe separating us in our next lives,” the blond confessed with a soft tone, cupping his chubby cheeks.
Izuku melted into the touch until the taller man gave him a sign to move closer, forcing their shadows to get into a better position. The bedsheet was now pushed aside, revealing the shorter man standing on the blond's lap until Katsuki slowly guided his thumbs against his own skin. The freckled man held back his tears, realizing how he wasn’t ready to see this happiness disappear, and yet, he was doomed to fall for the charming tricks of his mate, who promised the world in the palm of his hand.
“Listen to me, you’ve done more than enough to keep me mentally sane and I’ll be forever grateful for your sacrifices. You shouldn’t handle all this pressure on your poor shoulders, not when your pain became mine since this promise we sealed on the altar, as symbolic as it seems to your romantic ass. This is not your fault and never has been, you’re all I ever wanted and I couldn't be happier to spend the rest of my life with the same idiot who followed me at my worst.”
“But it’ll be different,” he whispered, welcoming the calloused fingers erasing the tears. He learned into the touch, holding his breath, and caught the few centimeters separating their lips until he pressed his forehead against the blond's. He felt those welcoming hands wrapped around his exposed waist, ignoring the fresh breeze from the slightly open windows, stealing their whispers away. “I don’t know what I would do if I had to live in a world without a reminder of your presence. You’re my everything and knowing you’ll struggle even more in silence makes me more worried than I already am. Don’t blame me for falling in love with an idiot like you when you’re my biggest dream…I care about you, and if there’s anything I can do to ease this pain…I’ll do it without hesitation.”
“Then trust me for the rest of your life and stay by my side, that’s all I’m asking, knowing that having you there is my biggest pride,” it was rare to see Katsuki Bakugo whispering intimate promises, but he would always have a soft spot for his childhood friend and love of his life. This situation was hurting him too, especially when he considered those words as final promises that’ll follow him until death do them apart.but he had no other choice than following the unknown. “I know, it’s scary but we got each other’s back…with or without stupid hearing aid, I’ll still be the same Kacchan that brightened your childhood and married your stupid ass. The rest is on us, but I know it’ll be fine, it’s just a question of time before finding our new everyday.”
“I don’t want to lose you,” Izuku whispered with a sob that echoed as a poignant melody to the blond’s ears. His strong hand brought the shaking figure closer as the freckled man immediately rested his head against his chest. During a moment, their two souls acted like children afraid of the storm and finding reassurance in each other’s arms; nothing mattered more than their husband and the delicate promises they signed on this tender night. The slight sobs echoed in the room, realizing how the taller man was probably tearing up too, due to the slight movements of his hands, afraid to let him go.
“And you won’t, no matter what happens in the future, my heart and soul will be yours,” Katsuki replied with a loving tone, losing his lips into the messy curls as they both stayed in each other’s arms for the rest of the night. A bunch of “I love you” and “I'm here” followed until tiredness took the lead over their exhausted bodies. The next morning, the golden-haired man woke up with the shorter man inside his arms and soft snores, rubbing his thumbs against his lost curls, and a light kiss against his forehead.
The future was still unknown, but the rest of the journey was worth the try if this meant taking the risk to create a new kind of happy ending.
—---
Two days later,
This morning, Katsuki Bakugo woke up from a sweet dream.
He remembered the adorable smile of his childhood friend in the garden, the sweat falling down his forehead, and the excited expression on his face. His voice called his name from afar, sharing with pride his new discovery, with dirty hands, and yet, the blond felt safe in this perfect illusion of what his happy ending was supposed to look like. This stupid face that caught his heart years ago, transforming his journey into a breathtaking tale until it became a common one to share instead of a separate one.
Their words, so different on the outside, ended up merging together to create the best illusion that guided their souls into new beginnings, starting a naive first kiss that became a casual habit years later. The golden-haired man was convinced an entire lifetime wouldn’t be enough to admire his husband’s beauty, and share how much he was grateful for everything. Izuku didn’t need a trophy or beautiful promises to be charmed, but a single glance of love was enough to transform those concerned emerald eyes into a loving expression on his face. The sound of moving bedsheets echoed in the silent room, with the loud background noises of people shouting in the street for this new day, living their own narrative they could share later with the curious stars.
Katsuki’s legs moved under the source of warmth, meeting an obstacle on his path that forced him to open his eyes and see the reason for this sudden awakening. The blind light forced him to open his eyes to meet the sleeping figure beside him, with his open lips and slight snore he could distinguish from here. His face looks like a mess under this angle and yet, the blond admired this touching scene; his fingers ruffled the messy curls until he caught the slight smile crossing Izuku’s face at the reassuring gesture.
The conversation he shared with his husband a few days ago replayed in his mind and the taller man naturally moved the sheet without rough movements, trying not to awaken the shorter man, apparently glued to him with his lovely face.
With enough effort and a groan, his fingers succeeded in getting his drawer to let his thumbs reach his hearing aid: The first time he started this habit, he felt guilty of something he never committed, and yet, he reached a certain phase where his hearing was severely damaged. The iron material appeared at the palm of his hand, taking a quick glimpse at his surroundings: Despite his new habits, he genuinely feared the moment when he would have to say goodbye to his domestic lifestyle and Izuku’s voice.
A quick glance at the sleeping figure made him smile, while putting the iron against his fragile skin. His fingers pressed the button to turn it on, waiting for a sign until, no heavy sound that made him groan at the uncomfortable sensation and no accentuated background noises, appeared on the other side. At first, he thought it was a mistake by putting them in the wrong way so he started again, trying not to wake his mate on their way. His fingers tried a second time and the heartbreaking revelation acted like a slap in the face.
It was too late, he was doomed to eternal silence for the rest of his life.
The hearing aid that used to represent an important source of conflicts became no longer usable, such as the frames crossing his mind about the conversation he shared with Izuku the last night: They talked about what they were going to eat tomorrow, or if they should go to a restaurant to change their mind. Izuku confessed that he wouldn’t mind going anywhere, as long as he got Katsuki by his side, it was all that mattered to him.
The blond answered with a stupid comment that made the freckled man smile, until they rested together on the couch to cuddle. If he knew it was the last time he would hear Izuku’s gentle laugh, he would’ve done something else: keep him awake the entire night, share his fears about this new happy ending….but it was too late.
Too late to confess how much he was afraid, too late to confess his last word and final confession, too late to explain how he wouldn’t wish for a better future than the one he currently has. Too late to apologize for leaving all those souvenirs behind, with a bittersweet taste on his lips that couldn’t open, despite his desperate attempts to make a final plea. Unfortunately, fate mocked him in the worst way possible, transforming his illusion of hope into ashes in the air, transported by the same wind that crossed his face at the exact moment.
He never knew how his world, previously highlighted by the tender snore and mumbles of his husband, laughter from his friends, and conversation from his surroundings, was a genuine treasure to cherish. He was doomed to nothing but a sentiment of failure Failure for ruining his last chance to say “I love you” and hear the man he loves returning the compliment, failure for being nothing but useless from now on, and failure for losing everything overnight. He underestimated how precious those frames of his past would be compared to this terrible and suffocating silence surrounding him, forcing him to be nothing but a shell of himself.
Katsuki knew it would happen, but he never thought it would be this harsh. A thousand stabs in the chest would hurt less than the emergence of suffering inside his shattered heart, tears falling down his cheeks and calloused hands holding his fists with a groan that refused to leave his lips. The great Dynamight and devoted husband was now reduced to nothing but shame on his existence for giving up instead of keeping his promises…..
He missed hearing those stupid neighbors who shared loud conversations in the morning, Izuku’s comments about them taking holidays soon, and notifications on his phone from his friends to hang out soon. He missed hearing the sound of the plane above his head, he missed those constant noises of footsteps in the streets, and dogs barking at him, he envied the people who could cherish those sounds, as annoying as they might be at the moment. This silence was only the beginning, but he already wanted to pray the stars to have his hearing back….one last time before starting from zero a chapter he never wanted in the first place.
Unfortunately, this abrupt news will ruin his loved ones’ lives, something he wanted to avoid. He knew his friends would be hurt by the revelations, his parents heartbroken but Izuku…he’ll be devastated. It was the same man who whispered last night how much his heartbeat was his favorite song, the same moving on the bed and was woken up by the sounds that became indescribable for the blond. The calloused hands started to shake, holding his fist tighter until he felt the slight blood appearing from the injuries he had probably created. The suffering was too much to handle, even for a strong soldier like him, who faced death at a very close angle.
His world became a complete silence, drowning him six feet underground.
The urge to scream crossed his trembling lips, under the moving shadow beside him. This time, he couldn’t hear the slight yawn leaving Izuku’s lips, the sound of the bedsheets against their skin, and the sound of cars in their familiar neighborhood. He was stuck, unable to move in his own terror as he kept his head down, avoiding the shameful expression the freckled man would probably give him. His nails hit the injuries on his palm deeper, feeling the pain invading his body, but it was nothing compared to the one inside his chest, transforming his heart into thousands of thorns that used to welcome new beginnings.
Izuku immediately noticed something was wrong when he saw the hearing aid thrown on the bed beside him, with the system turned on, based on the uncomfortable sound echoing in the room. He wanted to ask why they were thrown apart when his husband would casually put them and welcome him with kisses or stupid teasing…but the atmosphere in the room suddenly tensed when his emerald eyes caught the trace of blood on the white sheet. He immediately rushed into the taller figure, losing his fingers against this trembling skin, and watched with horror the damage caused by something he hadn’t seen coming.
“Shit, shit, shit- Kacchan, can you hear me? What happened-” His voice mumbled with a distressed tone, realizing how the taller man kept his head down the entire time.
His heart missed a beat when he moved the weak fingers against the blond's chin, slowly lifting his head until his face turned pale at the terrifying scene under his eyes. Izuku wished he could put his hands on his mouth to cover the slight gasp that escaped from his lips when he watched the crimson eyes looking at him with tears, if not sobs. At this moment, the freckled man rushed into the bathroom to get a first aid kit, and returned with the heartbreaking sob of his mate filling the room, while putting the bandage on his fragile skin, too afraid to speak.
He moved his thumbs against his cheeks, cupping them to get a reaction but the blond refused to talk, even when the freckled man begged him to answer. He didn’t want to use this solution, not so early when they had a plan for the nights…but he needed a confirmation his heart wanted to avoid. With trembling fingers, he started to use sign language to formulate the very first sentence that’ll haunt him for the rest of his life.
“Is it too late ?”
The crimson teary eyes looked at him with a heartwrenching expression, making light movements, under the surprised emerald irises. Izuku held his breath, hoping it was a bad dream and yet, he felt his heart shatter when he watched his husband signing his messages, acting like a stab in the heart.
“I’m sorry, I wasn’t strong enough,” he replied with sign language, facing the sudden transformation on the freckled man’s face.
His lips released a sound the blond couldn’t hear, but their pain became one the moment the messy curls rested against his chest. The only thing Katsuki could do was hold him closer despite not saying a single word due to the shock he faced earlier, having a tough time being used to this new lifestyle that would be nothing but a pain in the assr to his future plans. Izuku didn’t know the last time he shared so many tears and yet, he couldn’t stop his sobs in, with his begs that were now unreachable to the man who stood so close and yet so far from him. Don’t get him wrong, he admired his childhood friend for standing so long against this tough obstacle they’ve never seen coming, but this time, they’ve been both defeated.
His scarred fingers held the exposed skin with a tight grip, releasing all the suffering he had handled in the last six months, realizing how his nightmare had become his new reality. He cursed the stars for ruining everything, for taking away the man he loved and his source of happiness!. At this moment, the green-haired was ready to take the world down for a second chance to save his mate, but even with the doctor’s recommendation, this fate was inevitable…
“I’m so sorry I couldn't save you when you needed me the most,” Izuku mumbled with a heart-wrenching tone, stepping away to wipe the tears rolling down his cheeks. He hated the fact that yesterday was the last time his childhood friend heard his voice; if he knew, he would’ve kept him by his side the entire night and talked about how many times he fell in love with him, instead of laughing about stupid things that weren’t worth mentioning. “I’m so sorry for not being strong enough to protect you and let such a thing happen…I apologize for letting fate choose you instead of me when you didn’t deserve any of this. Suddenly, I’m not strong anymore, not when the man I loved will be forever changed by this twist of fate.”
Even if Katsuki couldn’t hear what the freckled man had to say, he easily guessed how the nerd was probably apologizing based on the expression on his face he recognized everywhere. He noticed how the trembling fingers tried to make some movements, find the right words to say, but he wasn’t strong enough. The alpha’s face turned sadder, and he immediately brought the shaking figure into an unexpected embrace, realizing how not hearing Izuku’s sobs was a bittersweet ending.
This distance between their worlds will never separate the genuine bond between them, but this pain was unbearable…leaving their shattered souls to be crushed together in a failed fight they weren’t supposed to win. Izuku’s face became tired with the number of tears he shared since the heartbreaking revelation and yet, he rested his head against the fast heartbeat and felt those calloused hands against his back, holding him like there was no tomorrow. Izuku and Katsuki will hold onto this illusion of beatitude and yet, their breakdown was justified by the apprehension they handled in the last six months, unaware of how reality would act like a thousand stabs in their hearts.
The two shadows never left their room the entire day.
Their phones were turned off as scarred finger shielded the blond's chest tighter, and the alpaha stayed silent, barely processing what happened this morning. Their loved ones must be worried for them, but they didn’t care: The only thing that mattered was how the freckled man released all the tears he kept hidden for too long, to the point of skipping meals even if the blond begged him to drink water. Katsuki had never seen his husband in such a devastated situation, with his emerald eyes being replaced by fat tears around his cheeks, almost like something was taken away from him this morning.
