    Cloud hated what he’d become. 

    He hated what they’d turned him into. 

    Hated what he’d let them do to him. 

    But there was no way to reverse the damage done, undo the things they did to him, change him back into the child he once was. 

    He wasn’t ever going back to that boy, that life. 

    He could barely even remember that life as it was!

    Or at least he couldn’t trust his own memories of that life to be real, especially after he’d found out about Zack. 

    OR: In which Cloud is miserable until he *gasp* gets a hug, this is Aerith's circus and she is going to protect her monkeys with her life, and Zack haunts the narrative surprisingly well for a guy.
