Chapter Text
Honestly, for how stupid the two of them apparently were, Kaeya was surprised that Albedo and himself had found a happy ending at all.
Everything was going really, really well. Kaeya couldn’t have asked for anything else - he had his brother back, and now he had Albedo with his outstanding wit (regarding anything non-emotion related), gold-spun hair and beautiful blue eyes. Until the entire Khaenri’ah thing becomes an issue, nothing else could possibly ruin this.
Until one day he stepped forwards to greet Albedo and the other just. Stared.
Albedo raised a blond eyebrow. “Who are you again?”
Kaeya lightly laughed. Was this some kind of prank? “Don’t you recognize me? I’m your boyfriend.”
Then, Albedo snorted. “I would never date you .”
Kaeya’s heart dropped.
“Wait, Albedo-”
But the other only walked away, leaving Kaeya standing in place with one arm outstretched. What was going on? Was Albedo reconsidering their relationship? Did he realize that Kaeya wasn’t up to his standards? Did he finally decide that he didn’t want a life with Kaeya after all?
In a daze, Kaeya found himself at Angel’s share again.
“Kaeya?” Diluc looked up from the bar. “It’s still morning. Is something wrong?”
“...I need a drink.”
Diluc’s expression instantly changed. “No.”
Kaeya whined. “Really? Nothing for your poor, poor brother?”
“What happened? If that chalk-stick of a man did anything-”
“No! It wasn’t him. Well, it kind of was, but-”
“I knew it.” Diluc vaulted over the bar, claymore in hand.
Kaeya yanked him back. “Wait, please don’t beat him up! He’s just realized that I was never good enough for him.”
“Did he say that to you?”
“... He asked me who I was. And then walked away”
Diluc nodded. “Ah. I understand.”
“Huh?”
“Did you ask ‘Albedo’ to clarify properly? Or did you just stand there like an idiot?”
“I’m not an idiot!”
The redhead deadpanned. “Kaeya, you are an idiot. A depressed idiot.”
Reaching over the bar, he slammed a tankard down on the bar table. Grape juice- but well, better than nothing. Then, he left. Kaeya really hoped that his brother had enough sense not to beat up his boyfriend (that is, if Albedo still considers him that anymore…).
Albedo was just so… perfect. People consider him one of the most attractive citizens of Mondstadt, but they were looking at the wrong knight. Why go for Kaeya when you could go for calm, collected and talented Albedo? He might seem cold at the surface, but once you see him interacting with Klee and the way he beamed at his little sister - well, anyone would fall for him.
Lost in his thoughts, Kaeya sighed, preparing to take another sip from his tankard.
That is until Diluc kicked open the door, Albedo standing behind him.
“Why are you two so incompetent ?” The redhead hissed. “This is the second time I’ve had to fix your misunderstandings.”
The Ragnivindr grabbed a fistful of Albedo’s coat and bodily dragged him to a stool. “There. Explain to Kaeya before he starts drinking again.”
Albedo swallowed. “Well, you see…”
Kaeya buried his head in his hands. “ Please tell me this isn’t you thinking my brother is my lover again.”
“No, it’s not that. In short, I have a brother too. A twin. He’s who you saw.”
Kaeya was very confused.
“What do you mean you have a twin? Weren’t you-” He leaned in and whispered as if there was anyone but the three of them in the bar. “-Rhinedoitter’s creation?”
The alchemist winced. “...she had quite a few prototypes.”
“And you didn’t think to tell me? ”
“It’s a recent development. Diluc and the Traveller helped me with it.”
Kaeya banged his head on the table. And he thought last time was bad enough - At this rate, Diluc’s going to have eternal blackmail over him.
…Why does this keep happening.