—---
Katsuki didn’t speak the first day, he didn’t show any improvement during the first week of his new state…until Izuku realized how the shock transformed the man he loved into a shell of himself, go to speak again. He cried for multiple reasons, for his husband’s suffering, hidden glance, and sudden distance…but he also sobbed due to the reminder that he’ll probably never hear his husband’s voice ever again, and it was something he never planned.
The silence in the house became unbearable, longing for the day when he would hear his mate’s stupid comment he missed more than anything. The sudden realization about a life without his childhood friend, crossed his mind more than once, offering a bitter taste on his lips; it was unthinkable to picture a universe without this charming grin and slight tease that brightened his days!. The omega convinced his mate about how he would always love him the same, no matter if he was the smallest guy on Earth or the most stubborn one. The blond signed a light “thanks”, revealing how he only acted that way to not concern his husband, already dead worried about his state.
Katsuki was covering his pain with constant lies, giving a tragic impression of deja vu to the freckled man, who wanted to forget about their dark days. The couple already talked about that a long time ago, and established an important statement based on mutual communication if things go wrong. Until now, they didn’t have any issues with this, but everything changed since this fateful morning.
Izuku rested after his husband's shift, despite the late hour, to check on him. He made sure to tell about his day, especially how different things became since the sudden loss of his husband’s hearing. There was nothing wrong with sharing their fears, and Katsuki understood how he messed up when he saw his childhood friend begging for answers. The only thing he could offer was an embrace and a light kiss against his forehead, but it wasn’t enough….
The hardest part was to make a final visit to the hospital and bring back the hearing aid, and send a direct message to the man who took care of their case. That day, Katsuki stayed discreet as Izuku explained everything, avoiding another breakdown in public.
“I…I don’t think we need them anymore. Thanks for your help, at least Kacchan and I had the luck to enjoy every new souvenir,” the freckled man said with a low tone, returning the material under the affected expression on the doctor’s face.
“I’m sincerely sorry for what happened to your husband, trust me I would’ve done anything to save his case and the thousands of people in the same situation, but we don’t have any remedy yet. Good luck for the rest of the journey and I’m sending you my courage to your husband and you,” the older man explained with a comprehensive tone, realizing how he shouldn’t twist the knife in the back even more, especially after the freckled man’s reaction.
Their friends easily understood this situation when they saw Katsuki being sadder than usual, but the confirmation from the freckled man broke their hearts. Suddenly it started to make sense why their friend, who usually loves to brag in public, became a shell of himself and was completely silenced. None really realized the emergency of the situation until the freckled started to use sign language, instead of his casual teasing. It was evident how the couple struggled with this sudden slap in the face, offered as a poisoned present in their perfect life, but things became more complicated when the media started to mess with their nerves.
It was clear how Dynamight was less present than usual on the battlefield, and more distant from the public interview he was supposed to give. His victories started to get abruptly reduced, his friends taking the lead and the spotlight in the media, until Izuku decided to break the silence and reveal everything, with his husband’s authorization. The media didn’t hesitate to turn Izuku’s speech, based on an explanation about how Dynamight was still the hero everyone adored, into a bunch of lies. The big news highlighted the possibility of seeing Dynamight saying goodbye to his career, unaware of the damage they’ve caused to the blond's personal life.
Katsuki was forced to watch their bullshit convince people about a truth that’ll never happen: He couldn’t give up his biggest dream due to some hearing loss, when many people in the same case as him continued their lives as nothing happened. He refused to be the exception to the rule, his anger started to transcribe into his tight fist, until the scarred hands rested against his spiky hair, signing “Everything will be fine, I’ll take care of this situation”. His husband might’ve underestimated how efficient the freckled man was, knowing Izuku’s public appearance was now relayed on social media.
Izuku made it clear: If someone tried to bring him or his husband down with lies to gain money on their misery, he’ll bring those assholes to justice. Things started to calm down after this event; the media were focused on different targets to bully, while the Wonder Duo continued to live with this bitterness inside their chest. Izuku was the one who saw the clear changes and hated himself for not being enough, he had the impression of betraying his promises, and seeing the man he loved being completely distant was worse than he ever imagined.
One night, he decided to take the lead and open his heart, even if those confessions differed from the loving ones they shared before the accident. He looked into the crimson eyes before moving to his knees, being at the same height as the distant alpha. He explained how he was tired of fighting against ghosts of his past, and begged his mate to share his pain with the hope of making it lighter on their fragile shoulders.
“I’ll deal with this on my own, I refuse to let you handle this mess after everything you’ve been through. We both know your happiness is my main priority,” Katsuki signed with a fast movement, something the freckled man was unable to understand, but succeeded in guessing with the choice of his words.
“Then talk to me, let me know each of your thoughts, and don’t keep this pain until you explode. You already faced a similar case and know how it ended…I’m scared. I don’t want to see our relationship falling apart because of a misunderstanding, I love you too much for that,” he signed back with the knowledge he had about a language he struggles with. It wasn’t perfect, but the freckled man started to get used to this way of communication, especially when it became essential between them.
“And I love you too, more than anything, but it’s not easy…especially when you have the impression of being a burden,“ the taller man confessed with a heart-wrenching expression on his face.
He missed the old days when he was able to use his voice to communicate, but he didn’t feel ready at the moment to return to his old habit This tragedy had already taken too many things from him, and it was inconceivable not to hear his husband’s voice and his praise. Everything was so different from his expectations, but he had no other choice than following this path and seeing where it led…
“Kacchan,” the shorter man sighed, moving to the taller figure.
His fingers met the golden spiky hair until his thumbs cupped his cheeks, the blond learned into the touch, until their forehead met. The freckled man made sure to give him space while caressing the blush in Katsuki’s cheeks, he tried his best to refine this skill, but Katsuki appreciated the slight mistakes that often made him grin, even if it often lasted for a few seconds.
“You’re the strongest person I know, and my everything. Without you, I’m nothing because we are a whole: there’s no Deku without Kacchan. You’re not a bother to me, but my biggest pride,” he signed with a slight mumble escaping his lips, a sound the blond would’ve loved to hear one last time if he wasn’t ready to tear up at the previous confessions.
At the end, their worlds might differ, but this invisible string stayed the same, with the exact stolen kisses, and slight smiles exchanged, even if it has become rare nowadays. Katsuki was afraid of this new beginning; such like Izuku, but they both tried their best, even if this meant facing their biggest fear to get their old dynamic back.
That night, the roles were reversed with Izuku losing his fingers into Katsuki’s back, when the blond simply considered his warmth as a source of reassurance. It didn’t take long before seeing the sleeping figure of the alpha in this reassuring atmosphere, with Izuku, kissing his forehead and whispering how much he loved him.
—---
It took a while before Katsuki accepted therapy, but he had no other choice.
After all, six months had passed since this fateful morning and his mental health kept degrading; he was ready to make this sacrifice to bring a smile back on his husband’s face He was touched to see how Izuku wanted to follow him and make sure they would both heal together. The first time he met his therapist, he stayed discreet and explained the tip of the iceberg until it became a regular habit to let this extra listen to his rent.
Izuku and he successfully found someone able to understand and share a conversation in sign language, making everything easier for the taller man and his slow progress. If the golden-haired man often left the building with light tears at the tip of his eyes, he was often welcomed by Izuku’s warmth outside the room, signing how proud he was. Those tender moments started to repeat themselves until they offered a semblance of routine, where the couple slowly found their own rhythm and applied their therapist's advice
The two childhood friends might’ve underestimated how this simple therapy session opened the door to many occasions and new beginnings. This time, the two men started to relive their past experiences from a different angle, accepting them as their new first. It was scary to hang out in public, especially with all the glances focused on them, but Izuku reassured him the entire time. They might not be able to hear each other’s voice anymore, but the meaningful gestures such as handholding of stolen kisses, erased their worries.
One day, the freckled man surprised his lover by asking him on a date, acting like teenagers in love when their golden rings on their fingers reflected a story deeper than a casual fling. Izuku made sure to convince his husband to trust him for this surprise, as Katsuki agreed and found himself relieved to see the familiar building. He slowly accepted changes, and will never forget the memories of their two shadows crossing this place years ago, with a rising blush on their cheeks for their very first date. It was touching to see Izuku giving so much effort to let his childhood friend know about his support, even when he didn’t need to, based on the tender expression on those crimson eyes.
Slowly but surely, the two men decided to have more dates, hang out with their friends who started to learn about sign language to include him in the conversation, and make a visit to their respective families. Before realizing it, a year had passed since this morning that marked this unexpected twist in their domestic lives, but the couple started to adapt at their own rhythm.
Suddenly, those silent mornings weren’t as terrifying as they appeared on the outside, and the public dates became a new source of comfort, such as personal intimacy. Izuku was still heartbroken to see his mate distant, but he tried his best to offer the life Kacchan deserved, especially when he was the target of this unfair situation.
It took them two years before returning to their old dynamic. Katsuki was still silent but finally accepted his hearing loss and decided to move on, instead of digging his own grave. There were a bunch of changes he needed to get used to, but he’ll be forever grateful for everything his beloved husband did to bring a smile back to his face.
Once he got enough confidence to return the gesture, he didn’t hesitate to cover those stupid cheeks with kisses, picturing the soft giggle that melted his heart years ago, and offer him the comfort Izuku needed. This time, it was the freckled man who became the victim of those seducing smirks, being cherished by his childhood friend. He wouldn’t wish for a better reward than gentle lips chasing after his, in their silent room, with scarred hands cupping Katsuki’s cheeks, and a slight “I love you” confessed with a sigh.
Don’t get them wrong, there were a bunch of obstacles to meet, such as Katsuki’s career who slowly returned to their casual habits, but they’ll be fine. Izuku didn’t need to sign this worry to read how the blond shared the same opinion, especially when he regained color to his face….which was Izuku’s biggest pride.
—----
Izuku should’ve expected this eventuality, but the two lines appearing on the pregnancy test erased the doubts that previously filled his chest.
He didn’t remember the last time he felt this excited since his wedding, and yet, it caught him by surprise. Don’t get him wrong, it’s not like their sexual life was inactive either, it was amazing to see how their healing journey succeeded in transforming their worries into promises in bed, becoming their favorite part of the day. Katsuki had always shown so much care for his body during their intimacy, making the freckled man fall harder for this impressive shadow that followed him since they were in diapers.
Those lovely nights represented the most vulnerable confessions with bright smiles on their faces, gentle caresses against each other’s cheeks, and stolen kisses able to make the strongest soldier blush due to their ethereal beauty. After all, it was everything he ever wanted; a child and family with the man he loved, offering him the world if he made the selfish request. This pup was the biggest gift they’ll treasure from fate, who previously caused their downfall, before apologizing with an unexpected miracle.
Today, he couldn’t imagine a better person to take this role of protective father, caring about their child, and being the source of their smiles. The simple idea that this wildest dream became his reality warmed his chest, losing his fingers into the fabric of his shirt, realizing what this change does imply in their situation.
Despite the overwhelming gaiety filling his body and the tears falling down his cheeks, he acknowledged the presence of second thoughts. After all, it was everything he ever wanted; a child and family with the man he loved, sharing half of his soul, and offering him the world if he made the selfish request. This pup was the biggest gift they’ll treasure from fate, who previously caused their downfall, before apologizing with an unexpected miracle. However, Izuku felt the sudden pressure on his shoulders at the idea that this innocent life was now in his hands: each of his choices would have a direct impact on this child’s life, no matter if he liked it or not! The freckled man already lost the love of his life with the sudden hearing loss, but he refused to make this tragedy happen a second time with this pup.
He was scared of making mistakes for a first-time parent even if it was inevitable, scared of messing things up and being the one to blame if something happened to their child. He wanted to be enough, represented by this source of comfort he found in his mother’s arms when he was younger. This time, the roles were reversed and he was the one offering the best of life for this pup. His mother succeeded in raising him with proper values, and it worked perfectly fine! Inko faced the same situation as him, with a new first, and had absolutely no idea about what she was doing for this future she wanted to protect at all costs. It would be reassuring to ask for advice from her or even Katsuki’s parents once they learned the news…. if they decide to keep this child.
It felt strange to imagine a human residing inside his stomach, being too early to even have a baby bump. His heavy breath echoed in the room and his hands unconsciously lost their way against his stomach. He started to question the rest of this adventure, with unconventional ups and downs. After all, Izuku was capable of making conversations with their child, but Katsuki was excluded from this bonding moment that was supposed to be theirs. Once again, the guilt of having this chance stolen from the man he loved, felt like a burden on his vulnerable shoulders.
This should’ve been a situation in their favor, but became a blessing and a curse at the same time for their different narratives. The blond deserved to be a part of this pup’s life, hear the cries, and the first words. His vision became blurry from the previous tears, fingers holding his shirt tighter with remorse. The couple already talked about that, multiple times, but it was painful to see the clear distinction between their different realities.
His thoughts naturally derived into his husband’s reaction. The craziest thing with his mate was how he was unfazed! If Katsuki wanted to have a talk about this serious topic and everything it involved in their lives, Izuku was ready to take the risk; it was the least he could do after seeing the efforts made by his husband to cheer him up over the last years. What scared him the most was the possibility of rejection that’ll bring a certain distance between them, afraid to repeat a bittersweet impression of deja-vu.
This time, it was a topic to take very seriously and the discussion will be considered important for the rest of their narratives. The two childhood friends agreed to avoid their previous mistakes, even if this meant sharing painful truths that led to heavy tears on their porcelain skin. Knowing the blond, Izuku would probably consider a positive reaction from his part; surprised for sure, but maybe he wouldn’t mind welcoming this child into their lives.
