Chapter Text
Danny was nervous. Granted he was often nervous. Between the ghost attacks, hunters, and school it was pretty much garenteed that Danny existed in an almost perpetual state of anxiety. However this time it was a little different.
Sure it was the familiar concern about what new horror would grace his life this week, only this time it was from the GIW. A group that Danny had written off as a background concern. A government run supernatural hunting group known as the Ghost Investigation Ward, or The Guys In White. As citizens of Amity so ‘lovingly’ call them. A group hated by anyone under the age of twenty.
It was a small miracle that all none governmental based hunters hated them as well. Considering none affiliated hunters were often called quacks or wackos. Which was ironic since independent hunters were usually amazing at their job. The mutral hatred was very beneficial to Danny's continued well being, so he had no interest in correcting the GIW world view.
Today, however, the GIW was at the school. In an extremely unusual show of concern for the community. They had forced everyone to proticate in a lecture. Going through the dangers of ectoplasm based entities, and how to escape them. The most concerning bit was on how to spot one trying to blend in with humans. It had been surprisingly accurate. Which was unsettling and lead to a lot of questions on how they knew.
This of course added ‘raid the GIW’ to his ever expanding to do list. Unfortunately it was only lunch so the raid would have to wait until after school. Leaving Danny to stew on the possble torture of unnamed ghosts at they government labs.
Danny used his plastic spork to poke suspiciously at the food. Both of his friends arguing over the information from the presentation. Perhaps he could ask Wolf to join him in the raid. He might need a quick getaway, and any ghosts Danny managed to save would need a way home.
A caugh drew his attention away from the weird smelling food. Valarie sat a few tables away looking a bit ill. Her hand holding her throat as she rushed for her glass. Tray pushed away.
Another caugh forced his attention away from Valarie. Concern etched on his face. Wes sat at another table desperately gulping his drink. Face a bit red. As if he was breaking out in a rash.
More caughs sounded through the cafeteria. Hands desperately grabing for their drinks. Most of the kids were just caughing a bit looking disgusted by the food. Faces slightly paler then normal. However there were some more extreme reactions like Valarie's and Wes's.
A small curse came from across Danny's table. Food tray hitting the floor as Tucker gasped for breath. His face red and eyes watering.
“Tuck!” Danny shouted in panic quickly making his way around the table. Sam was just as concerned sitting next to him. The two trying to help without knowing what was wrong.
Around the cafeteria more caughing and exclamation could be heard. Tucker gasped for breath as if he was choking on something.
Panicked Danny turned his hand intangible and ran it along Tucker's throat intent on finding the problem. Only nothing was there. Tucker's throat was clear.
Sam looked at Danny with slightly wild eyes having shifted to hide her friends from the view of the rest of the room. Danny shook his head unsure of what to do next.
The sound of something metal slamming onto the floor drew the duo's attention. Valerie had shoved her chair back in a rush to get up. Eyes watering as she pulled a flask from her pocket. Without the slightest hesitant she downed the liquid face scrunched in disgusted. Only a second later she doubled over heaving her lunch contents onto the floor.
One desperate gasp of air later Red was on the move. Eyes alight and on a mission. She ran to Wes forcing the poor boy to swallow whatever was in the flask.
Danny didn't watch the scene repeat. The earlier display having already informed him the problem was the school lunch. With a muttered apology he shoved his hand in Tucker's mouth forcing him to gag, evacuating his stomach.
Sam pulled a deep purple handkerchief from her pocket, and whiped Tucker's face. Her hands shaking as the adrenalin wore off.
Tucker having recovered from his near death was not looking so well. He was still red in the face and a little short of breath. The boy was clinging to his best friends. Their presents anchoring him in the now.
Danny however was furious! The GIW had poisoned the food. Sure there hasn't been any proof yet, but the coincidence was too much. With blazing green eyes the halfa scanned the cafeteria, seeing everyone having an adverse reaction. Granted not as bad as Tucker's, Valarie's, or even Wes's for some reason.
With a frown Danny slowly poked the untouched food. Food he now realized didn't really smell right. Almost immediately a sizzling burning sensation traveled up his hand. Yelping, Danny jerked back from the hostile food.
Blood Blossom. There was Blood Blossom in the food! How did the GIW even get ahold of the nearly extinct plant? Danny glared at the trays. The tempature rapidly drop.
The audacity to do this in HIS town, HIS Haunt! No, this would not do. Danny’s thoughts twisted as he glared at the food. A primal anger rising from his core.
Sam and Tucker watched on as Danny's form began to glitch. Ghostly static fading in and out, while shadows grew. The noon sunlight taking on a eery and aggressive feel. “Danny...' Sam hissed nervously. Eyes darting around the very crowded and public cafeteria . Granted everyone was pretty distracted right now.
Tucker grabbed Danny's arm, or what should be an arm as the glitching was making it hard to tell. “Danny, you need to calm down man.” He whispered. “I'm fine now. We're fine.”
Danny let out a soft growl. Eyes blazing as he critically looked over the room. No, this would not stand at all. With one last look to his friend, making sure the were alright, Danny melted from sight. His body sinking into the ground with only one thing in mind. The GIW.
Sam and Tucker glanced at eachother then back at the spot Danny used to be. With a mutter of “fuck” Sam pulled out her phone and called Vlad. Hopefully the other Halfa will stop Danny before it was too late.
