Chapter Text
Wartime D-Ranks are just a bit different from peacetime ones. There's none of those mundane tasks that canon showed—a lot of those were filler, but there certainly had been some casual tasks—but in wartime, it's more... more real. When it comes to D ranks... the most normal ones are probably the ones for repair help, but that is generally shoved off on shinobi who are unfit to go into combat at the moment but still capable of helping with construction, for in this time every combatant is needed on the battlefield, for patrol, for security, for war related things. So the D ranks genin get are things like carting around weaponry, polishing weaponry, helping out at the hospital and even delivering stuff to outposts. Granted, the last one's not something given as a first mission, but Satoru's team has it because, well, Minato thinks they're good enough. Satoru is, well, Satoru, but the other two are good, too; Shiho is an Uchiha and well trained, and Anko is... crazy. And kind of dangerous. Besides, Minato is confident in his abilities to protect his "little gremlins".
It must be some kind of cosmic joke, that Satoru has the exact sensei Kakashi did. His students would love it. They'd bever stop teasing him.
Honestly, them and his friends are the only ones he even misses from his world. And Suguru, much as he doesn't want to admit it.
"We're going to Kumo?" Shiho sounds slightly horrified. "Seriosuly?"
Minato laughs. "It's the outskirts, Shiho. It should be safe enough. Besides, I'm the fastest."
Debatable. Satoru is pretty sure he's faster than Minato and to boot, more accurate, at least when it came to teleporting where he could see. He does need his markers for longer teleportation where he doesn’t have a clear line of sight... but that said he is fast even without teleporting. And as of now, he can only get to Konoha—he'd managed to make the entire village a marker for himself, so provided he can recall the coordinates of the location within the village, he can teleport there... at the cost of a headache. A severe one.
He's not going to mention it though, he doesn't want to spook Minato.
"Sensei, who's faster, you or Ru-chan?"
Anko, evidently, doesn't have any such qualms.