His fingers caressed the naked skin under his shirt, feeling his thumbs against those layers that separated him from the life that was smaller than an apple. He rested his back against the wall with a smile on his face. He couldn’t believe how he got the right to cherish this happy ending, offered on a silver platter, like an apology for the tears the two childhood friends wasted in the past.
A sudden sound caught his attention, forcing him to lift his head as the silent house now echoed with a door closing itself in the living room. Izuku sincerely missed the “I’m home” from his husband with a grin on his lips, but nostalgia won’t bring back their old lives. The blond was probably looking for him, forcing Izuku to leave his secret spot and wiping his last tears away. A quick glance at his reflection in the mirror gave him enough confidence to face whatever was expected of him outside this room, knowing he needed to talk about this as soon as possible.
His shadow appeared in the living room with a curious smile. The emerald eyes lost themselves in the charming crimson irises, who looked at him with surprise until the taller man moved closer. The calloused hands left the bags he previously held, to move into the messy curls to catch the soft chuckle leaving the omega’s lips. Izuku learned into the touch, offering a slight kiss on his forehead, until he caught the blond smiling his concerns.
“Are you alright? You look like shit,” Katsuki signed with worries. Izuku felt the sudden anxiety filling his chest, but he couldn’t step back… After all, they’ve both deserved to share happy tears, instead of heartbreaking sobs.
“I’m fine, happier than ever,” he signed back with a soft grin, realizing how this behavior probably caused more troubles than actual help. Izuku knew his husband might figure this out and he would’ve felt bad for learning the good news by logical reasoning, instead of learning it from his mate. The freckled man was strong enough to take his courage and face the rest of the story…no matter the outcome of this conversation.
“Don’t lie to me, something happened when I was gone,” Katsuki signed with an unconvinced tone. At this moment, Izuku realized how he couldn’t find a better future than this one, with a small head running in their living room, wearing their dad's genes, being the result of genuine love. Katsuki wasn’t naive and recognized this face at a glance, but he decided to let the nerd express himself about this mysterious secret that brought a stupid smile to his face. “Tell me…we both know your pain is mine.”
Izuku will always be admirative of Katsuki’s support through distinct manners that reflected the intensity of his love. His fingers ruffled the messy curls, holding back his tears as the shorter man regained his breath.
“I promise….I just- Okay, it might sound crazy but I have something to say,” he signed with a soft tone on his face, convincing enough to erase the last ounce of doubt in the crimson eyes. The freckled man noticed when the taller figure guided him to the couch to continue this talk.
“Surprise me,” Katsuki added with a light kiss behind his ears, making the freckled man blush harder at the unexpected gesture.
He wanted to have the perfect timing for this announcement, but Izuku refused to keep the secret from the man who made this dream possible. His lips naturally rested against his forehead, trying to erase this sadness that occupied Katsuki’s tormented heart.
“Kacchan,” The letters spelled themselves in this sign language that connected their words, becoming as emotional as the sound that used to escape from Izuku’s lips before the tragedy. If the blond was looking for an obvious answer, the shorter man simply signed the news that’ll change their lives…for the better. “I’m pregnant.
Katsuki’s eyes widened at the sudden urge to ask for a confirmation, to know if it wasn’t a mistake with the pregnancy test, but the radiant expression on Izuku’s face was enough to read between the lines. His husband would never joke about such a thing, especially when the current predicament offered some…interesting settings to raise a pup
He was unable to properly communicate with a child, stuck in this golden jail he imposed on himself for years. Katsuki Bakugo didn’t know how to properly react to this news. The blond was amazed at the fact he’s gonna be a dad, a title he never thought he would get so early in this journey, but he knew this situation might hurt Izuku at the same time. The freckled man ended up bearing life, with the cruel reality that this pup will never hear his father’s voice or communicate with him for a long time. This reality acted like a slap in the face, feeling the scarred fingers against his cheeks, until his thumbs lifted his head to have his entire attention.
Izuku wasn’t scared. On the contrary, he seemed appeased by the situation. No longer pain, just delight reflected through the adorable expression on his face. The delicate thumbs ruffling his cheeks caught him by surprise, with Izuku signing “Are you alright ?” from afar. The green-haired man understood how this abrupt news created a certain shock that forced the taller man to handle the heavy consequences of their news habits but he didn’t seem mad about it. The crimson eyes reflected a genuine happiness, mixed with some confusion. Izuku immediately sensed how this child would be loved by his parents, no matter if this little bean was in the womb or a part of their lives in the next months.
“It’s just... I didn’t know how to react, it’s the best thing that ever happened to me but I’m scared at the same time. Tell me Izuku, do you really think we’ll be able to face this?” The taller man asked with a curious expression on his face, betraying the ounce of worry that previously crossed his crimson irises.
After all, the blond had every right to be vulnerable after what happened, but their strength transformed this tough obstacle into one of their biggest fights. The stakes were different, with this child’s life on the line and the thousands of new beginnings awaiting them at the end of the day, but it was the most exciting part: to learn through their mistakes and be rewarded by the unconditional love offered by a child that naturally considerate you as their biggest hero.
“I’m more than convinced that we’re able to offer the best of care despite our uncommon situation. It’s not because you’ll have fewer opportunities to interact with our child that your love for this little guy or princess isn’t real. We’ll find a way…Always.”
Izuku tried his best to erase the previous concerns, rubbing his scarred fingers into his skin and brushing them with enough care to transcribe his genuine pride. The freckled man had already seen how his husband and his natural chemistry with children during safety missions, especially when they thanked him with sign language and their big smiles after receiving Dynamight’s praise. If the blond was affectionate with strangers who’ll remember their interaction, Izuku couldn’t wait to see the amazing memories his husband will create with their pup in this lifetime.
“So… we’re gonna have a family?”
Katsuki's doubts disappeared when he naturally learned into the touch offered by the delicate thumbs against his skin, moving behind his ears to rest his forehead against Izuku’s. None dare to break this unforgettable moment, where their previous tears were erased by the joy rising inside their chest.
“Congratulations, you’re gonna be the best dad, love,” Izuku signed, stealing a quick kiss against his cheeks.
His fingers wiped the tears away from his gorgeous face, until the taller man replied with a stupid grin, the same one the omega wanted to follow until his dying days. It wasn’t surprising to see how the blond pressed his head against his husband's shoulders, enjoying the way those scarred fingers naturally found their way into his golden spikes. A slight “I love you” escaped from Izuku’s lips, knowing the blond couldn’t hear his words, but his feelings were too intense to be transcribed into signs.

Izuku might’ve underestimated how the pregnancy symptoms would change his routine. It’s not like he hated the changes inside his body, knowing he was literally conceiving life inside his vulnerable stomach, but he would’ve gladly avoided the morning nausea and the strange mix that gave him bad breath. The whole concept of bearing an innocent that’ll make his proof in this world as its own was scary, and he naturally became afraid of the dangers surrounding them, especially the ones highlighted on television. Villains who threatened Dynamight and his loved ones? He couldn’t handle the loss. A sudden murder based on revenge with innocents involved? The freckled could easily tear up at the idea of becoming another target of some villain's plans, knowing his husband’s popularity.
Izuku recalled the moment when he offered his support by holding his hands under the table, announcing the news to their loved ones. The first to know were their parents, who immediately sobbed and offered a bunch of hugs that led the two men to share an amused glance. Little did they know how their presence would be more imposing than they thought, with a few advice and things to absolutely avoid during the next months: Mitsuki, Masaru, and Inko wanted to make sure everything was safe, especially for their first grandchild!
The reactions of their friends were more rational, with, “congratulations,”followed by a stupid argument over who’ll be the best aunt or uncle…under the comprehensive expression on the couple’s face. There was no doubt, Izuku and Katsuki had been through a lot of obstacles, but their surroundings made this journey easier, especially with their support. As minimalist as it looked, it was all the two men needed to erase the previous pressure, knowing their loved ones would always have their backs.
However, this didn’t make the situation easier when he spent some of his morning on the toilet seat, releasing some disgusting noises in the empty room.
At this point, he almost considered himself lucky not to let his husband hear about this mess, knowing Katsuki would’ve probably felt disgusted by this scene. Scarred hands grabbed the closet towel to wipe his mouth, ready to stand up to prepare breakfast until the pup decided to cause trouble by forcing the same process the umpteenth time. Don’t get him wrong, the freckled man loved his pup and would do anything to protect this human residing inside his stomach, but this child needed to be more gentle with him and his body… the poor omega couldn’t even catch a break without having this bitter taste on his lips, the same ones kissing Katsuki’s!
The sound of an open door and footsteps caught his tired eyes and noticed the presence of crimson ones. For a moment, it seemed like the blond was trying to hide away, wondering what he should do to appease the situation, until he met the exhausted expression on his husband’s face. Katsuki walked beside him in slow movements to not scare the shaking omega, who definitely looked like he needed help. He rested on his knees to stay the same height as the vulnerable omega signing “Are you alright?”
Izuku simply smiled and replied with “I’ve known better days,” hoping it would appease the concerned expression on his husband’s face.
Katsuki knew the tricks and this familiar scene a bunch of times since the announcement; it scared him to be a simple spectator of this show without being able to help the man he loved…but he did his best to stay the shoulder to cry on when things went wrong. Katsuki’s fingers caressed Izuku’s back, making sure to offer some reassurance over this bittersweet situation, until he moved his thumbs into the messy curls. The freckled man made a soft laugh when he felt those delicate fingers on his sweaty forehead; he moved his head to the side and melted into the touch, looking at the crimson eyes with gentleness.
Everything seemed ethereal when his emerald eyes met the blond's, reading into him like an open book and falling in love a thousand times with the same shadow that marked his youth. His husband had never looked prettier than this, despite the setting of a stupid bathroom with the light off and worries inside his charming irises. The freckled man wanted to erase his concerns with a gentle kiss, but it would be pretty strange and disgusting, even if the two men were madly in love with each other.
“I bet I look like a mess,” he signed with a relieved expression on his face, after wiping his lips.
“You’ve never been so pretty to my eyes,” the blond signed back with a grin at the tip of his lip. Izuku simply replied with rolled eyes, making the taller man amused by the circumstances. Of all the places they could be in their house, this confession had to happen in the toilet, with Izuku puking his heart out due to their pup making his rules.
“Don’t mess with me, I bet you’re probably disgusted to see me in such a state It’s not what you expected,” Izuku might try to convince his husband about his biased opinion about his state during the pregnancy, but the stubborn blond won’t change his mind about this beautiful Izuku naturally reflected. The strong hands gently caressed his skin until a few centimeters separated them. Their eyes met, feeling the alpha's thumbs putting a lost curl behind his ears, under the slight blush crossing Izuku’s cheeks.
“I’ve seen you at your worst and I’m still here, it takes a lot to be disgusted by you… but you look like you need a shower,” he signed with a grin.
Katsuki wondered if his husband missed the sound of his voice and those gentle laughs that used to follow each of their narratives in the most breathtaking ways. The freckled man gasped, pushing the taller man’s shoulders, being offended by the comment. He could’ve lied and pretended to say he looked pretty in every situation! It was the bare minimum, especially when the omega was the one doing all the work, and he had to tolerate the stupid comments from his mate… the same comments that were often followed by a kiss on the lips or the forehead.
“Shut up,” Izuku finally signed with rolled eyes, making a groan when he started to stand on his fragile legs. He needed to get used to this, but he accepted Katsuki’s help when the calloused hands met the air, waiting for an answer until the delicate fingers met the palm of his heated skin. Their fingers intertwined together as the figure could be seen leaving the room, knowing they’ll have another funny story to share after their child’s birth.
—---
Katsuki Bakugo was the most supportive mate someone could ever have, according to Izuku’s biased opinions.
It was easier for him to praise the alpha’s efforts since he was the only one who saw this tender side of his personality, and he hoped it would stay the same for the rest of their lives. Maybe his nerves and scent had been more irregulars due to stupid people trying to make a move on his husband: They all tried to use this stupid pretext of congratulating his last victories to touch his biceps, a place reserved for the omega, and not those filthy hands who probably touched more durts than gems like Katsuki’s muscles.
He knew he would always have the upper hand on those failed attempts made by strangers, when the crimson eyes stayed focused on him and the slight belly that started to show up. Izuku liked to play with this detail to annoy the vultures who wanted to steal his man, but the moment he walked closer to his husband and pressed their interlaced fingers together against his stomach, he knew the victory was his
Don’t get him wrong, the freckled man wasn’t the kind to be jealous, trusting his partner more than his own life, but his pregnancy hormones transformed him into a monster of attention, almost like he had something to prove to the people who sneaked too close to their private life. No one has to know about Dynamight and his charming effects of his lips against his skin, even after a failed cooking recipe with flavor on his cheeks and his ruined clothes.
It was their personal bubble they agreed to share with this roommate who became an important part in their lives, despite being discreet at the moment. The last echography showed a slight evolution compared to the first one they’ve got, being a source of joy until they started to follow their pup’s progression like the biggest supporters of a sports game. The doctor announced that it was too early to feel any bump or interaction, but dantrolene talks were recommended to put their pup at ease and facilitate his presence when the time comes.
Izuku and Katsuki didn’t mention this topic yet, knowing it was too sensitive for both of them.
They might’ve accepted Katsuki’s sudden hearing loss and moved on since this fateful morning, but it was different when it concerned their child’s life and the ability to hear his father’s voice or not. The pregnant omega was easily emotive about that, and the blond knew he wouldn’t find the right words to describe his fears…which became an important detail to keep in mind for the next months. It didn’t stop them from returning to their old dynamic and ignoring the world’s opinion about their situation, being happier than ever.
