Chapter Text

Angel’s head hurts. It always seems to. He always has a headache at some point. It gets really annoying but he’s also used to it at this point. He groans, moving to sit up before a hand gently pushes his shoulder back down. He opens his eyes and finds a pair of very familiar red ones.

“Alastor.” His voice sounds like spent eight years in the desert before giving a chainsaw a blowjob. It’s… bad.

“Here.” Alastor hands him a glass of water that Angel gratefully drank.

“What happened?” He asks, his voice sounding much better now that his throat no longer felt like sandpaper.

“You were kidnapped.”

“Kidnapped?!”

“Yes.”

At Alastor’s hesitation to elaborate, Angel narrows his eyes. “By who?”

“You don’t remember?” He asks, redirecting the conversation in a way that does not get past Angel.

“No, not really. I remember comin’ into Mimzy’s office and then… Vox.” He groans, using two of his hands to hide his face. “That fucking asshat, let me up imma go cut the fuckin’ power.”

Alastor laughs, pushing Angel back down as he tries to get up again. “He has been dealt with.”

“Dealt… didja kill ‘em?”

Alastor could tell that the ‘’em’ referred to both Valentino and Vox. “No. Neither of them. They are both unfortunately alive. I was more worried about you.”

Angel feels himself blush but decides to ignore it, a more pressing question on his mind. “So Val is alive? And he knows about us. And he knows where I am.”

“Yes.”

“I’m so dead,” Angel whines, pulling up the covers to hide under them.

“Well, yes. You are dead. Didn’t realize that was new information.”

Angel snakes a hand out of the covers to slap Alastor’s arm. “Stop bein’ a smartass. I’m sayin’ Val’s gonna kill me.”

“Now why would he do that?”

“You mean other than the fact that I escaped?” Angel’s eyes peek out from above the covers. “Well, I’m still here for one and he doesn’t want me here. And he’s already pissed at me. He’s probably even more pissed now that you stopped ‘im from killin’ me.”

“Stopped him from…” Angel watches Alastor take a deep breath, his claws creating gouges in the arms of the chair he’s sitting in. “Valentino won’t be a problem.”

“But you didn’t kill him.”

“True.” A paper appears out of nowhere, fluttering down in the air to rest on Angel’s lap. He abandons the covers to inspect it.

“Is this..?”

“Your contract. I told Valentino that I would allow him to live if he handed it over so, ta-da!” Alastor’s smile lessens to a softer, more human one. “Feel free to do whatever you want with it. Destroy it, keep it, sell it. Whatev-“ Alastor is cut off by Angel flinging himself at him, enveloping him in a hug.

“Thank you! Thank you so much, Al.” Angel sobs into his shoulder.

“Angel, you’re injured.” Alastor scolds, his voice soft.

“I don’t care.” He pulls back from the hug, teary-eyed and smiling wildly. “You have no idea how much this means ta me.”

Alastor cups Angel’s cheek, watching him lean into the touch. “Anything for you, mon ange.”

Angel starts leaning forward but jumps back when the front door flies open. “ANGEL!” It’s Mimzy, rushing in to see Angel. “Are you okay?!”

“I’m okay!” He laughs, hugging Mimzy.

“Thank Satan.”

Everything went back to normal fairly quickly. While Angel wasn’t exactly used to kidnapping, he’s used to traumatic events so he knows how to bottle it in and never talk about it again.

Look, he didn’t get to Hell with healthy coping mechanisms.

And soon enough he was ready to perform again. Except this time, he got to talk to the audience beforehand. He walked out on stage, taking a deep breath. He had really missed this in the few weeks it took him to recover.

“Heya girls, gays, and theys!” He laughed into the mic when the crowd cheered loudly. “I know you all missed me and Smiles,” He jerked his thumb over to Alastor waiting at the piano who gave a polite wave. “And I’m happy to say I have no plans of leavin’ ya anytime soon! And to add to that, we’ve decided to switch up our usual song and dance. We only have two songs this time, but everythin’ will be back to the normal four before ya know it. Al?”

Alastor nods and starts on the piano, his head moving slightly with the beat. Angel clears his throat and starts the song. “Loves more religion but he was my faith. Something so sacred so hard to replace. Falling for him was like falling from grace.” Angel couldn’t help it, he turned to look at Alastor after the last line only to find Alastor looking right back at him. He almost missed the cue for the next line when the Radio Demon winked at him.

No need to imagine, ‘cause I know it’s true. They say ‘all good boys go to heaven, but bad boys bring heaven to you.’” That line got a lot of cheers out of the audience, people shouting their agreement. Angel finished up the song, walking over to the piano before the second one started. “Care to dance?” Alastor asks quietly, motioning for his shadow to take over.

“With you? Always.” Angel takes Alastor’s hand and lets him sing the last song, his low voice reverberating through the room and Angel’s head. He could feel his voice in his skin and it felt like home.

My feet are aching. And your back is pretty tired. And we’ve drunk a couple bottles babe, and set our grief aside. The papers say it’s doomsday, the button has been pressed. We’re gonna nuke each other up boys, ’til old Satan stands impressed.” Alastor twirls Angel around the stage, his eyes never leaving Angel’s. “And here it is, our final night alive. As the earth burns to the ground oh girl, it’s you that I lie with.

Angel smiles at Alastor, keeping his hands locked around his waist and neck as he spins around the stage, lost in his own world. “As the atom bomb locks in. Oh girl, it’s you I watch TV with. As the world, as the world caves in.”

As Alastor continues the song, the audience watches the dance. They are all completely captivated by the energy between the two dancers on stage as well as Alastor’s voice. They all seem to be sucked into some kind of trance, their eyes not leaving the stage. The final few lines come as the music picks up and so does the dancing.

And here it is, our final night alive. And as the earth burns to the ground oh girl, it’s you that I lie with. Oh, it’s you I watch TV with, as the world, as the world caves- Oh, it’s you that I lie with. As the atom bomb locks in. Yes, it’s you I welcome death with. As the world, as the world caves in.” As he sings, Alastor dips Angel and brings their lips together, kissing him in front of the mesmerized audience. They break apart and Alastor softly sings the last few words. “As the world caves in.”

There’s a moment of silence that’s broken by thunderous applause echoing through the room. Angel smiles up at Alastor who smiles back down at Angel.

Angel is in Hell, but as long as he's here, it's Heaven.
