Chapter Text
Nancy is on her way to the roof when she sees Robin, she's leaning across the bench from Max, explaining something which is making the other girl laugh hysterically. For a horrid moment, Nancy is worried about what she could be saying, but then remembers that Robin isn't the type of person to do that, so walks over with more confidence than she had.
"And then he said 'i know about frets, it's when you worry about something, right? My aunt is married to a British man.'"
Max nearly falls off the table for laughter, Robin almost doing so too.
"Oh my god!" Max whines, "He has such a crush!"
Robin sat straighter.
"Oh I know, when he figures it out Munson is gonna have one hell of a time working that out."
"Working what out?"
Robin grinned wider, but Max felt herself shut off slightly.
"We just think Steve just has a crush on one of Dustin's DnD friends, he's in the older years so it's not weird, by the way."
Nancy nodded along, acting as though that wasn't a huge deal to say about someone.
"Would that make Steve gay?"
Robin shrugged and Max just shook her head.
"Who knows, but personally I hear he loved you, so," she looked up, eyes challenging, "maybe he's bi."
Nancy nodded, clenching and releasing her bag over her chest.
"Then we'd have that in common."
Did I really just say that?
Max looks between them and sighs, pulling her headphones up with a wave.
"Go to the roof to be all lovey dovey, I wanna be able to stomach my food."
"You mean my food-"
She eats the apple with a nod, tapping the headphones.
"Can't hear you, music."
Robin rolls her eyes, and Nancy makes a move. She reaches for her wrist, then decides… fuck it, and grabs her hand instead. This alone freezes Robin to the core, and she drags her up and toward the building. They pass questioning eyes and even Mr Peterson sticks his head out the door, but nothing can stop her. Robin opens the roof door and before she can even put the keys back in her pocket, Nancy is on her.
They leant against the door, mouths and lips moving as one in a fashion they became familiar too, but by no means bored of. Nancy's hands reached for the bandy curls at the base of Robin's neck as the other girl leant down, cupping her cheek and tilting up her chin.
They separate from each other, Nancy staring up at her through those thick eyelashes with a fear she hated to see on Nancy Wheeler's face: fear, uncertainty, worry.
"Nancy, what-"
"I like Bo Derek."
She blinked once, maybe twice.
"You mean the actress slash model? She seems like a nice person I guess-"
"No, as in I like her, like how I like Tom Cruise, and I liked Steve and Johnathan."
Robin for once doesn't speak, like it would break a spell over them. Nancy tries to say more, but her words are eaten in her throat.
"Like… like I like you."
"Nancy, I don't-"
"I'm bisexual, I'm not a confused straight girl, I swear! I just-"
Robin's hands reach up and still her speaking, leaning forward and resting her forehead against Nancy's.
"I believe you, Nance. I like you too."
"Y- you do?"
Robin looked baffled.
"Of course, you're amazing! I mean, I didn't even know until the other day in your room, I told Steve about it -" and Nancy's look she quickly added "- not everything. Just what I felt, he said it sounded like I was falling for Nancy Wheeler."
There's silence, and Robin can feel the ramble make its way out her throat.
"Then Eddie Munson came over, asked how we got in the bar, recognised us from school. He brought up playing guitar, Steve asked him, they got onto chords and guitar frets, and bless him trying to impress Eddie."
Nancy watched the emotions dance across Robin's face as she recounted the event, feeling something soft in her chest.
"So I think Steve fancies him, even if he doesn't know yet. Hey, maybe we could double date?"
Nancy's hand covered her mouth with a soft grin.
"How about we go on a date just us first, yeah?"
Robin nodded.
"I'd… I'd like that."
Nancy drops her hand, bringing it behind Robin's head and pulling her closer, until they meet again.