After all, Izuku already made the craziest request at two in the morning, and Katsuki immediately bought the ice cream he wanted, even if they were impossible to find. As the gentleman he was, the blond agreed to wash his omega’s back in the shower when the omega was too lazy, being grateful to have a white knight by his side. Izuku chose not to use his “pregnancy power” too often, knowing how devoted his husband could be, even when the freckled man didn’t make any request: A slight movement on the couch? Katsuki was already there to grab the most comfortable pillow and put it behind his omega’s neck. A movie too emotional for Izuku? He put the movie on “pause” and immediately reassured him, under the amused expression on his lover’s face.
Sometimes the green-haired man considered those privileges as selfish wishes, until he met the charming crimson eyes and immediately fell in love with his childhood friend again. The least he could do was to return the gesture and make his husband happy, using all the strategy to catch a stupid grin, or a delicate kiss against his curls. Izuku might be pregnant, but it didn’t stop him from showing up to the public celebration with his sunglasses and nerdy sweatshirt that covered his belly. He refused to miss any events related to his mate and important events in his life, professional or personal: each victory was celebrated with a date in his favorite restaurant despite Izuku’s limits with food, or cuddle sessions on the couch during their movie marathon.
However, Izuku lost his mind when he heard a whisper in the hallway that made him angrier than ever. He held his fist tighter, listening to the conversation made by this new teacher, who reached the building a few days ago, and heard about the omega’s pregnancy. It wasn’t difficult to connect the dots about the father’s identity, based on the revelation of their relationship they made in the media years ago, but this time this guy went too far.
“- Midoriya’s pregnancy is a miracle after what happened for sure, but it’s pretty complicated to deal with this. I don’t know how I would handle it if my legacy will never hear my partner’s voice…this poor child might think they’re parentless, I feel sorry for them, not even born and already the worst of life,” Haruto pointed out with a mocking tone.
The freckled man never liked his presence with this superiority complex he covered behind each of his gestures and specific words in conversation. Izuku never had a proper talk with him, and didn’t want to unless fate forced him to take a drastic decision-
”There’s nothing wrong with this situation, I don’t see why any couple should fit into a certain category to raise a child or not. As long as they respect their pup’s life and don’t do crazy stuff like beating or hurting them, they have the right to get their happy ending,” the other colleague finally answered with a sigh, looking bothered by the fact that the emerald eyes caught their conversation. He showed his support multiple times to Midoriya, but he knew Izuku’s reaction would be intensified by hormonal changes.
“Come on, it’ll only be a question of time before realizing how this child will be ashamed by the situation,” Haruto added with rolled eyes, unaware of the footsteps behind him with this menacing aura. “Their relationship will definitely fall apart at some point, their distinct worlds aren’t meant to stay together and it will be a blessing to stay away from Dynamight. Imagine how desperate he must be to know he’ll never hear his child’s voice and voice, that’s ridiculous-”
“Excuse me,” Izuku’s voice suddenly turned serious, interrupting the conversation.
His eyes met his colleague’s, who faced a simple nod, until the freckled man turned to Haruto, crossing his arms against his chest with a stupid expression on his face. He opened his lips, ready to say more bullshit until he received a sudden punch on his face and the loud sound resonated in the entire building, catching everyone’s attention from afar. The hit was too strong, pushing Haruto away under the shocked expression of his colleague, who couldn’t stop the previous attack. He should’ve warned Haruto about his shitty behavior, but it was a good lesson, especially when Izuku’s glance was able to kill anyone on the spot.
“What the fuck was that-”
“Sorry, I didn’t mean to hurt your jaw, I was reaching your eyes, but you looked like a good punching bag to me,” Izuku expressed with a laugh, pushing the other’s nerves to his limits. The taller figure shared a cold glare at the omega standing in front of him, wearing this expression that offered nothing but mockery. Hiroshi groaned and wiped the blood away, noticing how this stupid omega probably broke something on his face.
“What’s wrong with you,” he shouted with anger, ready to grab the omega's shirt and push him against the wall. His attempts were immediately stopped when the scarred hands, fragile in appearance, grabbed his wrist and put the taller man against the cold floor. This time, Izuku noticed how he made too much noise and would probably be yelled at for his behavior, but he didn’t care.
“I’m glad you asked,” Izuku replied with a smile, explaining to his colleague how it would be fine, at least for him. The shorter man nodded and ran into the multiple shadows in the background, explaining what happened, while the omega solved this problem on its own. “You see, it’s a well-known fact that pregnant omegas are very sensitive and often let their emotions take the lead. Unfortunately for you, it has to be anger. Anger because I’ve heard some things that should’ve never left your filthy mouth.”
“Why are you pretending to be surprised when you know this is your reality? Your life must be very boring to stay with a useless partner like Dynamight. You want to create a future with him, but this poor child already hates you for choosing such a weak parental figure like him,” Hiroshi added, noticing how Izuku’s face twitched into a darker expression. “What are you gonna do? Ask your deaf puppet to defend you, what a shame he won’t hear you-”
Another punch reached his nose, making him groan at the sudden pain. Izuku simply erased the nasty blood on his skin with a rolled eye and avoided another hit. However, the freckled man found himself stuck when he accidentally received a hit from the taller man, making him sigh. He wasn’t mad at himself for not seeing it coming, but he was afraid of what excuse he might use tonight when he returned home with his worried husband.
“Listen to me,” the green haired man said with a death glare, making sure to let this asshole know about the damage he caused. “You can talk shit about me and my personal choice, but I don’t tolerate any hate toward my loved ones, including my husband and family. You talk about the name of my unborn child and this is intolerable, you don’t know anything about what happened outside this building and you pretend to own the truth? Let me laugh, this is absolutely ridiculous. The next time you have the audacity of talking behind Kacchan’s back, I’ll make sure to let you regret being born, get it ?”
“You’re crazy,” Hiroshi mumbled with a shaking tone, realizing how he might’ve underestimated the omega. “No wonder why Dynamight and you found each other, you’re both fucked up in the head.”
“Thanks for the compliment, but it would be a better day if you could return to your class instead of acting like a teenager who shifted in his pants, It would be stupid to be fired, right ?” Izuku asked with a smile, covering his intentions of making this idiot pay for his words. If there hadn’t been a crowd around them, he would’ve knocked him down, but he couldn’t be fired, he had a family to protect!
After the accident, the entire building realized how they shouldn’t mess with Midoriya, at least, during his pregnancy. He was scarier than ever, even after he regained his soft smile and ignored the injury in his cheeks. He rested his hands on his stomach as he walked back to his house, being impatient to see his lover and hold him in the warmest hugs after this terrible day at work. The main door of the silent house opened, forcing the blond to turn around, revealing his familiar shadow in the kitchen. Great, tonight he was the one cooking and Izuku hoped their child would like the amazing meal made by his dad! The green-haired man took his coat off and signed a “I’m back”, but the taller man moved closer and stopped when he noticed the event injury on the omega’s cheeks. Much to his knowledge, his childhood friend didn’t have this mark when he left this morning, and a slight panic started to fill his chest.
“Oi, you’re hurt, what happened?” The taller man signed, moving closer to the shorter figure.
Izuku knew his husband was probably making thousands of scenarios inside his mind, especially in his vulnerable state, but he didn’t have to know what happened earlier. Maybe the freckled man could use some excuse to cover his act until the worried alpha believes him. It would be unfair to put more stress on the number two hero’s shoulders, who suffered enough to end up in another rabbit hole.
“Nothing, just an asshole who mind people’s business, i’m fine,” the freckled man explained with a sigh, catching the surprise in the blond’s face.
It was rare to see someone like Izuku use curse or sweats in sign language, but no matter what happened…this must’ve been really bad. The shorter omega tried to ignore the terrible things he heard: how could someone be so heartless to say such a thing about their unborn child and talk behind Dynamight’s back? His scarred hands held his fists and caught the reassuring scent near his reach. Izuku welcomed the calloused fingers cupping this porcelain skin he adored since their golden youth. He naturally learned into the touch, bringing a smile back to his lover’s face while the hesitant thumbs ruffled the injury in his face, afraid to hurt him. Izuku will always appreciate the gentleness of Katsuki’s touch during their private moments, something that belongs to them and soon, their future pup.
“This won’t work with me, let’s go to the bathroom and clean this shit,” he signed with an unimpressed glance. Katsuki knew he should’ve asked for more details about how the nerd could do such a thing on his pretty face, but he could wait a little longer. For the moment, healing Izuku’s injury and taking care of his family were the main priorities!
“Sometimes I don't deserve you,” Izuku signed with a relieved glance.
It was true, sometimes he felt like he caused more trouble than benefits to their relationship, but his doubts were quickly erased when Katsuki kissed his forehead and held his smaller figure closer. If the blond wanted to leave, he would’ve already done it a long time ago…but the freckled man decided to keep the secret, knowing how it might unconsciously hurt his husband, who already suffered too much from the cruel gossip
The taller man moved to the bathroom to grab the first aid kit, leaving the shorter omega alone with his thoughts. A gentle smile appeared on Izuku’s lips when he pressed his hands against his belly, realizing how far he was ready to go for his family.
“Daddy doesn’t need to know what happened today, it can be our little secret, sweetie,” he whispered with a loving tone, being excited about the day when the couple will catch the first movements. The low footsteps echoed through the delicate ears of the omega, who turned his head and welcomed the reassuring figure with his comments about how stupid he was, making Izuku laugh.
There’s no doubt, the greenette couldn’t wait to discover more about this bright future awaiting him and his devoted husband.
———
5 months pregnant,
The innocent belly that caused some teasing between the married couple became evident to the most curious eyes. The slight bulge was now visible every time the omega was hanging out in town, holding his husband’s hands with their private conversations, catching the natural curiosity of the crowd.
Izuku couldn’t deny how the changes gave him hell most of the time, with strange food habits that became tolerable, to the midnight conversation he shared with a sleepy Katsuki, who could barely sign back: As much as the alpha wanted to get some rest, he made sure to stay up past his sleep schedule, listening to Izuku’s recent discoveries concerning the future name of their child. The advice from their parents became important as Izuku collected them like Pokemon, especially when he started to realize how serious it was when the small bean on the previous echography became a his tiny body, wondering how this pup could fit into his belly!
The doctor often jokes about how the couple’s naivety will make them the best parents, especially with the freckled man looking at his husband with wide eyes, and Katsuki signing a few comments about how crazy it was! The older man who took care of their case since the beginning of the pregnancy, made sure to answer each of their questions, with Dynamight asking some through sign language, and Izuku translated it with his voice.
In all honesty, the doctor was afraid of facing ups and downs between the couple like the previous cases he’d seen, but he was surprised to see how Izuku and Katsuki seemed closer than ever. It was evident how a simple glance between the couple was able to transcribe their affections, or the way Katsuki’s hands often held the scarred ones during their echography appointment. The black and white pictures they received at the end of their meeting were seen as their biggest pride, admiring this chance to create another narrative, something stronger than anything they’ve created until now.
Katsuki couldn’t help but admire how gorgeous his mate was; no matter the morning nausea or bags under his eyes, the crimson irises stayed focused on the omega’s gentleness. There was something radiant about the way his lips naturally smiled when he made one-sided talk with their child, knowing they could feel movements soon, according to their doctor’s statement. Sometimes, the blond wondered what the nerd was whispering with the joy on his face, and welcoming touch….
Izuku welcomed the unknown with open arms, even if this meant facing tragedies they’d never seen coming, or a miracle that saved their lives. He heard about his mom’s and Mitsuki’s advice about the special care of carrying a pup, especially when the bond between them was something unique related to the omega from his child. The green-haired man was impatient to hold their pup for the first time, feel this fragile skin against his,…but he had his imagination and movies to portray this meeting that’ll be his reality in 4 months.
However, the freckled man didn’t expect this surprise, he felt the very first bump during his day off at their cozy house.
The doctor warned him about this eventually, especially during a first pregnancy and his twenty weeks, but this little bean finally decided to show up. It was a strange sensation, feeling this instant bump until it disappeared, leaving the omega with nothing but a few seconds to realize what happened. His thumbs slowly crossed the delicate skin of his exposed stomach, hoping his pup would feel the warmth through those layers of skin separating them. A smile naturally drew itself on his lips as his hands rested against his stomach, offering a soft caress to not bother the innocent life residing in their comfortable cocoon. As selfish as it sounds, Izuku wanted to feel it again, but he knew it was a question of time until it became a habit….
“Oh my- looks like you’re finally showing up, took you long enough, sweetie,” his voice echoed in the empty room, with the sunlight highlighting the distinct shade of green in his messy curls. The freckled man felt relieved to know communication was now possible between them, even if it was only the beginning! “This one was pretty shy, I wonder if your dad can feel it. The next time, make sure to kick harder, you need to make good use of our genes.”
When the omega shared the amazing news with his husband, Katsuki’s eyes were wide open, immediately rushing to feel the belly against his calloused hands. Unfortunately, they tried to make this work as much as they could, but Izuku was the only one able to feel the kick, making Katsuki sadder. He wanted to be a part of it, but felt excluded, even by his own child! Luckily, his apprehensions were erased by the gentle fingers against his cheeks, singing how he could hear them in the next weeks….which seems unbelievably long for Katsuki’s impatient soul!
It only took 4 weeks, during Izuku's second trimester, to understand what his husband meant.
A month ago, the pregnant omega shared the first bump, and now it was Katsuki’s turn to face this once-in-a-lifetime experience. It happened by happenstance when the taller man returned from work and moved behind the shorter figure in the kitchen, preparing dinner. The calloused hands wrapped themselves around the belly, putting his head on the omega’s shoulders with a slight kiss against his exposed skin. He couldn’t hear it, but he sensed how Izuku was probably chuckling at the gesture, before stopping his previous activity and rubbing his fingers into the calloused ones.
