Work Text:

Over the past few weeks Ritsu and Shou had a very strange arrangement.

In the middle of the night when Ritsu would be up studying, Shou would appear at his window, and when let in, lay down on Ritsu's bed and play games on his phone until he passed out.

Ritsu never really questioned how this came to be, but it was nicer hearing Shou giggle at whatever funny image he found online than sit there at three in the morning in dead silence.

Even when Shou had fallen asleep and the silence engulfed Ritsu's room once more, it was peaceful and inviting and...warm. Ritsu didn't know exactly why Shou would stay up so late with him. Whether it be Shou was dealing with some things or had a bad enough sleeping schedule to keep Ritsu company, Ritsu had never rejected him.

In fact, the nights when Shou wasn't there were when it was hardest to get anything done, let alone sleep. The silence was uncomfortable and the room seemed almost darker without Shou's fire-like hair lighting up the place.

That wasn't the case tonight. Tonight, Shou was there, asleep on Ritsu's bed. His breathing even and the quiet snores were enough noise to ease the other boy. Complete silence made him anxious, while playing music always distracted him. Ritsu never could get used to just how quiet Shou was when he slept, though. He thought he would snore really loud, fidget, maybe talk in his sleep a little. He didn't though, the only movement was the rise and fall of his chest.

It put Ritsu in a sleepy daze, having someone so energetic be at peace really made it hard not follow suit. He found himself reading the same paragraph again and again. Doing the same math equation again and again. Until finally, he got up from his desk and wiggled his way next to Shou in the bed.

Typically Ritsu would have laid out a spare futon for himself to sleep on, or not sleep at all if he had an important test to study for, but it had been a long day and it had completely slipped his mind. Shou wouldn't mind sharing the bed for just one night...

And it really seemed he didn't. When Ritsu woke up to the sound of his alarm that morning, he found he and Shou had ended up a lot closer than Ritsu remembered before he fell asleep. Their limbs entangled in each other's, with Shou snuggled up against Ritsu's chest, not yet awake.

Ritsu felt that the appropriate reaction to this would be to freak out a little, unwrap himself and never speak nor think of it ever again.

He liked it though. He was comfortable, warm and could feel the steady rise and fall of Shou's chest up against him. The sun peaked into the room just enough to spark the light of shou's hair but not yet enough to hurt Ritsu's eyes as he tried to keep himself awake. If it weren't the constant beeping, he would have been completely at peace.

Using his psychic powers to shut off his alarm, Ritsu laid with the other boy in his arms for an immeasurable amount of time (although he hoped it was only a few minutes.) Ritsu snapped out of it when he felt Shou had began to stir and it made all the butterflies Ritsu didn't know he had erupt in his stomach.

Shou nuzzled closer and mumbled a groggy "Mornin." and Ritsu's face grew to be as red as the others hair.

He wanted to pull away, didn't want to have to address the fact that yeah, this was a thing. Yeah, he was feeling some not-so platonic emotions right now. But he took a deep breath instead and replied with a slightly shaky "Good morning."

Shou chuckled, which wasn't helping Ritsu's butterfly situation at all. He was sure Shou could feel how fast his heart was beating. Hell, his face right there up against his chest, it would be impossible for him not to.

"Hey..." Shou spoke after a moment, pulling his face up to look at Ritsu.

"Yeah...?"

"Can you make coffee ? You kept me up late with all your nerd stuff."

Oh.

"Whatever, my parents are going to wonder why you keep staying the night on school nights."

"It's cuz I live here now."

"Might as well." Ritsu chuckled, and finally pulled himself away from Shou.

The other looked upset, probably because he wasn't fully awake yet. Yeah, that was it.

"How do you like yours ?"

"Mm..." Shou grumbled, propping himself up with one elbow and rubbing the sleep from his eyes with his free hand. "Lots of creamer. Pull back on the sugar though. I know you dump half the bag in yours."

"Shut up, I only put two spoonfuls in. At most."

"Whatever you say."

Before Ritsu could make a comeback, Shigeo came in.

"Ritsu's it's time to...ah, hello Suzuki-kun." he said in his normal monotone, although a small smile lit up his face when he saw the two of them laying in bed together. Ritsu was horrified to say the least.

"I can give you guys a moment." Shigeo said, already closing the door.

"N-nii-san it's not...!" but it was too late. Shigeo was gone.

"It's not not what ?" Shou teased, and ritsu slammed a pillow right in his face.

"Shut up before your coffee ends up on your head instead."

"Is that a threat or a promise ?"

"Shou !"
