Chapter Text

The sun was beginning to set and the moon was raising along with the stars it always brought along with it, the moon was beautiful and the stars brought it out more but some would say that the stars were the best part.

Stars were like little white freckles scattered along the dark blue of the night sky and it was a beautiful sight, sometimes he had forgotten that the moon was there at its full beauty sue tithe stars twinkling nature.

That’s what the rusted furred monkey thought at least, he like the night more then the day and maybe it was due to his creator always being compared to the actual sun and Macaque being his moon but the clone didn’t like the moon…he adored the stars.

It was a nice and peaceful silent night, no shadow clone to bother him like the past few decades and he needed some time alone from the other, he didn’t hate the other…it was more of needing some personal space to clear ones headspace.

He wouldn’t lie and say the the shadow wasn’t fun, it was quite the opposite really and that was due to them always being up to something wether that would be tricks or just trying to steal from the village they were staying close to.

That ended soon as he heard a tree branch snap and down came a blur of dark purple that landed with a loud thud, he simply looked over at the other clone and he was a bit unimpressed since he was used to the other secretly following him sometimes.

“Took you long enough to find me, surprised you didn’t poke me with a stick”, the rusted furred monkey said towards the other, the shadow still had their face planted into the ground and all you could hear were muffled statements.

It took a few seconds for the shadow to finally lift themselves off the forums even if they said that it was ‘comfortable’, that was a lie and no one can ever say that facing planting into the dirt is comfortable.

“Anyway, what are you doing out here Goldie?”

“You’re still calling me that…but if your so curious I’m just enjoying the view of the stars tonight”

“Listen it was either goldie or hair clone and I prefer goldie”, the shadow explained and he had a point since they didn’t exactly want to call each other by their creator’s names, it would been weird to call yourself after the person that technically made you.

Flicking the others forehead in a playful manner was exactly what the hair clone did, even if he got a complaint from the shadow about it but he didn’t care since it didn’t actually hurt him.

He wouldn’t lie and say that getting use to the dark furred monkey was easy and a smooth ride, it had a lot of bumps…like a had and all their problems mostly came from their creators' unsolved issues like Macaque’s lack of self care and Wukong’s obsession for peaches.

Peaches…are a bit disgusting to him, don’t get him wrong but he just didn’t enjoy peaches like the real Wukong does and he doesn’t exactly know why or how it started as a problem but it didn’t, he can tolerate peaches…he just strongly dislikes them.

Looking back at the shadow, he couldn’t help but to have a small smile on his face due to the other being fascinated by the way the stars twinkled and how the bright the moon was with its slight pale honey color.

The hair clone blamed Wukong’s leftover feelings for Macaque since staring at the clone would always make his heart beat a bit faster and how his stomach felt like it had butterflies in it…but gross if you took it literally or how the shadows eyes looked like stars compared to the rest of them.

It was stupid to even think he liked them and it wasn’t true at all! It was just Wukong’s fault and that was the truth, it’s not like he wanted to personally take the shadow out in a date or hold their hand…that was his creators fault.

“I was thinking…what if we give ourself or each other names? Since I don’t really wanna be called Macaque and I doubt you wanna be called Wukong”, the shadow said looking at the rusted furred monkey and he was telling the truth since neither of them wanted to be called the names of their creators.

Of course if they wanted to be lazy and pick the name Mihóu for the shadow but that wouldn’t really suit them at all, they needed a good name and something that did suit them well enough but what would that be?

“….Xīngyè….”, The hair clone mumbled to himself, it simply meant starry night and of course he only thought of that due to the other’s eyes looking like twinkling stars in the sky but he looked over at the shadow who had a surprised expression.

He realized what he said while looking at the others facial expression and started to apologize in a panic but he stopped once he heard the dark furred monkey burst out into a laughing fit.

It took a while for the shadow to calm down but after they did, he gave the hair clone a small smile and having the others guard down…they threw a stone at him out of nowhere.

“Ow! What was that for, seriously and here I thought we were friends”

“We are friends, after all why would you give me a name…Starry nights huh? Really looked at the sky and then at me”

“Only named it due to your eyes look like stars ok”

“Oh really? Don’t you like staring at the night sky for hours? Do you like me that much to name me after something you really like”

That should have caught him off guard but it did and he could feel his face heat up from some form of embarrassment, the hair clone hated that the other was correct but it’s not his fault that their eyes looked like pretty stars.

“Hmmm…Shū? No that doesn’t fit you, what about Yánshí? Also no…hmmm what name would fit you”, the shadow was now trying to name the other clone but they couldn’t find a good name yet and the other was just looking at them while they were thinking.

The next few minutes were just filled with Xīngyè trying to think of a good name for the clone but nothing sounded good enough for him and that frustrated him slightly.

The hair clone couldn’t help just lightly chuckle at Xīngyè as they struggled to name them, it was entertaining to say the least but he has to admit he was curious what their name would be in the future.

“Táo…? No…wait! Táohuā! Yeah, that’s your name now! I’m naming you peach tree”

“That’s gonna ironic due to the fact I don’t like peaches as much as Wukong”

“I know but that’s what makes it a bit funny don’t you think”

Táohuā couldn’t help but laugh a bit at the other weird logic but they were correct about it being a bit funny, being named after something you don’t like is a bit funny.

Táohuā which simply meant peach tree while Xīngyè was starry nights, the sun and the moon were fighting each other while the stars and the tree bloomed a better friendship as time went on but both clones seemed to enjoy their names a lot since they gave them to each other.

——————————————————

Táohuā woke up to sunlight hitting his face and he wished he had stayed asleep since for some reason he had a massive headache, which meant it was actually a hangover from drinking alcohol in the wedding.

The hair clone rubbed their eyes gently before rolling into the side of the bed that Xīngyè slept in, there wasn’t any sunlight there due to the shadow being sensitive about bright lights even though they liked napping in the sun like a cat.

He couldn’t really remember anything about what happened during the after party besides the queens getting married and the twins stealing some food…some strangers were there besides their creators.

The fact that Macaque and Wukong were there actually made the both of them scared since Xīngyè and Táohuā weren’t sure if they would’ve disposed of them both but turns out they were both too busy to even notice them.

Now that he thought about it, Wukong had dragged him along to drink some alcohol and then his head went fuzzy but the rusted furred monkey hoped he didn’t do anything stupid at the wedding.

His train of thought was broken due to the sound of the door being gently opened and closed, Táohuā looked over at where the sound was and spotted his husband who was walking towards them.

“How did you sleep after drinking at the wedding?”

“I feel awful…and the sun hates me now…now I know why you hate it”

That’s caused Xīngyè to laugh a bit before sitting down onto the bed and starting to stroke the others hair gently, it was calming to Táohuā but it wasn’t really anything uncommon that the both of them did.

Both of them would groom each and sometimes playfully tug at the others fur when they were bored, it was a bit too calming and making him fall asleep again but thankfully the bakery and cafe were closed today and tomorrow.

Táohuā drifted off to sleep again as his partner kept gently playing with his hair, Xīngyè would leave in a bit to get some errands done but for now they were both going to enjoy the time they had together and that was more than alright with the two of them.

Notes:

Oh poor Táohuā having a hangover, at least he has his husband Xīngyè to comfort him and give him all the cuddles he desires

Notes:

Oop, they husbands. Wonder how macaque and Wukong will react to that in the future