This habit became his favorite part of the day, when the couple had their own bubble, staying in their peaceful universe for a while with nothing but a smile on their faces and genuine love to share. That evening, the green-haired man held the strong hands closer, bringing them to his lips to offer a kiss on his knuckles. The freckled man was about to steal a kiss from his husband’s lips, as usual, until a sudden bump interrupted his thoughts. If the omega was used to this sensation, he felt how the calloused fingers froze against his heated skin, realizing how something was wrong. Izuku turned his back against the counter to catch the stunned crimson eyes, holding back his tears.
“Did you….Did you feel that ?” Izuku signed with a hesitant expression on his face, hoping it wasn’t another misunderstanding. However, his heart missed a beat when he caught Katsuki’s face brightening after the previous question.
“I did, and it was….” The taller man, now a shaking mess. The caring scent of his mate was the only thing that brought him back to reality, catching the loving emerald irises in his. He didn’t need to answer to feel this natural chemistry between their souls, realizing why the nerd was so amazed over the last month.
“Yeah, I know, but you’ll get used to it, our little bean is a strong one,” the omega signed back with a soft laugh, losing his fingers behind his husband’s neck and stealing a quick kiss against his lips.
Katsuki ignored the blush rising on his cheeks, making sure to not miss any movement from now on He might not be able to communicate with their pup, but this doesn’t mean it stopped him from falling harder for his childhood friend and being impressed by a brat that wasn’t even there, who’s already brightening their worlds.
——-
Izuku was now 8 months pregnant, and started to lose his mind at the fact that their pup would be a part of their lives very soon.
The medical appointments and echography showed that their child was in good form, with his health perfect for an fetus of this stage, reassuring the couple. The omega missed those nights when he was able to move without feeling this extra weight and didn’t have issues standing up without his husband’s hands to lift his heavy figure from the bed. He knew it would get worse after the little bean’s birth, especially with the idea of being new parents and not making their night, but the two men were enthusiastic to see their child!!
Many things had changed since the last time they’ve felt their little being establish a first contact with them. This gesture became a casual one, making the couple smile with Izuku being a translator during Katsuki’s interactions with their child. He didn’t mind taking this role if this meant making his husband proud, especially after the endless love his lover had shown since the beginning of this journey.
The new room for the pup was ready, especially after the doctor announced the gender and saw the sincere joy on the men’s faces at the idea that they were having a daughter. Katsuki immediately played the protective figure, explaining how no one would break her heart or make her cry, with Izuku’s chuckles in the background. The couple knew they were ready to love this child no matter if it was a girl or a boy, but it was really touching to see the number two hero being a girl’s dad, when the birth was planned for the next month.
Izuku couldn’t be happier, having amusing conversations with his mate about what they should do with the decorations, and the meaningful decision of the plushie! If Izuku insisted on getting her a Dynamight one to feel her dad by her side for the rest of her life, Katsuki was obstinate enough to prepare a unique Deku plushie to offer once the time had come. After all, the omega was the one making this possible, he deserved his own plushie!
Another one of those big changes was the fateful conversation they’ve avoided for months.
No one really knew who introduced it, but it started with a simple glance, explaining if they were in the mood for a talk. The two childhood friends knew that it was the right time to mention this topic, especially when everything in their surroundings started to feel too abrupt; the new room, the plushies, and the baby bump. Ignoring this talk will only make their assumptions worse, but the two men have already made their proofs. After all, Izuku and Katsuki survived the progressive hearing loss and adapted to this new lifestyle until they got rid of every worry crossing their minds. The couple was aware that their situation might always be a source of concern for curious eyes, but they succeeded in finding strength in each other’s support, being their biggest pride.
That day, the freckled man decided to sit on the couch, beside his husband. It wasn’t surprising to have a sudden nostalgia filling his chest at those tender memories of Katsuki's voice during their movie marathon, leaving a bittersweet taste on Izuku’s lips at the realization that he had slowly started to forget about this sound that used to be his everything.
Scarred hands ruffled the black shirt with the white skull, the one he stole from his mate due to the reassuring scent and symbolism of their relationship. If the taller man seemed stressed about the outcome of this conversation, Izuku decided to reassure him by putting his fingers into the calloused ones, looking at him with a comforting smile on his face. Once their pup will be there, there’ll be no time to talk about that and their anxiety could impact their daughter’s state, something they needed to avoid at all costs.
The omega listened to Katsuki’s worries and realized how this pressure took up too much space inside their confused hearts, leading to nothing but a breakdown under the heartbreaking glance of their partner. Katsuki was suffering, just like Izuku, who played the reassuring role when he understood his husband's pain… more than anyone.
“I’m scared, truly afraid of what might happen once our daughter will be a part of this world, but giving up isn’t an option, not when something bigger awaits us at the end of this journey,” the freckled man signed, losing his fingers behind the blond’s ears. Many people would’ve rejected Izuku for sharing crocodile tears about such a thing when there were more important disasters happening outside his selfish bubble, but Katsuki stayed and never left him behind despite his darkest mistakes
“We don’t know how to raise another human, an innocent counting on us to survive in life, but we need to fight a little longer. Your pain became mine the moment our eyes met at the altar, and I knew I would rather die than live in a world with the most important person in my life. My vows are still a reminder of what we’ve accomplished, and this future she’ll need….shit, I know I should’ve learned more on those videos-”
“You’re doing great, a little messy but I get it,” the blond immediately reassured him, bringing the omega closer to him. Izuku’s expression softened as he rested his face against his husband’s chest, hearing his heartbeat beside the mating mark on his exposed neck. As stupid as it sounds, the stubborn hero liked this genuine affection in their attempt to communicate in a language that became their own. The weight of Izuku’s body disappeared when the omega stepped back, welcoming the calloused fingers, that wiped his tears away.
Many people would’ve rejected Izuku for sharing crocodile tears about such a thing when there were more important disasters happening outside his selfish bubble, but Katsuki stayed, and never left him behind…even when he committed mistakes. There were days when the taller man wished he were strong enough to use his voice and interact with his environment, but he would be forever grateful to his childhood friend for his understanding of the situation.
“Kacchan,” the freckled man added until he got the complete attention of his mate. “You don’t understand. There’s not a day passing by where I’m not terrified at the idea of leaving our daughter alone in this world. The idea of leaving her behind scares me more than anything, but I also found hope in the fact that she won’t be alone and will never be. This isn’t about me, but the narratives I choose to share with her once the time has come, and how she’ll remember you-”
“But-”
“I’ve heard many people talking about stupid things concerning our choices to raise a family despite our uncommon circumstances, but this doesn’t change anything. I wouldn’t wish for a better partner and father for my child than someone I’ve known for years and who loved me at my worst. I know this hurt like hell to know the future she might face, but this love will be unconditional on both sides: hers with natural trust, and us with this ethereal bond we forged for this happy ending with nothing else than our family,” Izuku signed back, trying to remember the things he saw on videos during his training years ago. He might be an expert at casual conversations, but he still struggled when it comes to deep talk… even if the alpha appreciated his efforts.
“I’m sorry…I’ve never meant to impose these sudden changes. How can we be sure I won’t bring her life down by simply existing?” He asked with a sadder expression on his face. The most affecting part was to see how someone, as strong as Katsuki Bakugo, couldn't forgive himself for something he couldn’t control. The freckled man reassured him a thousand times, and yet, his shattered heart knew how it was never enough to erase those natural tears that ruined the alpha’s skin.
“Don’t you dare say such a thing !” Izuku signed with an angry expression on his face. “The outside world will never know you like I do and it’s our biggest strength. I don’t like seeing you holding too much pain on your vulnerable shoulders, but it’ll be fine: I’m the one bearing our little bean, creating a safe place until she decides to show up and transform our lives into the most unforgettable tales. She loves you, more than anything and I know she’ll be impatient to see her grumpy dad who acted in his eighties despite being younger than that.”
“How can you be so sure? What if we make mistakes and she’ll be mad at me for something we can’t control? We both know how teenagers can be,” Katsuki signed with a hesitant glance, until the delicate fingers crossed his spiky hair.
The thumb meeting this intimate part of his body, only known by his significant other, brought him sudden relief…almost like his mate put some trick on his sensitive soul. The emerald eyes didn’t need to use words to share his pride every time their glances met, falling in love with this unreachable figure that became the pillar of his universe. Katsuki’s worries were justified, and Izuku understood the meaning behind those chosen words, but it was a future they haven’t explored yet: It scared him to imagine their daughter being the target of mean comments due to her dad’s inability to properly communicate with his family, but she’ll be stronger and take his defense…at least that’s what the freckled man hoped.
“Because I know giving up isn’t in your vocabulary. We’ll obviously make mistakes, but we can learn from them and that’s how life works, we faced ups and downs and learn our lessons, as uncomfortable as these events might be,” the omega signed with an understanding glance, a detail that reassured the taller man, who learned into the touch. “I need you to trust me for the rest of this adventure. We’re doing great so far and it’s only the beginning. I’ll let our daughter know about you, share every story concerning her inspiring dad, and how he’s not a simple hero to the world, but the most inspiring one to my eyes.”
“I’ll always trust you, idiot,” he signed back without an ounce of hesitation.
Izuku didn’t think twice before holding the taller figure into a comfortable embrace, feeling the strong fingers relaxing at the touch of this fragile skin against the tissue of his favorite shirt. Katsuki naturally fell into the delightful embrace, welcoming the slight smile that crossed the tip of his lips, noticing the obvious belly separating them by a few centimeters. Those hugs were as amazing as the ones the couple shared in their bedtime moments after a terrible nightmare, acting like kids finding comfort in each other’s warmth.
—---
The same night, the two men stayed in their bed until tiredness guided their sleepy eyes, the vulnerable alpha as its first target.
Izuku wished to the second one on the list, but his plans were corrupted with their daughter being strangely active at this late hour, the freckled man came to the conclusion that their little bean would be a night hollow and give them heavy bags under their eyes soon. At this point, he hoped to see their daughter standing in their arms to feel this huge accomplishment after so much suffering, but a selfish part of him liked the fact that she was safe until the final term. The scarred fingers moved to the golden spiky hair, caressing it with enough care not to wake the sleeping figure up, especially when he seemed so appeased under this angle. The midnight sky already took the lead over the previous exchange that opened their eyes about how Izuku and Katsuki couldn’t survive without each other!
The freckled man will always be the target of those charming crimson eyes and gorgeous smirk on his face, hoping their daughter would inherit his natural beauty. There wasn’t a day passing by where he wasn’t admiring the chemistry that led their paths together on this curious encounter, the same one that transformed their naive exchange into timeless promises. If the pregnant omega didn’t have all this weight, he would've rested his head against his husband’s shoulders and held him as close as possible, but a certain someone made this simple task impossible….
The freckled man took advantage of the sleeping figure to drop a light kiss against his cheeks, noticing how the blond’s scent relaxed at the previous gesture. Izuku smiled, losing his fingers in the golden spiky hair before standing on the evident distance between them on the bed. It was getting hotter due to the arrival of the new season, but he simply sighed at the uncomfortable sweat on his skin, trying to find a proper position… until he gave up. Alright, their little bean won this victory but the omega didn’t give up!
The shorter man wanted to change his mind, slowly leaving the bed to close the door with low noises, trying not to wake the other up. After all, his husband already made too many sacrifices and Izuku needed to do his best to respect the precious sleep of his alpha! However, it wasn’t a bother to the omega, who enjoyed this calm atmosphere. It felt strange to stay up at night when the entire city was asleep, but he knew the neighborhood might soon despise him for the new inhabitant in this house. The freckled man smiled when he pressed his fingers against the pregnant belly, feeling a small movement against the palm of his hand.
“Looks like you can’t find sleep either, I hope you found your comfort for the next weeks. Would you mind keeping me company for a while, sweetie ?” His voice resonated in the room, highlighting the tenderness with the choice of his words. “You know, your dad and I are very excited to see you, we've prepared this for so long! We both had a conversation earlier about your future, and we agreed about making you the happiest girl on earth. I have no doubts Kacchan will protect you more than his own life.”
Thinking about Katsuki’s reaction during the medical appointments melted his heart, especially when he discovered the first echography with amazed crimson eyes. Izuku might’ve confessed a bunch of times how he was happier than ever, but he truly meant those words when he realized how lucky he was to have a supportive partner like the great Dynamight.
“You have so much to learn, and we’ll be there for you in every single step, even the hardest. You can’t hear your dad, and never will, but it doesn’t mean he’s not there. He’s been supportive the entire time, even before your existence in the bomb. He loves you more than anything. I know the world will say cruel things about our family, but you’re our biggest pride…our miracle.. I can’t wait to tell you bedtime stories about your dad’s adventures and see your amazed eyes, I hope you’ll see how inspiring he is and he’ll become your favorite hero, just like he became mine.”
He knew those promises were meant to keep his hope alive a little longer, especially with the arrival of this new child. A part of him never forgave himself for letting the man he loved suffer in silence to the point of losing his voice, the same one that shared the most breathtaking vows on their wedding day. Izuku already projected the numerous questions made by their little girl, breaking his heart but bringing huge happiness, knowing she was the result of this perfect love between their distinct universes.
It was only the beginning, but he prayed for this moment when the world would accept their uncommon relationship.
—---
One month later
The town enjoyed the arrival of summer, with cars parked outside the building, shadows going to the beach and people sharing loud conversations about their vacation. The city of Mustafu was active for the first days of the season, leaving this calm neighborhood with the delicate leaves escaping the trees to create their own journey. The bathroom door suddenly opened with a loud slam against the wall, revealing the taller man with wide-open crimson eyes and a shocked expression on his face. Katsuki didn’t think twice when he saw his husband’s face twisted into some groan of pain
Izuku wasn’t naive and noticed how his husband caught the strange behavior, even when he made sure to hold the shorter man in a better position, as temporary as it seemed. The calloused hands held the fragile shoulders as close as possible, releasing a soft scent to appease the suffering in those emerald eyes and pressed his hands on the pregnant belly. Their daughter was more than active and the blond was surprised to see how impatient she was.
