Work Text:

Mike's laying on the couch in the basement. He's watching a movie with his friends, and they're planning to go to sleep after it's over, so he's already got a blanket pulled over himself, partially because the basement as freezing. Max made that clear when she was whining about it not even ten minutes ago.

The basement door opens, and Will walks down the steps, carrying a bowl of popcorn that he left to go make a few minutes ago. His hands are shaking as he sets the bowl on the coffee table. Mike reaches out to grab his hand, thinking it might be anxiety, but in reality, it seems that Will is just freezing. He pulls his hand away because of how cold Will's hand is.

"Get in here," Mike says, pulling the blanket back and adjusting so that there's space for Will on the couch.

Will turns around to face Mike, giving him a very confused look. "What?"

"You're freezing," Mike points out. "Cuddle." He says it almost like an order.

Will smiles despite his confusion. He lays on the couch with Mike, and they adjust until they're more comfortable. Will ends up laying half on top of Mike, resting his head on his chest.

It's the cutest thing Mike has ever seen.

"Oh, but it meant nothing when I was cold?" Max questions, looking at the two boys on the couch.

"Shut up, you've got your boyfriend," Mike argues. "And your girlfriend."

Max smirks. "And you've got your boyfriend, I see."

Both Mike and Will give her the middle finger.

Dustin gasps dramatically. "That's new! I've never seen Will flip someone off before."

Jane chuckles. "Don't worry, Will, I won't tell mom."

"Will!" Max complains, "I thought I was your best friend! How dare you." She's just teasing and doesn't actually mean it. Truthfully, she seems kinda proud of Will.

"Shut up," Will complains.

"Oof, we've got sassy Byers tonight," Lucas jokes.

Will turns his head so that he's facing the couch instead of their friends. Everyone returns to focusing on the movie.

Subconsciously, Mike brings his hand up to the nape of Will's neck, and starts mindlessly playing with his hair. Soon enough, he feels Will's breathing even out against his chest, and he realizes that Will has fallen asleep.

The movie reaches the end credits, and everyone starts moving to their sleeping bags. Mike, however, is trapped on the couch.

He either sleeps on the uncomfortable couch all night, or he wakes Will up.

Neither of those sound like good options.

Mike lays on the couch for just a little longer, thinking of what to do. Eventually, he gets a brilliant idea.

He could just carry Will up to bed with him.

Now, Mike's not very strong, but he thinks he can do it. He's quite ambitious, and he has his mind set on this. There's no other option but to carry Will upstairs.

First, he sits up, which makes it so that Will's sitting in his lap. Then, he grabs Will's legs and wraps them around his waist so that he'll be easier to carry.

Somehow, Will does not wake up throughout this. He stays sound asleep.

Mike takes Will's arms and drapes them over his shoulders, then wraps his own arms around Will's waist. He stands up from the couch, taking a second to regain his balance and adjust his grip. One arm stays around Will's waist, and the other moves to support his legs.

Then, Mike starts walking up the basement stairs, which turns out to be quite dangerous, but he makes it up to the kitchen in one piece.

Still, Will's sleeping peacefully, his head buried in the crook of Mike's neck.

Walking through the kitchen is a little easier, but then Mike has to walk up another flight of stairs to get to his room. He nearly falls backwards a couple times, which scares the shit out of him.

Thankfully, he never actually falls, and safely arrives at top of the stairs. It's just a short walk to his room, then he finally lays Will down on his bed.

Since they're both already in pajamas, Mike just crawls in bed next to him and pulls the covers up. He falls asleep almost as soon as his head hits the pillow, and he decides that he's never doing that again.

Will does not expect to wake up in Mike's bed in the middle of the night. Either this is a dream, or his interal clock in broken, waking him up at the wrong time.

He pinches himself to check, and it hurts, so it must be the latter. Which makes sense, considering this tends to happen a lot. He'll be sound asleep, then his brain wakes up at 2am as if it were 8am.

In the dark of the night, he can't see much, but he's certain that Mike is asleep next to him. As much as he doesn't want to, he decides to wake Mike up and ask what happened. He could wait until morning, but he's feeling kinda anxious right now.

"Mike," Will whispers, shaking his shoulder. Mike hums, so he must be starting to wake up. "Mike," he tries again.

"Hm?" Mike questions, lifting his head from the pillow and sitting up, blinking his eyes open.

Will sits up, too, leaning back on his elbows. "What happened last night?" He asks. "I don't remember coming upstairs."

"Oh... uh, you fell asleep on me," Mike answers, voice dry from just waking up. He clears his throat. "I didn't really want to sleep on the couch, but I didn't want to wake you up either, so I just carried you up here."

Will's jaw drops. "You carried me? All the way up here?"

"What's that supposed to mean?" Mike pouts.

"Nothing, sorry," Will apolgises.

Mike hums. "Can we just go back to sleep?" He asks, flopping back down agaisnt the pillow. Then he grabs Will's arm, pulling it so that they're closer again. "Please, baby."

"Woah, what?" Will questions, not sure if he heard that right.

"What?" Mike asks, as if he doesn't realize what he just said. Then it clicks. "Oh! Shit! Sorry." He hides his face in the pillow, no longer meeting Will's eyes.

Will chuckles. "Um, it... it's okay," he says.

"I can call you that?" Mike asks, turning to face Will again.

Will nods sheepishy.

"Oh... well, actually, I have a few better ideas," Mike tells him. "Like, my boyfriend, love of my life, honey, beautiful, bunny, mine–"

"You– what?"

Mike furrows his eyebrows. "That's what you were implying, right?"

"I–"

"Shit, I'm sorry. I should've–"

"Mike," Will interrupts. "It's okay. I just didn’t... I didn't know..."

"That I'm absolutely down bad for you?" Mike supplies.

Will smiles, chuckling. "Um, I guess?"

"Well, I am," Mike tells him with a grin. "So, please, spoon me," he requests, turning so his back is facing Will.

"I don't get a kiss first?" Will asks.

Mike turns back around, cups Will's face, and kisses him like it's his life's purpopse. If you ask him, it probably is.

After they kiss, they smile at eachother. Then Mike rolls over again, and Will wraps his arms around his waist, spooning him.

It's the best sleep that either of them have ever gotten.
