Summary
"Cerydra brought her goblet to her mouth, allowing a few drops to pass between her lips. Refusing the gift would warn Meliton that she was aware of his play. Mad honey was rarely lethal; she could afford to ingest some. Some weeks ago, Meliton had planted an assassin among her staff. Once he had weakened her with the poison, the killer would strike. Why should anyone suspect poison when she had been killed by a cutthroat?
A foolish ploy by a foolish man. He had asked to dine with her privately but had violated his own request. His blade lurked in the shadows; she had taken it upon herself to invite hers as well. It was a shame that Hysilens should only be able to watch rather than join in the meal. She did so enjoy them."
Or: In a ploy to draw out an assassin, Cerydra drinks poison and Hysilens defends her in her vulnerable state. For her loyalty, Cerydra gives her beloved knight a reward.