The freckled man was glad his childhood friend couldn’t hear his heavy breath and groan of pain resonating in the room, realizing how each movement gave him the sensation of walking on a road full of Legos. The omega already heard his mother and Mitsuki talk about this part of the process, but he underestimated how painful it would be! Each break he got helped him to regain his breath, under the concerned crimson eye. Katsuki tried to reassure the shaking man as much as he could, afraid of being a spectator or this terrible show until the omega looked at him straight in the eyes and signed the words he’ll never forget.
“It’s happening.”
Izuku had a few plans prepared for the day, but giving birth was not in any of them! Their daughter chose the best moment to show up and be the center of attention, transforming the omega’s belly into a punching ball, with her tiny feet. He wanted to put the blame on the Bakugos’ genes, but it was also a pride to know their pup was already a warrior…but, she needed to stop using her dam’s body as a way to let off steam. She seemed to share a different opinion when she let herself be known, unaware of how her poor dam was trying to reassure his husband on the other side.
“Let me grab the bag on the bed, I need you to take a deep breath and keep your calm,” he signed with a comprehensive glance. The safest place was the hospital, knowing the work already started for the vulnerable omega, who couldn’t give birth at home with his husband, who doesn’t know anything about this serious procedure! The freckled man nodded and followed his mate’s advice, before cactchîg the repetitive motion.
“You know how much your dad and I love you but do you know breathing is an option? You’re not making things easier,” the green-haired man whispered with an exhausted tone. His eyes glanced at the taller figure from afar, preparing the bags with a stressful breath, making the omega smile. “You probably heard a lot about Kacchan and you decided to see for yourself if he’s real? I agreed with this plan, but can you-ugh- alright I get it, you want to leave now.”
The taller figure finally reached the living room with a bag half closed and a few clothes exposed to the most curious eyes. The sweat on his forehead reflected how stressed he was, making the freckled man laugh. Izuku made a sign to move closer and Katsuki’s scent immediately turned softer when he felt those soft thumbs against his skin, feeling the gentle emerald eyes looking at him with awe.
“Take a breath, we’ll be fine, love,” Izuku signed, kissing his husband’s forehead.
He chuckled when the stubborn hero, usually harsh in public, was blushing like a teenager after this domestic dynamic. Katsuki’s previous panic slowed down, learning into the omega’s shoulders until the scarred hands caressed his back. Don’t get him wrong, the freckled man was terrified to see how they had already made the most important part of the process, but this final step depended on his ability and only him….which represented more pressure than the last months!
The blond probably noticed the slight change in his mate’s scent, stepping back until crimson eyes met the teary emerald ones. If Katsuki didn’t say anything, the tender expression on his face was enough to read how he was ready, despite his fear of the unknown and what might happen once they reached this building. The calloused hands held the scarred ones tighter, letting him know how it would be alright, catching the slight smile rising on the other’s lips.
Izuku’s grip tightened and their shadows disappeared from this house, knowing they’ll return home with a new roommate.

The road to the hospital was more chaotic than they expected, between the red lights that slowed their arrival, and Izuku’s noises in the car, the couple was definitely on their final straw.
Katsuki’s fingers ruffled the fragile ones of his mate from time to time, but Izuku tried to resonate with the stubborn pup, explaining how it was a bad idea to play with his nerves when he barely had any sleep, but their daughter didn’t listen. A simple glance at his clothes revealed how he barely had the time to change before leaving the house, having the uncomfortable sensation of being in pajamas, when it was his pregnant pants and black shirt with the white skull that barely covered half of his stomach. It would be considered an embarrassing situation if the omega wasn’t already occupied dealing with this demon, who pressed against his body like it was her favorite punching bag. The emerald eyes reflected a sudden joy when he recognized the building, with the focused alpha, who tried to get the first parking place available…who cares about the fine they’ll have to pay if this means leaving this place with their daughter?
There was no doubt, these two idiots were made for each other.
Izuku didn’t even have time to think for himself before seeing the bright sunlight in the parking lot.The fresh breeze crossed his messy curls as he held Katsuki’s fingers with all his strength to leave this confined space, making a small groan at the discomfort of using his legs, knowing they might fall anytime soon. Izuku loved his husband more than anyone, but the blond should make an effort to lighten his suffering and wear him on his arm in a bridal style like they did on their wedding night!
It wasn’t some extra weight and a kicking pup that would change the white knight behavior he showed during the entire pregnancy. Izuku signed, holding back his complaints, and waited until the taller man locked the car to offer a proper view: There was no doubt, the blond was panicking and had all the right to be, especially for a first trip to the hospital that wouldn’t end on medical treatment.
Dynamight’s popularity wasn’t in his favor, but the couple appreciated how each glance wasn’t too judgmental about their situation.
Calloused hands intertwined with the scarred ones, feeling their heated palms when they entered the building: The first thing that caught their attention was the blinding white in this place, with posters on the walls and toy areas for impatient children, with sleeping shadows on the uncomfortable chair. If everyone noticed the number two hero and his husband, they stayed silent and simply nodded in the background, while they both joined the reception.
“Welcome, what is the reason for your visit?” The woman asked with a curious tone
Emerald eyes meet the crimson ones, realizing how an uncomfortable atmosphere filled the previous conversation. The bags under Omega’s eyes were more than evident to the curious souls who took a glimpse at his fatigued face, due to his recent sleeping conditions, and the pregnant belly highlighted by the small shirt.
The golden-haired man had sweat falling down his forehead with shocked eyes after what his husband signed as a transcription of the previous conversation, wondering how it couldn’t be more obvious than that. Her brown eyes met the surprised expression on the couple’s faces, switching from Izuku’s to Katsuki’s, with the two men looking at her like she had asked something crazy. The omega’s eyes fell on the belly, before looking back at her, until her face turned stunned at the realization. Luckily, their daughter didn’t use this moment to be the center of attention, offering some calm before the storm, but at least the two men were safe with professionals!
“Oh—I’m so sorry I haven’t noticed it, my sincere apologies,” she pointed out with embarrassment. Izuku signed a low “it’s fine” to his husband to reassure him, he decided to be the one to use his words, knowing things weren’t easy on Katsuki’s side. This poor soul hadn’t said a single word since his hearing loss and forcing him to speak in such conditions with so much stress, was unthinkable. “May I ask since when you started to feel this way and if the contractions are repetitive?”
“I started to lose the notion of time when she used me as a punching bag,” he confirmed with a sigh, feeling the strong hands wrapped around his shoulders. Izuku knew Katsuki felt guilty about not doing more, but he was grateful for the care offered by his childhood friend. “From what I’ve observed, it’s happening every ten minutes, if not shorter due to her impatient behaviour. Can you bring us to Doctor Takashi? He’s the one who—oh, calm down there, we’re having an adult conversation—who’s been taking care of our case since the beginning.”
“I can,” the woman affirmed with a nod, typing the name on her computer to get the number and make a call. It was evident now how the omega was in a terrible state. If this child wasn’t leaving his belly now, she would definitely appear like the alien in the first movie of the saga!
The ringtone suddenly cut off to hear Takashi’s voice on the line, while the younger woman explained the situation, following the orders. After declining the call, she informed the couple ow the doctor was ready to check on them, translated by Izuku’s sign language to let his husband know about all the information exchanged in this important conversation. Realizing how the situation might be complex for the couple, the woman decided to bring her help to guide the trembling omega to the indicated room, explaining how she had a contact able to translate everything to Dynamight in real time.
Izuku simply replied with a smile, as it might be better than him making mistakes with the repeated contractions. He appreciated the fact that she wasn’t treating them like puppets, but real people, and made sure the blond was involved in the process. Katsuki simply followed them and noticed how the doctor rested there with files at the palm of his hands, and with relief to see his favorite patients.
Izuku didn’t fight back when he became the target of a series of exams until he relaxed on the hospital beds that used to give him back pain. He appreciated how his childhood friend held his hand the entire time, afraid to let him go, and stayed attentive to each translation made by the younger man beside the doctor. It was very important to let the blond be involved and experience the same emotions as his mate, knowing it was a tale they decided to create together. The blond nodded every time the doctor shared new information until they decided to let the couple rest, especially after the epidural.
The door closed itself, leaving the two childhood friends in the silent room. If the freckled man was surrounded by the background noises of the hospital being in action and the heartbeat on the monitor, the blond did his best to transcribe his apprehension with hidden gestures. Izuku couldn’t help but make a soft smile when he guided the alpha’s knuckles to his lips, dropping a light kiss to catch his attention.
The most important part was how they made it and everything was safe, even for, their little grimlin. Their previous rush happened so fast that none could properly realize what happened, leaving their comfortable house with clothes on the bed and the last remnants of breakfast on the wooden table, to reach this white room with a bunch of medical systems that tracked the slightest changes.
The shorter man rested his back into a better position with his husband’s help concerning the pillow, making sure to not mess the epidural that hurt like hell…but it was better than the natural birth that'll probably make him more drained than he already was. The shorter man relaxed into a better position with his husband’s help concerning the pillow after the epidural that hurt like hell and took advantage of their close distance to steal a quick kiss against the blond's cheeks.
“Looks like we made it, we can't celebrate for the moment but we’re getting closer…how do you feel ?” asked the freckled man with a quick sign. During a few minutes, the omega had the impression of sharing the same universe as his mate, realizing how this silence could quickly become unbearable….he understood why they easily adapted to sign language.
“You’re the one who accepted a huge needle in the back to make this process easier. Let me return the question, how do you feel, freckles?” He signed with an understanding glance, catching the amused expression on the omega’s lips. His shining emerald eyes couldn’t be prettier than they already were and yet, it was the best painting Katsuki had seen; especially when his fingers put a lost curl behind the omega’s ears.
“Strange, I can’t really tell after this needle coming straight from a horror movie,” he signed back knowing their poor hearts needed rest after the previous rush. “Tell me…do you ever wonder what she’ll look like ?”
“Everyday. I hope she’ll bear your beauty, and natural curiosity,” the alpha signed, dropping a light kiss against his mate’s forehead.. No one would’ve known that the obstinate head who cursed anyone on his path during his youth, would be the same person standing in the hospital room with his lover and their soon-to-be family. “It wouldn’t be a crime to let her have your genes, I know every time I’ll look into her eyes, I’ll see a carbon copy of my missing piece.”
“I hope she’ll have your charm too, I already know our daughter will be a heartbreaker… after all, she got your genes and your romantic history is well known to the world,” Izuku signed with an amused glance.
“Maybe, but we both know my heart only belongs to you, don’t pretend to play innocent to get some praise, freckles,” Katsuki replied with rolled eyes, until he pinched the omega’s nose. he simple view of Izuku laughing at the gesture and looking at him with care melted his heart- He couldn’t faint when his mate was the one doing the hardest part of the process! The blond decided to keep his gay panic for himself, under the tender emerald eyes, who already read behind the line with a light smile on his face.
“You caught me off guard, what am I supposed to do now?” It’s not like the omega didn’t have any ideas in mind, but he wouldn’t mind facing the consequences of his actions with strong hands wrapped around his waist and lips kissing his skin…was it too late to blame the pregnancy for his horny thoughts?
“Stop being stupid, it would be a good start,” the taller man added, acting shocked when Izuku punched his shoulder. The nerd might hide his game behind his stupid face, but he could beat his childhood friend in a fight. No wonder their pup was giving him a hard time if both of her parents were the strongest heroes! “and second….get some rest because you look like you haven’t slept for six hours.”
“It is the case !” Izuku admitted with exhausted eyes, crossing his arms against his chest. The taller man grinned at the sight, before stealing a quick kiss against the freckled cheeks, secretly praying to see their carbon copy on their daughter’s face.
Katsuki Bakugo was able to list the numerous reasons why he fell in love with his childhood friend, but the omega’s toughness was one of the most surprising points that stole his heart. After the recent event, he wouldn’t explain to the world how their princess got her dam’s beauty, making everyone fall in love with her too, with a single glance. It was crazy to think about how their projects, created as simple illusions, are gonna be a reality soon. The couple needed a few more time to accept this idea, but it was a notion limited when the warrior inside the omega’s stomach decided to show up and make him suffer. She'd better make her night early or she’ll have to deal with a grumpy Kacchan!
“Are you… ready for this ?” He was impatient to finally welcome her into their arms, but it seemed so far and close at the same time: Izuku and Katsuki we’re gonna be parents, and it was better than any praise they’ve received on the battlefield.
“I think I’ve always been; especially when I became yours. The last few years have been full of twists but I wouldn't change anything, even if this means falling in love with my childhood friend a thousand times in the next decades. I don’t know anything about parenting, and we’ll probably need our parents'advice at the beginning, but i know we’ll try our best, and it’s all that matters to me: to finally hold our little bean in our arms, with the man i love,” Izuku signed with a soft glances, reassuring the taller figure beside him.
Using sign language to transcribe a love confession was such a unique process, it was different from the casual words escaping their lips: When the sound was quickly forgotten and replaced by intense emotions, the sign language reflected the sincerity in the meaning of each gesture. It must explain why Izuku and Katsuki Bakugo enjoyed each confessions with enough care to frame those moments into gold. To this day, their biggest pride was to make deep conversations with this language, and the two childhood friends were happier than ever, especially now a certain someone gonna show up very soon to change their lives.
