Chapter Text
Madoka never wanted to fight Homura. She loved her, after all; how could she not after learning about everything Homura had done for her? Part of her wanted to stay in the world Homura made for her, happy and alive with her friends and family, and maybe that was why she allowed the facade to go on for so long.
But Madoka had made her Wish for a reason and after her transformation she had realized how important the balance she created really was. The Law of Cycles promised both an ending and a reward to Magical Girls after the suffering they were forced to face.
The fight to free herself from Homura’s will hadn’t been easy and it lasted longer than she wanted it to - Madoka wasn’t sure if it was one she would’ve won if it weren’t for all of her Magical Girls standing by her side.
At its conclusion, Homura slumped to the ground, completely undamaged but seemingly broken, her violet eyes lifeless and her black wings hanging limply. “So it’s over…” she whispered. “Do you hate me now?”
Madoka kneeled in front of the tired girl, brushing her dark bangs out of her face. “Homura-chan, I could never hate you,” she promised. “I will always love you.”
Homura looked at Madoka, tears streaming down her cheeks. “But I stole your divinity from you - I ruined you.”
“Oh, Homura-chan. You didn’t ruin me. And I can’t blame you for being hurt and lashing out. After all, everything I do is for hurt Magical Girls.”
“I’m not just a hurt Magical Girl, Madoka!” Homura screamed. “I am your opposite! I am the Evil to your Good, the Despair to your Hope, the Avarice to your Charity! You are a God and I am the Devil who tried to rip you from the heavens!”
Madoka gently ran her hand over Homura’s face, stopping to cup her cheek. “You’re lonely , Homura. You’ve been so alone for so long and so hurt. When I got my Wish, I had the pleasure of always getting to be at your side but you couldn’t feel me there. I wanted you to find your peace but I saw what happened. I should’ve known you’d never be content with the promise you’d someday join me in the paradise I made for us all. You always just wanted to be right beside me, didn’t you?”
Homura’s lips trembled as she nodded. “Everything I’ve done has been to let you be happy,” she whispered. “I just want to see you get to be happy.”
Madoka pressed their foreheads together, her amber eyes meeting Homura’s. “Let’s be happy together, darling,” she said.
“What?” Homura breathed.
“You’re not my opposite, Homura-chan, you’re my other half. You’re not a Devil or a demon, you’re my equal. Join me in the Law of Cycles, in the universe, and be happy with me. We’ll never have to be separate again.”
“But - but…I stole your free will. I stole everyone’s free will. I’m just…a selfish child who can’t handle not getting what I want. How could you want me with you?”
Madoka twined their hands together. “Because I love you, Homura-chan. I have since I realized what you’ve done for me.”
“I’ve done so much evil,” Homura whimpered. “I don’t deserve your love.”
“It doesn’t matter what you deserve - you have my love and my forgiveness. Just say yes.”
Homura took a deep breath before allowing herself to fall into Madoka’s embrace. “Yes. Of course, yes.”
Their souls mingled as their breaths did. Clinging to each other as they faded into the fabric of reality.