“I’m scared and I’ve never really understood why my father acted so nervous about my birth but I finally get it now. It’s not just a simple visit to the hospital, but a comma we concluded on this chapter of our life…to start another. I’m more than relieved to celebrate each first with your stupid ass and our little demon, even if she gives you hell,” Katsuki signed with a relieved expression on his face, noticing the amusing grin crossing Izuku’s lips. It was a miracle if they succeeded in making such talks in a language they didn’t understand years ago, but this hearing loss made them stronger. After all, their world could’ve fallen apart, but they never gave up, and now they’re gonna have a pup to cherish for the rest of their lives!
“She calmed down, but it doesn’t mean I forgive her. Can you believe it, she’s not even there and she already gave us the scare of our lives! What will happen to us during complicated nights? When she needs a diaper change? Maybe we’ll end up like these comical parents in the movies, who have no idea how to handle someone so tiny ?”
“I have no idea, but I know you’ll make an excellent dam, the best I’ve ever seen,” the taller man signed with a soft grin, stealing a quick kiss against his cheeks.
Izuku immediately blushed, holding his breath before returning the gesture. The taller man expected some kind of innocent teasing, but he ended up being the target of the omega’s lips against his. The position wasn’t the best they’ve experienced, but it didn’t stop the freckled man from chasing his lips against the blond in a gentle kiss. Scarred fingers cupped the alpha’s cheeks, noticing this naivety in his glance, the same one that caught his heart years ago.
“And I have no doubt about you being the perfect mate. I’ve loved you at your worst, I can affirm she’ll love you, with or without hearing. You might be the great Dynamight to the world, but you’ll always remain the vulnerable Katsuki Bakugo to my heart… and I know the little bean can agree with me. Seriously, I can already imagine how grumpy and overprotective you’ll be, it might be a miracle if she leaves the house to take some air!” Izuku signed. The taller man rolled his eyes and made sure to sit on the hospital bed, losing his fingers into the delicate ones.
“Don’t make me the bad guy, you were the one who ate crazy things! You’re the one to blame if she has weird tastes. My daughter can tolerate spicy Katsudon but she won’t eat a cucumber with chocolate for lunch-”
The atmosphere in the room became lighter, guiding their conversation into something softer with a genuine laugh and amused expression on their faces. If the couple was scared about the pressure after the birth, it doesn’t stop them from finding comfort in stupid anecdotes to share with their family. After all, the anxiety might take the lead over their rational thinking, but it doesn’t mean having this little bean by their side was considered as a chore; and the simple fact that they were actually joking about the next chaos she’ll cause, brought a sudden warmth to their chest.
Izuku and Katsuki were meant to be parents and it was better than any praise they’ve received on the battlefield.
“You’re so stupid,” the freckled man signed, his emerald eyes looking at the crimson ones with a gentle smile, cupping his mate’s cheeks in gentle movements, too afraid to ruin this breathtaking painting he had admired since his youth. “I love you.”
Katsuki’s heart missed a beat at the previous comment, which didn’t sound too different from the casual confession he welcomed with open arms, but this one was…unique. Maybe it was the delightful atmosphere in the room, their previous interactions, and mutual excitement to finally hold their pup for the first time, but the bond simply rolled his eyes. This reaction made the omega gasp, knowing his husband was used to his bullshit and understanding the slight tease. However, the taller man surprised the shorter figure by moving closer enough to drop a light kiss against his forehead, noticing the way Izuku’s face turned redder…admitting his defeat.
“I love you too, now do your job and push this brat from her cocoon,” he added, pushing a curl behind Izuku’s ears. The freckled man didn’t mind being called that way if this meant having the happy ending he always wanted, especially with his childhood friend who offered him the world in the palm of his hand with a simple grin.
“As if you were the one controlling the contractions. She's a warrior, it’s a miracle if she doesn’t get expelled from elementary school for knocking her classmates down with a punch-”
Izuku immediately noticed the sound escaping from the blond's lips, catching the omega by surprise. His emerald eyes widened after hearing a delicate melody of a laugh he forgot over the years, a treasure he never thought he would hear again.
His heart missed a beat when he realized how Katsuki’s laugh erased all his worries, longing for a future where this sound represented his new everyday, with their pup’s tears and low mumbling. It was this home he once lost, the one he was ready to fight for; it was his biggest treasure and pride. Now Izuku was excited to see what kind of reaction their daughter might have to the lyrics of his favorite song, which was Katsuki’s hidden but gentle laugh against their sensitive ears…

Hours later
The bright light passing through the transparent glass of this hospital room transformed into a shade of royal blue, highlighted by the stunning stars. Each whisper was transported by the wind, secret conversations observed by the curious forces who admire the show they’ve created.
Izuku and Katsuki Bakugou weren’t the exception to the rules from the moment the nurses came to check on the omega’s state, to Izuku’s unexpected nap. He knew someone got his back and simply smiled when he felt the calloused fingers ruffling his messy curls, explaining how he deserved this rest, even if the most important fight was awaiting him at the end of the day.
Izuku naturally fell for his imagination that created the prettiest frames, with a certain charm that convinced him to stay there a little longer. The shorter man was amused to see his mate check his phone from afar, playing with his clothes and the concerned expression on his face. A tender glance welcomed the relaxed alpha on the bed, thanking him for playing the babysitter. The couple didn’t know how long they needed to stay in this room, catching the sudden change of scenery with the night seducing the town, leaving their curious souls awake at this late hour.
If Katsuki asked if it was normal to wait this long, Izuku replied with the truth: he had no idea about how long they would stay here, but the couple won’t leave without their pup. In his mind, the omega was already projecting himself in another room, with their daughter beside him and the joy of knowing he finally made it….but this victory has to wait. The nurse often checked on his state, especially when they pointed out how pups tended to be more active at night, based on her experience. The couple thanked her for the help and continued their talk as much as they could, with the omega being wide awake and the supportive alpha doing his best to stay up and be there if something happened!
It took them two more hours before they felt the sudden contractions. Izuku almost forgot how painful they were, and thanked himself for taking the epidural, knowing he wouldn’t make it without it! Katsuki stood by his side until the movements became more repetitive. Emerald eyes met crimson ones, realizing what was happening until a relieved expression crossed their faces. Their thumbs ruffled each other’s skin until the team took the lead and brought the green-haired man to the labor room.
Izuku had never felt so much stress in his life while the repetitive contractions and their intensity became unbearable. As much as he loved his daughter, he wished she could just pop out of his body and make the job easier! The midwives made sure to check everything according to the doctor’s statement earlier, under the concerned questions of the couple. After a quick explanation about how their lives weren’t on the line, the two men relaxed and unconsciously held each other’s hands. After all, it was the hardest part and the blond wanted to be there the entire time, even if he couldn’t hear anything.
It happened in a few minutes and before realizing it, the freckled man was already regulating his breath, based on the midwife's recommendation.. The sweat on his forehead suddenly felt too heavy on his precious skin, having the impression of being torn apart by some monster who drowned him in the worst of pain. He didn’t even acknowledge the curses on his lips, under the professional care of the midwife who guided each of his steps, and the warm hands holding his sweaty skin tighter. At this point, Izuku probably left some marks that will find their places with the scars, as a reminder of this crazy adventure.
The freckled man rested his head against the pillow, glanced at the concerned alpha, lost in the euphoria of the action, who did his best to bring his support with the best of care. A slight smile crossed his lips when the calloused hands moved the lost curls behind his ears, signalling how he could break his hand, it wouldn’t matter… as long as he delivered their daughter and returned home by his side.
The green-haired man welcomed the light fingers wiping the tears on his freckled cheeks away. Izuku Bakugo Midoriya never realized how lucky he was, despite mentioning this statement a few times in the past, it became clear when his world made sense as a whole. He found the home he’s always been looking for, the partner to match his craziness, and soon, the arrival of their little miracle. It took him a few minutes to sign a light “I love you” after pushing this far and making a good part of the work, before being interrupted by the midwife's voice.
It was the most stressful moment of his life.Izuku wanted to avoid the worst-case scenarios, but he simply held on, no matter if it was from the midwives or his mate, who stood by his side. If the freckled man complained multiple times about how he wasn’t strong enough, he couldn’t step back and return home without his pup! He continued with his controlled breathing, until he reached the last push and the newborn slid without any issues, due to the huge efforts made by her dam.
If the news ravished the freckled man, he immediately rested his head on the uncomfortable pillow, sharing an amused glance with crimson irises. It was almost touching to see such an obstinate hero losing his mind over something he couldn’t control, even when one of the assistants in the background explained how “everything was fine” in sign language. However, it wasn’t considered a complete victory unless Izuku heard the newborn’s cry, something that hadn’t happened yet and caused a rising anxiety inside his chest.
However, it wasn’t considered a complete victory unless Izuku heard the newborn’s cry, something that hadn’t happened yet and stirred anxiety in his chest. He saw the shadows cutting the umbilical cord, until a sudden silence appeared in the room. ach heartbeat felt like a sudden stab as the omega prepared himself for tears of sadness and disappointment at the idea that he had failed the most important mission of his life. The calloused hands grabbed his sweaty skin tighter, feeling his worries with the same glance, realizing how Izuku was the only one he could rely on in this situation. Each expression on his face was considered a truth the blond needed to accept, even if it was either positive or negative.
A simple glance was enough to read this mutual fear of losing the thing they care the most: their daughter. The atmosphere in the room was suffocating, until a sudden sound echoed in the room, the prettiest cries that ever crossed the omega’s ears. His grip suddenly relaxed and the blond’s doubts were quickly eased when he saw the tiny newborn moving fingers in the air. This poor soul looked like she was in pain when she just left the womb, and didn’t know anything about the outside world, while the two men were too stunned to speak.
The midwife made a slight smile when she signed, “congratulations, it’s a healthy girl,” leaving the blond in a complete shock. His fingers rested against the fragile ones but didn’t fight back when he felt those thumbs leaving his heated skin to meet the air of the labor room when the tiny figure appeared in his vision.
It was ethereal to have the sudden weight of this newborn in his arms, too afraid to ruffle her cheeks and precious face. Emerald eyes couldn’t keep his glance away from the tiny human he protected the entire time, realizing how she was real and not the result of his desperate imagination. At this moment, an overwhelming joy filled his chest, his thumbs grazing against her chubby cheeks. Their eyes met, and the omega immediately fell in love with her.
After all, it was their daughter, their little treasure that was born out of true love!
Izuku didn’t know when his vision started to get blurred by the tears, but he wiped them with a quick movement to stare a little longer at the charming angel cradled against his skin. The protective blanket placed on her fragile skin wasn’t enough to erase the pain in her crimson teary eyes, already the center of her parents’ worlds when she recently left the womb. The green-haired man couldn’t help but smile, admiring how beautiful she looked with her blonde curls, lovable crimson eyes, and freckled cheeks.
She was perfect from head to toe, and the relieved scent succeeded in temporarily appeasing her cries, which hurt the vulnerable omega more than his previous failure on the battlefield. Their daughter was so… small and precious, even holding her in his shaking arms was a risk, but he gently brought her closer to his chest and shared a gentle kiss against the small forehead, This poor soul didn’t know anything about this world, but she could count on her white knights to protect her from every danger this cruel universe reserved for their future. Maybe the omega could forgive her for the previous pain and kick if she looked so beautiful and vulnerable at the same time.
Izuku couldn’t be prouder of the efforts and sweat he put in for this miracle. It was inconceivable to picture a world without this little bean, who heard so many stories about her dad who loved her more than any victories on the battlefield. It was inconceivable to picture a world without this little bean, who heard so many stories about an outside world scary for her tiny fingers, and a dad who unconditionally loved her more than any soldiers on the battlefield. He wiped the last tears away from his cheeks, holding his breath, and noticed how the tiny newborn seemed uncomfortable, until she rested closer against his naked skin. At this moment, he moved his finger into her tiny hands, holding him closer. It was the most breathtaking sensation he ever felt, having the impression it was their family against the rest of the world, a sensation he chose to cherish until his dying days.
“Hey you,” he whispered in a soft tone, trying not to scare her. The newborn moved at the sound of a familiar voice that guided her through this incredible journey, unaware of how she’d stick with it until her hair turned gray. Each movement was considered a blessing against the trembling hands, which became a source of comfort for her entire world, as small as it might be. “You’re smaller than I expected, but that’s impressive how such an adorable angel like you gave me the strongest kick. I was hoping you’d gain from Kacchan’s beauty and I was right… Look at you, being the prettiest girl I’ve ever seen, and yet, the most fragile one. You're the biggest treasure your dad and I ever received… Welcome home, sweetie.”
The slight movements from the newborn caught his attention as he ignored the background noises and focused on the tiny human against his skin, making sure their princess was in a better position. His lips kissed her blonde curls, whispering how much he loved her, until a sudden realization slapped him in the face: he forgot about Kacchan! With delicate attention, he put the blanket against the fragile skin and let his scent appease the newborn, who glanced around, probably wondering what she was doing here. The freckled man lifted his head with many assumptions, but he never expected the stunned expression on the alpha’s face. Time suddenly froze when surprised emerald eyes met charming crimson ones, being touched to see how a few tears had fallen down his porcelain skin at the scene.
If Katsuki stayed silent, he simply admired the ethereal beauty of this moment, mesmerized by the way Izuku’s face softened the moment he held their daughter for the first time.
Suddenly, the previous worries about missing important events due to his hearing loss were erased by the overwhelming happiness inside his chest, falling in love with this indelible frame he chose to mark on those black pages. Everything in this scenery was gorgeous, and the tiny human residing in the arms was probably the best present he ever received from fate. However, it was nothing compared to the slight smile on his mate’s face, who tried his best to sign with one hand, knowing the other was too occupied to hold the tiny newborn. Crimson eyes met tender emerald ones, and he dropped a slight kiss against his forehead before signing a sentence he’ll never forget.
“This is your daughter, Kacchan. We made it… Isn’t she the prettiest?”
“The best of all, she even gained for your freckles, as we promised,” he signed back with a slight grin, welcoming the tears falling down his cheeks. He couldn’t believe how he was finally a father, an old man for the tiny newborn who looked at him with the most adorable expression on her face. He moved to drop a light kiss against her blonde curls, looking at how fragile she was, under the amazed expression on his husband’s face.
“Look sweetie,” the freckled man whispered, feeling the small hands leaving his skin.“I think it’s time to meet the most important person in your life. He’ll cherish you like the apple of his eyes… Do you want to say hi to your dad or are you already taking after grumpy moods?”
The question was easily solved when the newborn started to cry, under the amused expression on Izuku’s face, and the concerned one on the blond's. If the two men needed some rest after this rush of emotions, it didn’t stop them from being proud of this journey, knowing their daughter was finally by their side with the best of care.

Katsuki Bakugo’s world fell apart during this fateful morning that marked his downfall.
His entire life, the golden-haired man was taught to be unforgivable in his own way, being with his childhood friend who erased the fake grins on his lips to replace them with real ones, stealing the omega’s heart on the way. The close proximity between them made their bond more authentic to this chosen narrative. All those years of delight led to a comfy lifestyle with good prospects for their future, but the news of his progressive hearing loss acted like a slap in the face.
The blond tried to handle it as best as he could, with the emotional support of his husband and his reassuring smiles, telling him it’ll be alright… a lie they didn’t believe, but claimed in their illusion of hope. The taller man was grateful for everything that happened since his first meeting with Izuku, from the moment they played together for the first time, to them standing on the altar with adoring expressions on their faces. However, this enchantment wasn’t meant to last and changes became inevitable.
Losing his hearing represented a huge change in his life. The long break before returning to the battlefield, his role being reduced to simple missions, being considered weak by the public. He knew how this would impact his mate, more than it already did in the last few months. He was supposed to make Izuku proud… So when did he fail the most important mission of his life and become a shadow of himself?
That day, the shock became too unbearable, acting like a thousand stabs in the chest. He never thought the harsh voice he often used to make stupid comments would be reduced to a simple breath, under the heartbroken expression on Izuku’s face. The freckled man pretended they’ll survive, but he stopped believing in his lies when his trembling body rested against his mate during tough nights. The golden-haired man admired by his surroundings ended up being a shell of himself, with nothing but suffering on his empty chest. The more he tolerated this pain in silence, the more heartbroken he became when his eyes met the emerald ones, knowing how their mask had to fall one of these days.
When it happened, it left irreplaceable scars in their shattered hearts.
The tears they’ve shed and the reminder of their new reality hurt like hell, but it was necessary to start on better terms. Izuku looked at him with adoration and promised to love him until death do they part, transforming the stoic figure into an emotional mess. Katsuki considered himself a bother, someone who thought it better to rot in the ashes of his broken promises than shine in the light of his past. It was strange to adapt to silence when his entire life had been surrounded by noise… but he needed to survive, even if this took years to have a good relationship with this twist of fate.
Seeing a therapist helped him to accept the fact that he couldn’t return to the past, but what truly motivated him was the numerous efforts made by his husband to heal by his side. The freckled man could’ve stayed in his own comfort and left him behind, but instead, he made sure to use all the resources within his reach and even started to communicate in sign language! Those little gestures, as meaningless as they seemed, was proof of love for the blond, who admired the caring devotion that transcribed through the presence of golden rings on their fingers.
Izuku was his savior, and the blond was too stubborn to let him know this truth. He wasn’t making all that progress for his therapist, but to see the prideful expression on his childhood friend’s face after a new step.
Healing took a long time, and the idea of never using his voice again was a habit for the taller man, who became smooth with sign language and used it as his main way to communicate with others. Katsuki got used to this lifestyle he considered annoying, until he started learning the good side of new beginnings, such as “spider sense”, another trick that gave him the ability to notice something without his hearing, or his presence on the rank with lighter but important missions.
He never thought he would be able to feel happy after this sudden downfall, but he slowly learned to trust life and thanked his husband for the endless support offered in this journey. The best surprise he ever received from fate was the pregnancy test with a positive result, next to a trembling Izuku with teary emerald eyes, signifying how he was going to be a father. At this moment, his chest, previously filled with heavy thorns, was overwhelmed with genuine bliss… something he hadn’t felt in a long time. The tears that fell down his cheeks echoed as precious treasure of this miracle he didn’t expect, especially when he was happier than ever to know Izuku was the one bearing their child. Katsuki wouldn’t wish for a better man than the nerd for this spot, even if both men shared the same mutual apprehensions about the unknown, but they had another goal to reach from now on…
Izuku wanted to involve Katsuki’s existence in her life, and reassure him about being the best father this pup could ever have. After all the echography, sacrifices, and changes on the omega’s body, it was the least Katsuki could do to let him know how much he loved him, even at his worst. Don’t get him wrong, stealing a quick kiss against his husband’s lips after one of his strange food mixes wasn’t the best souvenir he got from this experience, but he’ll never forget how gorgeous his mate looks. Each transformation made him prettier than ever, even if the nerd wasn’t convinced by his arguments, but he always listened to the blond's praise and rested his head against his shoulders, being excited to welcome this child.
The second time Katsuki faced an unexpected twist took place during the sudden rush to the hospital.
The golden-haired man had faced many villains in his career, but he underestimated how fate could be one of them. This time, it wasn’t a simple shadow saying bullshit to get the camera’s attention, but an invisible force that guided each of their decisions. They already faced both cases, worst for the hearing loss, and best for the existence of their daughter... but now her life was on the line, everything became ten times scarier.
It didn’t stop him from admiring his husband’s strength at all the sacrifices he made to bring this pup into their lives. Sometimes living in complete silence was exhausting, but there were exceptions when he wished he still had his hearing to catch the pup’s heartbeat. The worst part was how the alpha blamed himself for being the cause of this tragedy, no matter how many times his husband reassured him about this topic.
This silent treatment he imposed on himself condemned his loved ones, forced them to adapt to drastic changes made by his selfish choice, something that resulted from an unhealthy coping mechanism. Katsuki will never forget how his heart missed a beat when he stared at the sleeping figure of his husband on this hospital bed, their moving pup in the background, both wearing peaceful expressions.
It was all he ever wanted; a future with the man he loved, a family with their daughter - maybe more kids if it was possible, and a career that didn’t consider him as a bother. In the labor room, he prepared for the worst revelations until the midwife explained how the pup was delivered in the best conditions. Katsuki thanked the gods for saving his mate and daughter’s lives by avoiding another tragedy that would dig his own grave! He didn’t know what he would do in a world without his childhood friend, and was more than relieved to see the happy expression crossing the omega’s face.
He fell more in love with the green-haired man the moment the emerald eyes stayed focused on the tiny human inside his shaking arms, giving tender kisses against this fragile skin and whispering a speech he couldn’t understand. The only thing he cared about was the fact that his childhood friend looked gorgeous under this angle, holding his heart hostage while taking care of their daughter with all the love in the world. Katsuki knew this affection for their firstborn would be unconditional, but it was nothing compared to the moment where his crimson teary eyes met the innocent ones, being as tiny as the little bean she used to be in the womb.
At this moment, joy filled his chest and guided his body to welcome their daughter with the welcome she deserved: A kiss was nothing compared to the rest of the journey between the trio, but it was the most unforgettable day of Katsuki Bakugo’s life Their daughter was finally here, safe with his husband, and he was amazed to finally see this tiny newborn grow by their side.
—
Katsuki couldn’t find sleep, making thousands of steps in their room.
It was a miracle the hospital let him stay for the night, some VIP privilege he could use with his hero title. He noticed the peaceful expression on his husband’s face, and the tiny fingers moving the air beside him. His fingers gently caressed her chubby freckled cheeks, looking at her adorable sleeping figure relaxing at the touch until she was concerned by something else. This angel didn’t know how tough it would be to get rid of a protective father like Katsuki.
Don’t blame him for being overprotective of his one-day-old princess, who needed the best of care with her precious crimson eyes and curious expression, fixed on the stranger by his side. He was ready to take the world down for a glimpse of her smile, and wondered how her baby laugh would sound when she was older. Izuku promised him that he would teach her sign language as soon as possible without overwhelming her, treating this as a game, until she was able to make conversations and communicate with her dad. The news brought tears back to the blond's cheeks, under the touch of the omega who welcomed him into an embrace.
The strong hands that took many lives ended up becoming as soft as the slight breath against his skin, sending the hero to cloud nine. He understood now why Izuku was so obsessed with the idea of feeling her tiny body against his skin: It felt too ethereal to imagine how this pup they waited for endless months was finally in the same world as them. Katsuki wanted to make the newborn laugh until her eyes shone brighter than any midnight sky, with her nonexistent teeth and chubby face.
He was sure he wouldn’t let anyone break her fragile heart, or he’d kick their ass! There was no doubt, Izuku and Katsuki were meant to be the best parents and this theory became a reality the moment their eyes met their daughter’s, who became the center of their worlds.
The moving blanket against her stomach was enough to show how everything was alright, despite her being awake at this late hour. His finger met the tiny hands which immediately held onto his, with their eyes meeting each other, trying to figure out the identity of this stranger who looked like her. The situation amused the blond who released a soft chuckle, feeling how small she was compared to him, wondering how she could fit inside the omega’s womb.

Katsuki had so many things to say, and yet, he was ready to wait to let their princess know about the blessing she represented in their lives. Suddenly, the constant silence became forgotten once their daughter’s warmth met his, forgetting his surroundings. At this moment, it was only he and his beloved pup, who owned her dam’s genetics and endearing freckles. Each time he looked at this tiny human, he fell for the copy of his childhood friend, who transformed his narrative into the most breathtaking poem. The calloused hand wiped the tears away with a soft sigh, looking at the tiny figure who let go of his finger and gently closed her eyes. His finger caressed the chubby cheeks, and let his heart express itself for the first time in years.
“Welcome home, brat,” the words naturally escaped from his lips, unaware of the bomb he dropped to the curious eyes, looking at him from afar.
His heart and soul were finally appeased by the presence of this sleeping figure beside him, looking innocent and too precious to be stolen by the cruelty of this world. The newborn, despite her peaceful sleep, had no idea how she was the reason for the most important change in her parents’ lives, bringing back a miracle the couple thought forgotten in the ashes of a past they cherished more than anything else. Katsuki dropped a light kiss against her forehead, feeling the fresh scent that brought a smile back to his face.
He turned around, catching the freckled man standing on the hospital bed with wide teary eyes, holding one of those loving smiles he spared for their most vulnerable moments. Scarred hands were holding the white sheet with unstable movements, the intense emotions inside his chest. Katsuki rushed to the shaking omega, and naturally twisted his fingers into the blond’s shirt, refusing to let him go. The blond was surprised and tried his best to calm down the sudden sob that probably echoed in the room, unaware of how he was the reason for this sudden emotional breakdown.
Izuku held onto the hope of listening to his soft laugh and stupid comments one last time, instead of holding on to blurry memories that used to be his everything. At first, he considered this a tricky illusion from his desperate mind, but even his imagination couldn’t transcribe this care that resided in the delicate tone, a melody to his sensitive ears. Tears fell down his cheeks when he realized how it wasn’t a dream and his husband decided to break this cycle and use his voice after years of silence. Back in those days, the freckled man was afraid of living in a world without his mate’s stupid praise, until he accepted this reality, knowing that breathing the same air as him was better than remembering him in front of a cold grave. What made this moment more memorable was the fact that Katsuki chose to use his words for someone important to him: their daughter.
Miracles did exist and the green-haired man will be forever grateful for the second chance.
He didn’t think twice before resting his head against the blond’s chest, wrapping his hands around his back. If he was emotive for this kind of interaction with their pup, he wondered how many tears he was ready to share once his husband started talking to him again. Izuku was so proud of these huge efforts, knowing how it might be difficult to start after the evident damage caused by this sudden hearing loss. Izuku held the blond tighter, releasing his heavy sobs in the hospital room as he welcomed the bliss rising inside his chest, knowing living was worth the try now he had everything he ever wanted: a wonderful daughter and the blessing of Kacchan’s voice.
The freckled man moved his fingers to cup the blond's cheeks. The scarred hands gently caressed his husband’s skin, making sure not to break this fascinating piece of art, and the source of his genuine happiness, caused by something as gentle as a simple sound. Izuku Bakugo Midoriya was the happiest man, knowing he had to spend the rest of his life with his other half, his family, and each treasure he considered a blessing in his everyday life.
Katsuki didn’t know when he started to tear up, and simply welcomed the smaller hands pulling him closer until their lips met in a loving kiss. Their salty tears mixed with their brushed mouths that chased after each other, afraid to let the reassuring figure go. Scarred fingers found their way into spiky hair, only easing their grip to let the taller figure hold him closer until their foreheads met. A stupid smile crossed their lips, communicating with a simple glance. This moment was their greatest joy, something time can’t take away or erase with dust on pages they’ve marked with an indelible ink.
Their daughter was born out of true love, something that could be transcribed in the way she reflected the natural charm owned by her parents. This poor soul was unaware of the protection she would get for the rest of her life due to the symbolism of her birth; a sign of revival and new beginnings, something their old selves would’ve never thought possible until now.
“You…” Izuku could barely sign, kissing the blond's cheeks and admiring the rising blush on his skin, a sight he could never get tired of. “You’ve made it, Kacchan. I’m so proud of you.”
The couple knew it was only a slow beginning until they started to regain their old habits, but they could never thank the stars enough for bringing their daughter as the savior they needed. The freckled man couldn’t wait to see the day when his childhood friend would say his name again. Their narrative hadn’t been the most linear one, with events that forced their naive souls to grow up too fast, but the wasted tears were worth the try if this means chasing after this happy ending served on a silver spoon.
